I'm with Dragongoddess on this one. It's hard to imagine what Dark Matter would have been like without Five there to make sure the others didn't become heartless monsters. I think she's the reason they were so different after they lost their memories.

If he wasn't taken out so quickly, he might have grown into an amazing character. As the seasons progressed, all of the main characters grew a lot. I thought Three was super-cheesy until the third season (har) where he grew on me and I just started to love him! That time loop episode was the best!

He wasn't supposed to.  That was Five's job and was shown by her relationships with the other crew.  She actually makes me want someone young and mostly innocent on the crew that the others may want to watch out for.  And I think they had to take him out.  His character wasn't working out alongside the others and had already played the part he was meant to.

I was biased against Three because I just happened to come off a binge of Firefly and Serenity when I started watching Dark Matter on Netflix. It too a long time for me to see him as more than a carbon copy of Jayne Cobb. Also wasn't a fan of that character for a long time. I did like Bubba, though. Bubba's great. However, his relationship with Five and alternate uni relationship with Two sold me on him. And the French. I never wanted that to end.

I have mixed feeling about Ryo, but dat smile tho. Also: I definitely understood why he did the things he did.

I think One was just meant to be their Piper (Orange is the New Black). The goofy fish-out-of-water character that makes it easier to introduce everyone else.

History: Born on the small planet of Uripedes, Astrid was abandoned at birth, left alone in an alley with only a ancient bomber jacket she knows nothing of her parents and after a few years believing they would come back she became disillusioned and resentful. She keeps the jacket as a reminder of her hardest years. For the first five years of her life she was looked after kindly by the slummers of Uripedes, never really living with one person but spending her nights with different people. Not everyone would let her stay for free and her body was used sometimes violently.

At five she took her life into her own hands taking the skills she had learnt from the others who lived in the shadows. She slowly worked her way up starting with just taking what she needed, when she found shacks abandoned Astrid took them over. At 12 the woman started tinkering with radios and wires, it seemed she had a bit of a talent for making things and by the time she was 15 her name was known over most of her home planet. At 18 things turned a bit dicey when some shit bag tried to take Astrid's body, Astrid no longer allowed people to have there way with her and in the fight killed the guy. Unfortunately he had a high Social standing and the raven haired women ended up in prison for five years.

It was in those years that she learn about making explosives and knife skills. When she got out at 23, she tried to go to the only home she had know only to find the slums destroyed. Astrid sought revenge for those she cared about and killed many senators it was after this incident that Astrid felt the need to vanish from her planet and she snuck aboard the Raza and managed to hide successfully on board.

Base Personality: Gutter mouth - Says it how it is and that's it.

Personality: Astrid has always been on her own and had no one to rely on but herself as such she has an acid mouth. She never thinks about what's she's saying simply said it. She has never apologies for her way of talking and this doesn't agree with many people. It also means she is totally truthful. Astrid has never told a lie and the friends she has actually managed to make. Well Astrid would kill for them literally! Incredibly smart and a bit of a tough chick she takes no crap from no body and there is no where to hide if you damage her equipment.

The space bike. Astrid has always kept the best material she could get her hands on for herself and over the years has managed to build a bike like space ship for herself. The main body is shaped like a motorbike but instead of wheels the bike has boosters, there are also four small boosters two either side of the wheels. If Saturday ever feels like taking a joy ride, she will take the bike out into space and simply cruse around. The engine runs on the same fuel as the ship itself but as the tank is only small she cant go far.

The bike is simple enough to use, turning the engine on fires the boosters turning the handle bars directs the ground set of boosters in the direction she wants to go while the back proppell her along, and just like a motorbike she can rev the engine for a short fast burst of speed. She hasn't yet worked out how to enter the distance on this and is continuously tinkering with her bike.

History: Born of upper-middle-class parents from Zairon with connections to the royal family, Maite's life with her three siblings was relatively pleasant, and as the youngest of the Kamau family, she was very much treated with deep warmth and care. This early love that she was shown would form the core of Maite's personality despite the pain that eventually followed her earliest years. Primarily, her studies were music and dance, and traditional painting. When her father's trading business from sales of the spice melange failed, her family was effectively beggared. Rather than be forced into poverty, they sold their youngest daughter and most beautiful child, Maite, into the trade as a highly skilled Courtesan and made enough credits to salvage their trading business as well as rescue their savings entirely. She was only ten at the time but even at that age, her delicate form and movement were deemed well worth the purchase in millions of credits and spent the next six years learning further painting, dance, music, weapons training, singing, massage, psychology, therapeutic listening. The Courtesan house that owned her held a blind auction for her first night at age seventeen following a full year of detailed sensual tutelage.

It was less than to be desired, that first sensual interlude, Maite found, unfortunately, while her consistent purchaser following that very lacklustre evening was a man very much into using knives during sex. She begged the madam to find her another; the response was for the gentleman in question to purchase Maite for triple the going rate, and when the guards arrived from the sound of her gentle, terribly delicate weeping because she did not wish to disturb anyone at such a late hour, she lay covered in dried blood. While a Doctor and a pair of nurses were paid for to tend the wounds, they were unable to remove the scarring, which in the native, complex written language of Zairon read: 'This body belongs to me'. The man in question was arrested and charged with defacing the property of a known, highly expensive Courtesan House, but not, oddly, for the emotional and physical abuse that came with it.

Gentle Maite, typically called Honey for her warmth and sense of forgiveness was devastated again at this news, but relieved at least that the man was jailed for his crime. Truly, she had not wanted him to be jailed, believing there were better ways to handle the cruelty against her person but accepted that the law simply was what it was. Yet, another client was shortly after to take advantage of her sweetness, going well beyond the woman's safe word and leaving her unconscious. One of the guards that had grown close to Maite decided to assist in smuggling her off of Zairon for a better life. It took the creation of a false identification, a marriage, and helping smuggle a considerable amount of spice. Once off-planet and a considerable distance away she amicably divorced the man that had helped her hide on his transport for six months. Afterward, Maite wandered various space stations, performing odd jobs here and there to survive, but nothing violent, scary, or truly evil. It was the woman's cleverness and ability to get wealthy people to say yes to things they ought not to without much effort that garnered her attention from the crew of the Raza. Used for a quick job to gain the team a considerable amount of credits, Maite ached to have a home where she could be safe.

Though violent criminals and she understood this, she bravely managed to sneak on board the Raza, heart pounding in fear at being discovered. She had just been found when an incident occurred while they had been trying to decide what to do with her, which ultimately caused the crew to lose their memories. Maite considers the Raza like family, and could never see herself anywhere else, despite the rough, even dangerous truth of the members' past. She's even once taken a bullet intended for one of the crew members, to their dismay; thankfully it was not fatal, despite the frightening loss of blood. (Not Yet Chosen!!)

Base Personality: Seeking, Soothing; if anything, this one is seeking - as in often wanting to serve others and know what they need, whether it means breakfast, to be listened to, given a touch massage. She really likes to help, even when it is far too dangerous for her to be doing so.

Personality: Tender, Honest, Loyal, Seeking, Soothing, Self-Aware, Intuitive, Giving; if it is possible to be the precise opposite of the kind of people on the Raza ship, then Maite is exactly that young woman. She's soft and gentle, extremely loyal and honest, and would defend the people she's chosen at the drop of a hat regardless of whether they are seen to be wrong or not, this does not seem to matter, for they are her people. She loves easily and is one to give without being asked. Maite is naturally pansexual as well as polyamorous; she cannot see herself refusing anyone for the sake of love and tenderness, which has often lead people to try and take advantage of her warmth and skill. While she has typically stopped acting as a Courtesan, she occasionally used said skills to distract the sorts of people the crew of the Raza wanted to steal from, given her ability to mingle with those of wealth and high birth.

Maite loves hugs and will give them even if it seems like a bad idea, but of course, she always asks permission first, not that anyone can refuse the gentleness of her soft soprano voice or her large blue eyes. She thinks everything among the crew can just be fixed with a nice, long hug and a back rub. She's very skilled with lock picking and is extremely flexible and acrobatic. Maite always smells good, her preferences being the most subtle sandalwood, cinnamon, vanilla, and lavender. While the young lady could have fallen into a considerable vanity, she is much too humble to truly be more than carefully and gently fastidious.

History:
Dridul was born into war, his early years are what is determined to have caused his break, the enemy killed his parents and tortured him before burying him alive, from the day he dug out of the mass grave. He studied how to destroy, first as a weapons engineer designing rail and proton weapons to the military vessels, then transferring to the medical weapons program, where his ideas where struck down as inhumane or too radical. He learned the materials before transferring back to fleet weapons programming.

Many years later Dridul smiled as he watched the drecorian atmosphere ignite, the battle cruisers captains face twisted in horror, but the damage was done. What was supposed to be a surgical strike against the enemy's military support structure. But what he didnt know was Driduls work had included a biological engineered hydrogen breaking protien, that once it entered the planets atmosphere had begun breaking down the oxygen and hydrogen of the water, so that when the warhead detonated it ignited the planets ionosphere.

Hey there, Szandor!  So Gannameade and I talked.  Although we are currently at our maximum number of players, we have decided to make an exception for you.  However, we do already have the Android position filled so you would have to play a different character.  Since this is an exception role, we'll let you decide what kind of character you would like to make as long as you can get it to us by next Wednesday (preferably earlier if you can manage it).  If you have any questions, please let us know.  We also have a discord open if you are interested in socializing with the rest of the group.  If not, don't fret.  We will be putting up an OOC thread that will update with any important information you may need to know.  We are hoping to start this game a week from Wednesday so if you won't be ready in either of those time frames, please let us know.

If you have any preference for what type of character or personality you'd like me to play then let me know! I can play almost anything, however I have a strong preference for playing Males so that's really my only pre-requisite. If I can't have an Android character, may I possibly have a character that hasn't spent a lot of time in close quarters with people? I want to improve my writing with that type of character (poor social skills, sort of robotic and 'Spock-like' in a way). If that's not possible that's fine though! Just a sneaky suggestion
