The beast was sleeping. His vermicular mass heavily resting on a tall pile of gimcracks and bibelots. The indurate scales reflecting the dim light, shifting in golden and silver tones with each exhalation. His slumbering song causing the walls of his microcosm to tremble lightly. The usually splenetic and loquacious creature was now calm, content in his nest after depredating the neighboring lands.

Bereft, I seek to pacify
The anger from a simple lie
So hard it is to debunk
I fear my reputation’s sunk

No longer can I hide
Beneath my slimsy pride
My mufti is ripped from me
I am exposed for all to see

As fungible as I have been
The hell of life makes me scream
So, I leave it, incomplete
Admitting finally to defeat

"Well," Christian said with a shrug, "there's nothing to be done about it now."

He glanced about what remained of their camp. He and his men had been sent deep into the hinterlands of Olthyr, so far from even the weald-based civilization of the Elven Courts, to debunk tales of lost feral children and walking trees that claimed governance over specific regions only to discover not only were the stories true, but the  ones about tax-evading bandits and scofflaws were likewise true.

Now, his band was bereft of their symbols of authority and status within the service of the King of Pleneth, luckily, however, their actual uniforms were rather fungible and bit by bit they had managed to gather enough pieces of fabric and actual items of clothing to redress themselves. It was all mufti, but better than returning to the capital in their shifts and long johns.

"Let's see if the luck we had with the clothes will extend to the horses. Trackers, head out!"

Progress had been made though. Right? Doubt nagged at the back of her mind but she refused to become its victim. There was no need to make any rash decisions, possibly ruining all of their progress. They had been married less than a day and known each other for shorter than a week. The fact that they were not still bickering was an accomplish.

Look now into the eye of a musket drawn
Steady gaze as the fire burns blood
unto the soul
unto the heart
Leaving a tempetuous scar

So long has been the darkness
Lost in a weald of emotions
rash decisions
behemoth errors
Now past redemption

She can but inchmeal forward
Desperately grasping for hope of reaching
a new time
a Risorigmento
To pacify love's ache

Rash decisions were not known to deliver the desired results.

And in the exceptionally rare case the result was marginally satisfying - its effects never lasted for a very long time. Everything was fleeting, shallow and meaningless. There was always someone to blame, of course and there was always more to inflict.

Was it even possible to measure ones worth based on decisions made in the past? And, more important, would it even make a difference? It would not bring anyone back, it would not undo the damage done, the pain and the blood left behind. All the tears cried in vain from the bereaved. So. Much. Suffering. It must be horrifying, to feel so much. To regret so much. Such a burden.

Well-meaning words would fall on deaf ears. One almost might be tempted to assume that they rather wallowed in their misery than be pacified. So enticing, was it not? And so very, very confusing. Heinous, wretched little things.

'Come on. Give me some more. Just.. do not break. I am not done.'

You're an other-ist.
Whatever separates me from you
Whatever proves that we are too
Differing in our views
Shows we can't coexist

You're an other-ist
Circuitous some might say
But we're too much night and day
To embark on a common way
You won't offhandedly resist

You're an other-ists
Let's agree to disagree
And stop find ways to be
In each other's company
So says me, the nativist

Her:  It's late.  We should say goodnight.
Him:  But, I'm not ready to let you go.
Her:  Will you be ready in an hour?
Him:  No, I think not an hour.
Her:  An hour after that?
Him:  No, I crave much more time.
Her:  Tell me then, what would pacify this desire you have?
Him:  I'll be sated at the end of ever.
Her:  And after that?
Him:  Then you can sleep. I'm a reasonable man.

It was obvious by the circuitous way the money changer was taking in leading the party to the local lapidary that no one ever accused him of making rash decisions in their choice of what direction to take through the alleys and back roads of the city. Finally, the ole gaffer turned to the group and gestured to an ornately decorated wood-and-iron door at the end of one of the alleys. “Well, here we go, then,” he said, “That was certainly a longer walk than I remember it being, but I did get us here, eh?” He flashed a rather orgulous smile. “Good exercise and I can say I truly earned my commission, wouldn’t ya say?” he added with a smirk and light laugh.

A tristful shadow crossed the lands
Volplaning silently through the sky
The once emissary of death and wrath
Harbinger of terror and fire
Now lacking all his élan
Disappeared into the bastion of the clouds

Be not nonchalant of what you’ve got
Or satisfied just to accept your lot
Value the moments that are given to you
For too soon, I’m afraid, they become too few

Be not too orgulous to ask for aid
Or allow good friendships to fade
You never know when you might need
The milk of kindness, from which to feed

Be not circuitous in the way you act
Or place too much thought in dubious fact
Make up your own mind for yourself
Then go out and share the wealth

Be not pugnacious to your fellow man
Or seek to hurt them in any way you can
Make peace your mission upon this land
You can do it, it is within your hand.
