Yes, kind of. Gimme a bit and I'll upload another updated map! Then you'll see where exactly :)

@everyone

Worldbuiling thread is up... As far as I can think of! Feel free to hit me up with more ideas to add places, houses etc.

Should we post questions about the world here, and leave the worldbuilding thread for definitively-accurate information?

Likewise, should we post drafts of our own ideas here first for review, or straight into the worldbuilding thread?

Either way... what size is the landmass?  I've a good idea of the distances of the real-world equivalent, but Polemos would seem to be much larger!

Please post questions in the OOC or PM me. That goes with your second question too. The worldbuilding thread is only for the GM open to add details!

*cough cough* The map is actually Ireland *cough cough* Then you'll know the rough size...

Outcast

Yeah... I initially assumed that it was the same size as Ireland (where I've spent a fair bit of time over the years), but references to a continent and to the marked climate differences had me thinking otherwise!

The rough outline is like Ireland, the scale is just a bit bigger :)

Luke Tempest

Title(s): Captain of The Silver Sky and Commander of the Southern Storm Fleet
Age: 24
Political Position: Privateer / Warlock for House Fairwood
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Physical Appearance
Standing at around 5'10" (178 cm), he has an athletic and sinewy build along with long limbs and nimble fingers.  He doesn't look it, but he has the body of a trained and athletic warrior thanks to years of engaging in piracy.  He normally has an unkempt appearance, not really bothering with any fancy clothes or accessories.  He prefers to keep his attire practical and comfortable for the job at hand.

Personality
Normally an easy-going person with a carefree attitude and approach to things, he's a natural daydreamer and will usually be found with his head in the clouds or his nose in a book.  He sometimes has a tendency to be impatient and is the type to act before he thinks, which has gotten him into trouble more than once before.  He can be very earnest and approaches any task with some eagerness, even if the task itself may prove daunting.  He makes an effort to be friendly to other people and displays loyalty to those he's closest to.  With an adventurous spirit, he's willing to give (almost) anything a try.

Backstory
Originally from a farming family, Lucas Tempest was born and raised in a rural village just a couple hours travel north from Cheburn.  He had always had a sort of adventurous spirit and would regularly try to explore the areas just outside the village with his friends during his childhood.  As soon as he was old enough, he went with his father to the marketplace in Cheburn to sell the surplus of their crops.  He was always excited to visit the capital where he could see the Silver Stream, the Fairwood Castle, and all the people gathered at the marketplace.  A pontoon bridge had been set up across the Silver Stream to allow villagers to enter Cheburn and sell their surplus in the marketplace.  He once heard a traveling minstrel regale a large audience with tales of high sea adventures.  Ever since, every time he saw the Silver Stream, he would dream of going out to sea himself one day to go on adventures like the one the minstrels spoke of.

Tragedy struck when he was only nine years old (Year 782).  Bandits attacked and raided the small village he called home.  All of his family members were killed during the raid and the small modest house they lived in together was destroyed.  Luke went with the surviving villagers to Cheburn and were accepted into the city as refugees.  With no place left to call home, the newly orphaned child became a street urchin and lived out the rest of his childhood in the slums of the city.  While he was at his most vulnerable, a shady individual extended a hand out to him and he took it.  Over the next three years, under his new benefactor's tutelage, he became an expert pick-pocket and burglar.

As it turned out, Luke had a talent for thievery.  He picked up on the necessary skills to survive on the streets.  He could break into practically any place in the city and make off with tons of stolen goods.  He could lose himself in a crowd and come out with an extra coin pouch or two.  In order to hold onto his ill-gotten goods, he became as athletic as he could to make his getaways and throw a punch when cornered.  About an year after he started pick-pocketing (Year 783), his mentor tasked him with sneaking into Fairwood Castle and make off with some books.  The young thief was able to use what he learned to successfully sneak in with none the wiser.  If need be, he could disguise himself as a young servant boy.  While he was within the castle walls, he chanced upon a young noble girl around his own age.  He was able to distract her and convince her not to give him away by regaling her with the same stories he picked up from the local city taverns.  Since then, he's made regular 'visits' to the castle where he continued to exchange stories in exchange for ill-gotten goods.  When he ran out of stories to tell, he ended up making completely new stories of his own.

Around the time he was twelve (Year 785), his karma finally caught up to him.  The man who taught him how to steal had stolen from the wrong people one too many times.  A nobleman with ties to the former noble houses near the border had managed to track down Luke's mentor.  Luke had the unfortunate luck to have been there when it happened.  Luke's mentor was killed while Luke himself was kidnapped to be sold into slavery across the border.  After being brought across the border, Luke was sent to join an entire ship full of prisoners to be shipped off overseas and sold as slaves in foreign lands.  A few days into the trip and the transport ship was hit by pirates.

The Silver Sky pirates attempted to intimidate the slavers and smugglers into giving up their goods without a fight.  The slavers chose to fight... and were summarily defeated and executed shortly after.  The ship's loot was confiscated and the prisoners freed.  Any time the pirates were able to take over a ship whether through surrender or defeat, they made an open offer to anyone who weren't stupid enough to oppose them.  Those who did oppose them were either killed, tortured, and/or sold on the black market.  If you were lucky, it was only one of those three.  Luke took them up on that offer and was able to join as a cabin boy.

As it turned out, the Silver Sky pirates were made up of all sorts of people from several different places.  Northern Sphere.  Southern Sphere.  There were even some people from Valruthi.  It didn't matter.  As soon as you joined the crew, you were one of them.  The Captain himself was a former noble whose house fell when he was still a child.  There were even a couple of witches and warlocks who saw no reason to hide who they were among the crew.  Possibly due to their sturdy ship or possibly due to their sailing expertise, they were probably the only people crazy enough to sail around the Southern Seas in spite of the heavy storms.  Luke himself would inherit that craziness over his twelve years as a pirate.  One of the Witches, a sailing master noticed that Luke showed signs of immunity to mind manipulation, a sign of potential as a Warlock.  The sailing master took Luke under her wing as an apprentice and taught him many things including how to read and write, how to use sea charts, and how to navigate safely through the Southern Seas.

Shortly after Luke turned eighteen (Year 791), he had earned the position of Boatswain and had accumulated several years of fighting experience by joining the boarding party any time they hit a ship.  He decided to celebrate his promotion to Boatswain by spending his coin at a Valruthi brothel.  The pirates targeted merchant vessels, most of which traveled to and from the Northern Sphere.  They also regularly attacked coastal towns along the northern shores, raiding and pillaging for as much loot as their ships could carry.  Over the past six years, the Silver Sky pirates had grown into an entire fleet of ten ships strong, each ship consisting of around 50 to 100 pirates.  Each ship would have about one or two witches or warlocks.  They became known as the Southern Storm fleet, due to their ability to escape into the Southern Seas where none dared follow.  The only reason why they hadn't attacked any Southern Sphere ships or villages was because... there weren't any worth attacking.  Perhaps for this reason, the Fleet Commander of the Southern Storm Fleet was able to negotiate with House Fairwood.  Their first deal was with House Winterbourne, whose baron's daughter had been kidnapped by Valruthi pirates two years ago.  The Valruthi pirates had already traded away the baron's daughter to the house's northern neighbours, but the baron still wanted revenge and thought who better to deal with pirates than other pirates?

Around the time Luke turned twenty (Year 793), the Southern Storm Fleet officially became privateers commissioned by House Fairwood.  All ten ships of the fleet were allowed to safely dock in the Silver Stream and the pirates could spend their coin in Cheburn.  If any ship repairs needed to be done, they would be given assistance free of charge.  Any members of the fleet originally from the Northern Sphere were to be treated like any other citizen of the Southern Sphere.  The witches and warlocks, however, still had to hide their abilities while out in public.  In exchange, the privateers attacked key locations along the Northern Sphere's coastal regions and shared about 10% of their profits.  On the occasion they attacked particularly difficult, but very important strategic locations, they not only got to keep all 100% of the loot, but House Fairwood would give them a bonus in gold coins.  They were basically the unofficial navy of the Southern Sphere.  Shortly after becoming privateers, Luke had earned enough respect from his fellow pirates to be elected into the position of Quartermaster.

About two years ago (Year 795), the royal House of Fairwood officially reinstated the Fleet Commander of the Southern Storm his old noble title.  The Fleet Commander was able to retire and begin rebuilding his formerly fallen house.  With the Fleet Commander gone, a new Commander for the fleet and Captain of the Silver Sky was needed.  The former fleet commander and the sailing master witch both gave their support for Luke.  Luke himself had gained quite a large amount of support among the crew.  As a result, Luke was elected into the position and he became the new Captain of the Silver Sky.

Intentions
Luke's loyalties lie with his crew, first and foremost.
His second loyalties lie with the coin they can procure together.
His third loyalties lie with the Southern Sphere, who happens to have tons of coin at their disposal.
The primary purpose of becoming a privateer is to ensure that his crew has a place they can stay for extended periods of time, make necessary ship repairs, and spend their hard-earned loot.  Most of his former crew-mates had even retired in the Southern Sphere.
A secondary purpose of being a privateer is to protect the witches and warlocks within his crew.  He intends to use his newly forged connections to create a place for them in the Southern Sphere where they can live out in the open without fear of prejudice.  There are currently just less than twenty witches/warlocks in the entire fleet, but more are welcome to join.

Whoa, impressive! Nice job, Deathnote! It looks fine to me, but I have a few suggestions,

- There won't be many warlocks/witches in his crew. Their abilities are very rare and they are often hunted down.

- Speaking of witches, the Fairwoods won't be pleased to know that there are witches in the crew of the Silver Sky. While they are accepted on board for who they are, they would have to hide their powers in Cheburn. The royal family is absolutely frightened of witches/warlocks simply because of the stories that are being told in the north

- Otherwise: we need to talk about the relationship between Eleanore and Luke :D

You did a great job. After you made those few changes I mentioned above, you may post his character sheet in the approved thread :)

Deathnote

Okay, fixed.  There are less than 20 witches/warlocks in the entire fleet of ten ships (so about 1-2 per ship).  They also have to hide their abilities while out in public.  Luke still intends to try and make a place for them in the Southern Sphere by changing the minds of the royal family through improving relations with them.

Would the royal family not want any dealings whatsoever with the pirates if they knew for sure that there were witches and warlocks among them?  Would Luke absolutely have to hide the fact that he's a Warlock from the Fairwoods?  Maybe they've heard rumours instead?  I was thinking that the pirates have proven to be so useful at this point, that the Fairwoods would still be willing to deal with them in spite of their fears.

Also, I was thinking that Eleanore could've been that noble girl Luke told stories to back when he was a street urchin :p.  If you don't think that's a good idea, we can just say it's some other noble girl living in the castle or edit that part out altogether.

Nice! You may post him the approved characters thread now :)

As for the dealings, the Fairwoods, espeically Eleanore would not necessarily mind. But as always, the nobility (including Olwyn) would be absolutely outraged upon dealing with witches and warlocks.

As for their relationship, let me PM you to discuss details ;)

Deathnote

So... it'd be fine if the Fairwoods knew about the witches and warlocks, but for the nobility, maybe they've only heard rumours?  Maybe only a select few among the nobility are privy to this?  Luke himself would neither confirm or deny it and would rather dodge the question, mostly by saying that he's grateful for the rumours as it makes intimidating the enemies that much easier.

FlowerMagnolia

Yes, I'd definitely keep it as rumours. They would not want the nobility to stop hiring them, I guess. But the ones who do know will try to minimise the contact time with witches/warlocks significantly

Olwyn's always absolutely reasonable!  Especially so when it comes to the matter of how to treat mind-warping magicians!  ;)

If she could be persuaded that a given warlock had been a long-term and true friend to Eleanore - with no hint of thought-twisting magic involved - she might be able to overcome her prejudices.  At least in that one case.  And I could see that potentially being managed with regard to Luke.  But Olwyn's default presumption will be that people who say they trust a known warlock are either fools or victims of magical manipulation.

Exploiting rumours of magical powers to instill fear, she will find distasteful... but understandable for a freebooter.  And if it works to save lives overall, then it could even receive grudging approval (better to lie and scare people into surrendering than choose to slaughter them, after all).  Still, she would be very much on the watch for signs of actual magicians trying to hide behind the rumours.  Can't trust those shifty... muttermuttermuttermutter...  ;)

Delaria Wilder

Title(s): Lady/Mistress Age: 26
Political Position: Witch
Sexuality: Bisexual

Physical Appearance
Delaria would never be mistaken for a fighter. A woman of the woods, she isn’t fat or misshapen. However she does seem soft. The biggest weapon she carries would be a dagger...after all, everyone needs a little protection. For the most part though she is unarmed, aside from a pouch that she usually carries filled with different salves and elixers.

Personality
Though she is, for the most part, more of a loner, Delaria still is a personable woman. She returns kindness with kindness, but is quick to return anger and fear with a likeness. It isn’t far off that she would simply approach a person just because they look like someone worth getting to know.

Backstory
Born to a witch mother and a sea-faring father just outside of Osia, Delaria was always destined to be adventurous. Even with her father gone for months on end, Delaria’s mother made sure that she knew of every known plant, herb, and bit of foliage on Polemos. It was because of her mother she learned to hunt, and to take care of herself in the wilderness.

At the age of ten, Delaria’s father took her to sea for a whole year. It was a year that was filled with wonder and horror both, as the young girl learned about winds and tide, witnessed torrential hurricanes and flat calmness. The time on the ocean made Delaria wary of the waves, though she would have no issue returning if called upon.

Still, when she got home she continued to work with her mother, learning the Craft that had been passed on for generations. THe one problem was that Delaria had no desire to stay in their little hovel for the rest of her life. She craved more, and at 17 Delaria left home and headed for the capital.

She started out simple...selling herbs and helping with healing. It was rather amazing to her that the people inside a city didn’t know things like how to splint broken bones or stitch up wounds. Showing proficiency at a younger age, Delaria was able to make a name for herself.

While never wanting to be a noble, Delaria has proven to be a worthwhile ally, and has taken care of some of the most sick and wounded people in Latium. She is known well, and has taken care to save up the money she has made. Money can buy influence...and though she doesn’t care to be famous, being influential is never a bad thing.

Intentions
War is never an answer. However, Delaria will stay loyal to the Vaselle Family so long as they don’t bring pain to common folk. As far as the South...she knows little about them, and cares little for the conflict.

Possible connections/scenes
TBD

Hi, welcome to the game!

I love the idea of a healer in the north, but I am afraid that you would have difficulties including her in the game. Since she would stay out of any conflict, she would also not be part of any. My suggestion is to keep the aspect of a witch/healer and include her in Caer Argentus, so that she is in contact with the royal family. Maybe she works as a maid there and can also help wounded souldiers as well?

My suggestion is to keep the aspect of a witch/healer and include her in Caer Argentus, so that she is in contact with the royal family. Maybe she works as a maid there and can also help wounded souldiers as well?

Thanks for the input!

What if she were more like THE healer at Caer Argentus? Possibly something akin to the Grand Maester of the Red Keep in GoT? Just spitballing an idea.

That would be a possibility! Another idea is that she is part of a small healer-cult? Nothing too big yet, but maybe that is why she is so good at what she's doing?
