It got all quiet in here again! I think I'll change the thread title away from interest check.

5 is a good number although 6 would make it even I suppose. You might want to think about getting an opening up, that could attract more writers. (No pressure to start though simply a suggestion  ::) )

Good point, I'll start up the IC thread. So within an hour or so, we'll have the game ready to rock! Oh, I need to knock together my own character sheet, don't I? LOL.

Name: Paul Fairfield (Faceclaim Kevin James)/Chase Oliver (Faceclaim TJ Miller)

Age: 45/35

Sex and Orientation: Straight Male/Same

Personality: Somewhat fatherly, hardworking if not stressed out for all the effort, likes to encourage others even if lacking in confidence himself

Expedition Party Occupation Cartographer/Navigator and Equipment Mule

History: Paul is a high school teacher, beloved by his students for his sense of humor and dedication and compassion. He knows he's getting older and out of touch with his younger students and wants to try to relate to them better so, in spite of having little free time, decided to try out those video games they're so obsessed with, even though he knows nothing about them and probably wouldn't be able to relate anyway. Instead of the free demo he tried on his laptop, he found himself falling through the sky into a lush jungle, only about 100 pounds lighter and extremely scruffy. After patting himself down wondering what the hell happened, and hitting the area over his heart, his character profile popped up detailing his avatar's backstory. Chase Oliver is a world-renowned explorer who charted previously unknown areas of the open ocean and arctic tundra, up to the highest mountains in Asia, and now wanted a different kind of challenge, exploring the mysterious jungles of Jumanji. With his keen perception and instincts, he is always able to come out safely despite his low stamina and health. His looks also usually preclude any romantic entanglement, thus keeping himself and his comrades from getting distracted from their objectives.

Avatar Strengths:
-Enhanced perception; seeing and hearing things the others don't or can't, usually involving clues as to their next mission or destination, or translate runes and symbols that others are unfamiliar with.
-Undesirable; his lack of attractiveness doesn't just keep his comrades from acknowledging him in that way, it also leads to any kind of hostile entities ignoring him in favor of his comrades and will only attack him if all of the others are already being actively attacked or stalked, or if he's separated from the rest of the group.
-Sketch artistry; he can sketch any living or inanimate object with unparalleled detail, in addition to detailed maps that only he can read and interpret, and also forge things like signatures or other such notes in an almost Doctor Who's psychic paper kind of way when interacting with strangers.

Avatar Weaknesses:
-Equipment Handicap; being the mule, he's the one who has to lug everything around with a heavy backpack on, slowing him down and giving him real back pain after a while. Him being the only one with a Bag of Holding type object containing all the group's excess weapons, supplies and ammo makes him a liability.
-Extreme clumsiness; frequently in danger of tripping over things, even his own feet, if not constantly watching out for it, and even then it's not always effective. Might inadvertently create noise that attracts predators or trigger a trap the group is trying to avoid. Basically he's almost a bad luck charm half the time.

I just rented Jumanji tonight.  Yep, it was pretty good. Actually 5 sounds pretty good just like the movie.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Was there a post-credits scene that shows the game is still around or did they destroy it for good? There's no way they could have left it with no hint of a sequel, with or without the amount of money it made.

I didn't see one. But I would like to throw my hat in the ring as well.

Name: Jennifer "Jenn" Walter / Dr. Foxxy Catlove
Age: 17/23
Sex and Orientation: straight/bi-curious
Personality: Jenn is a little shy and reserved, only coming out of her shell when she is LARPing. She is a history geek, a walking Wikipedia when it comes to history as well as Fantasy literature, which she loves as well. She usually dresses very conservatively, only showing more skin in a LARP, where she made most of her friends. People in school consider her a loner, but that is mostly because they don't understand her. She also does tabletop roleplaying, but LARP is her big love.
Expedition Party Occupation Botanist extraordinaire
History: IRL: Jenn is a good student, but mostly keeps below the radar. Some other students don't even know she exists even though they share a class. She enjoys school, but she really blooms when she is LARPing or otherwise roleplaying. One day an add popped up on her phone, praising the new RPG called Jumanji. She clicked and picked the Biologist as her character, then the world disappeared.
Avatar: Foxxy is a Japanese American and a child prodigy when it comes to sciences, especially botany. She also is an accomplished martial artist. She finished High School early, blew through College in a year and went to university where she got a doctorate in Botany before she even turned 22. Now she is an adventurer, joining expeditions who need an expert in Botany. She loves finding out new things and is willing to take risks to get there.
Avatar Strengths: Botany: Rather obvious, but she is really good at botany.
Immunity to Poisons: No naturally occurring poison or venom can hurt her, it will simply have no effect. She could eat the most poisonous fruits and nothing happens. Poisons actually taste good to her.
Martial Artist: She has extensive training in Karate and Capoeira, which can come as quite the surprise considering her looks.
Pierce & Tats: A year back, Dr. Catlove was blessed by a witch doctor in the Jamaican jungle after providing essential help to his village. She now has three piercings and four small tattoos, which act as a deterrent for damage caused by gunfire. When she gets hit, she suffers the effects normally, but instead of dying, she falls unconscious and her wounds heal in minutes, bringing her back.
Avatar Weaknesses:
Bullet Magnet: When someone shoots at her with a gun, they will almost always hit her, and most likely fatally. This is the case for firearms only.
Strength: She really isn't strong. Good thing there is an equipment mule.
Embarrassing Outfit Update: When she heals after Pierce & Tats had kicked in, blood stained pieces of clothing simply disappear when she regains her senses. Sometimes she gets a completely fresh set of clothing, chosen randomly by the game, but this very often leaves her topless. As a minimum, her clothing would reset to bikini bottoms only, but it can be anything else in addition to that.

Could I try zoologist/the interpreter with the option magic ability to talk to animals.
HEITUS UNTIL THANKSGIVING!

I’m open to trading out animal talking powers for something else, so one of the newcomers can be more unique in their power set. More jungle animal variety!  Jumanji!!!

I didn't see that >.<
I was trying hard to find something no one was really doing to round out the team

Yah no worries.  I was thinking about something like animal acrobatics or something.  Mathin did mention that animal powers doesn’t mean immunity to animals cause that would be OP since most of the adversary are animals. Just think how much less fun the movie would be without the Rhino, Snakes, or Hippos

Man I keep coming back to this one! I just recently saw it myself and.... I can't seem to stay away from the idea.

You guys still looking?

Mathim

Hell yes, we're still looking! Anyone interested in being a big game hunter just looking for some action, with an arsenal that breaks my character's back carrying and expertise in all kinds of firearms and explosives? Or a pilot/engineer who can craft crude vehicles out of whatever's lying around and drive/steer/etc. any kind of land, water or air vehicle? Or something more original and creative? And it looks like some of the current players are willing to trade and mix and match, so all the better! If you've got an idea, please submit a profile, or if you have questions, we're all ears!

I could see doing either one of those actually! I'll try and figure out character that isn't to much like the rock but still contains that theme of "Nerdy guy trapped in a action stars handsome body" type of thing!

Mathim

Might someone consider a witch doctor/shaman type of character?

Oh, I should mention, I forgot to say that the characters will be able to see each other's reflections as their actual selves, but not their own; that way when they see their own reflection in the water, they see what they look like as their own avatar, but since everyone else looks like their avatars to them, only their reflections will let the other players see what they look like in real life. Just for some awkwardness in case anyone was very attracted to someone else but might not be if they see what they look like outside the game.

Maybe a guy who can call on the strength of animals?

I can either do witch doctor or zoologist with the ability to talk to birds and small mammals?
HEITUS UNTIL THANKSGIVING!

Norsegod1839

I can either go the route of the nerd stuck in action hero bod

Or my brain is cooking this idea for a guy the complete opposite of spiritual being put in a spiritual role.

Mathim

I'm just throwing out ideas, the choices are up to you guys. Maybe someone can also be a were-animal or something, who changes at night like Fiona from Shrek? Or someone who is slowly changing into something else after getting bitten by some kind of creature with some cursed venom or something?

Norsegod1839

I should also ask!

I know we are getting sucked in the game like in the movie so is there a mission we are going to partake in to get out? Is some one going to be doing the scenarios and what not? Time is technically wibbly wobbly when it comes to Jumangi so there is no real rush to get our guys back. It could maybe even be funny if one of us plays someone who comes from the future?

IE like in both original and new Jumanji there is a guy trapped there for a while and then the main cast come... maybe reverse it? The main cast comes then one of us lands in Jumanji and we're from the future?

Mathim

I don't know about anyone from the future relative to our time, but if you want to play someone from the 80's or something (when video games were first made to be commercially available to homes in a big way), that's fine. It would actually be interesting to hear some vernacular from decades past.

Norsegod1839

Up to you! I kind of really like the future idea! I won't do it if you aren't' comfortable but it could be really fun to reverse what happened in the first movie (IE someone getting stuck from the past and the future main characters helping him get back to the past) and doing instead the main characters thinking they have only been there for a few days or a month and then finding out nah its been twenty years.

That is however something that every one would have to go through so I don't want to force it on any one. So maybe I will go ahead and do some one from the eighties and make them the person displaced from time.

Mathim

I'm just not sure how meaningful it would be to have someone from a future we can't see, is all. For all we know, interactive gaming might have evolved to this kind of level in the era they come from and they might not even realize it's magic.

Looks good, just need a little backstory, and I wouldn't consider eating a lot to be a strength or weakness, more like a personality quirk. I like the comedic 'funny bone' as her Achilles heel.
