[SCI FI] [M/M] Owner Wanted for Housecat

SETTING/PREMISE: The Earth is overpopulated; resources are running out. A certain quota every year are allowed to be humans—to live as full citizens of the Earth and own property. The excess are captured, sterilized, and experimented on, culled in times of drought or lack of plenty. They're then resold as slaves. The most common experiments include gene splicing projects, mixing humans with animals. Common animals like dogs and cats are especially easy, because of the wide pool of genetics to choose from. The rarer an animal is, the more likely the resulting splice is to fail and kill the spliced person, so the successful splices of endangered and extinct animals are the most important.

MY CHARACTER: Gareth is a domestic cat splice who lived a comfortable life until his previous owner's daughter fell in love with him, and the family's father sold him to keep her from doing anything crazy, like trying to free him. His new master, YC, is a lot less kind to a spoiled housecat.

NOTE ON AMOUNT OF ANIMAL: Vision in my head is more human with animal ears and tails than a full-on anthro.

The handler pulled Gareth up to the stoop and Gareth's tail lashed behind him, stiff and prickled with irritation. His ears were pinned to his head.

He was a beautiful young tomcat, a British Shorthair with uncommon calico markings. His ears were a mixture of tan and grey spots, as was his tail.

His physical beauty and pedigreed breeding meant he'd been a beloved housecat for years, serving in one house since he was a kitten.

But his young mistress had fallen in love with him, and Gareth's master decided to sell Gareth from his home and family to keep his daughter safe when her plan to run away with him to a free colony was discovered.

Here he was, being sold for the first time since he was just a little boy.

He waited on the stoop with the handler. It was a grey and blustery day, which suited Gareth's mood perfectly. But it was cold out here with the cutting wind, and he hoped his master came soon.
