-grins.-  I found another image that I think would work really well for her, and gives me some pretty unconventional elf ideas.  And I'm good at playing bitches!

Edit:  Green, do you think a Wizard of a Necromantic school would be viable, or would the societal backlash make it impossible to play?

Playing with the dead? Damn goths....

Seriously, those would be things to keep quiet. Luckily, there are no restricted schools anymore, so hiding it is easier. Also, check PMs.
When you bang your head against the wall, you don't get the answer, you get a headache.

Yeah, she'd be smart enough not to go announcing that in town around the frightfully backward common folk.  -grins.-  But, I just want to be sure it would be viable in a party.  I know she's not going to be involved in any hair-braiding or gossip about boys, but it would be nice if the other party members didn't try to burn her at the stake or exorcise her in the name of the One.

Also...can she have a penis?

Gifted powers by a saint, you say? BLASPHEMY!!!!

Or something. Anyway, check out the world building thread linked upthread. There's stuff there about orders as well as an example of one. It's deliberately open so players help expand the world.

Since you brought it up, and it will be expanded in the worldbuilding, 30 years ago was the Battle of Two Fords where men and dwarves and the local elves fought against an orc horde. The empire didn't help, and really couldn't, being weeks away, even trudging overland from Ka'ap Ital, and this "neglect of feudal responsibility" was all the excuse the colonial powers needed to justify finally shirking their taxes, er, rebelling against unjust tyranny. Fast forward around 2 years of open war and completing the decade with skirmishes before Rehl'me was recognized as a thing.

Paladins are, why not Rangers who use divine magic so it comes from some powers and the wilderness is full of deadly things that need dealing with, would the One allow that be left to godless elves and other creatures to be humans protectors?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Mainstream Church dogma holds that saints don't have the ability to grant these powers, powers come from The One. Saints may act as intermediaries with The One, but The One is the source of divine power.* Of course, whichever source your character's particular brand of theology teaches, he or she still has the powers, conformance with mainstream dogma or no.

*This is why I love talking through character concepts, they show me where to focus the worldbuilding. Riffing off this idea, why is it blasphemous that any besides The One grant power to mortals. Yes, there are the other faiths, but there's also The Enemy. The One wouldn't answer the prayers of The Enemy's disciples. That's crazy talk. So The Enemy must do it. But how, only The One has that power? The Enemy stole it, stole it from The One. That bastard! Seeking to set oneself up as a god, stealing from The One True God! BLASPHEMY!!!!

Thanks for the cue, RubySlippers.

Its still Divine Magic, she can claim direct imbuing by the One with the tools some of the Enemy use to counter them, just from the One instead of elemental demons and powers of questionable nature with Saints to honor along those lines but the orders for druids and rangers might be interesting since they with Green Paladins might do much good for the one guarding the faithful who live in the wilderness and travel and dealing with foul threats usually first.

I picture this in two groups besides expert humans who live among the wild or near it living off the land and making money exploiting it for humans and heir families and others living in rustic areas. Green Knights and Druids who honor the One and gain powers and spells of value in guarding the faithful and human civilization AND Rangers trained to delve deep into the wilderness and live off of it and make coin doing things in it and of course aid the One. Of course this could be amusing for the city clergy who don't get it and the scholars and the odd witch hunter who question the fun and down to Earth wilderness followers. After all sex is natural so why shun it however marriage in many forms would still be preferred at some point if people are lovers.

Of course they would not have heathen trappings like stone circles and would not treat with unnatural creatures but likely have modest holy places shrines, wilderness alters and rustic churches and such. Picture if they have poor but proud mountain folk, forest villages and the like they are very much welcome.

Just some thoughts.

WhatLiesAbove

I've got an idea forming in my head from the bar-wench...

greenknight

RubySlippers, I like what you're getting after here. Consider how the rustic priests would look as clerics with the nature domain versus the power set of druids. I can maybe see some snake handling and other ecstatic* practices involved in this particular sect, maybe they blend some tenets and trappings of the Old Faith into worship of The One.

WhatLiesAbove, PM incoming.

*I think this is the correct adjective for ritual involving displays of faith, as evangelical is the proper adjective for one that preaches bringing the word to the unenlightened.

Hexed

Looks like the magic is calling to everyone. :)

Looking at a hexblade warlock, draconic human or stone sorcery dwarven sorcerer, or the elemental fist monk.

So need to cut down the ideas.

Unless you're wanting specific numbers of each I'll roll for gender once I've settled on an idea.

Got...

The farmer's child that is very strange and dreams of a blade that talks to them. very much something to keep quiet.

The dragon sorcerer could either be a student of the library or one of the Governor's daughter's more unusual companions.

A dwarf in tune with the very earth that they spend so much time in.

The monk though... Don't see any monasteries in your worldbuilding. Maybe an outcast returned home to do their training as they like instead of following the stuffy old men in the monastery.

RubySlippers

Monks could be fighting arms of various religions.

11 folks expressing interest with varying levels of opportunity to discuss character ideas in less than 48 hours. Time to move this to recruiting, I think.

Again, see the worldbuilding thread for more setting info.

For characters, here is the basic sheet and code.
All we really need to start is the first two lines and a brief pitch of the character description.

WhatLiesAbove

Is there a place we can go to build up a character sheet?

greenknight

Hexed, I'm not sure on hexblades yet. Plan on a sword pact for now and I'll get you a solid answer in a day or so. I really concentrated on the Raven Queen and Lore tradition in that UA.

I haven't added it because I wasn't sure how to fit it in, but I've wanted to include a monastery in the mountains. How that works, what's the relationship with the dwarves, etc I haven't come close to working out. But like RubySlippers said, being part of a Church Militant order is one way to go.

When you say "draconic human" sorcerer, you mean a human sorcerer with the draconic origin, right? Sounds good. And you still get draconic resilience, it just doesn't manifest visually until the higher level transformative powers kick in. And by then, jsut about anything might consder you a dragon. Read On Dragons in the worldbuilding thread if you want to go this route.

The dwarf idea looks cool. I reviewed the elemental origins with an eye towards Dark Sun and liked them. Dwarves have a traditional D&D cosmology, multiple deities and the like.

I have a non-magic idea, too.  So, if there's a lot of arcane casters and little to no melee characters, I can easily and happily go that direction.

Are you looking for a character generator? Try Javascript DDNext Character Generator Lite. The owner chose to reduce functionality when Wizbro released their official SRD, but it will get you started with abilities and skills and such.

Also, you can make a sheet on Myth-Weavers...just make sure you utilize the new backup function.

JoanieSappho

I am still remarkably tired. But, rough outline, at least.
Young halfling girl taking over as the new shopgirl. Local, but a bit druidic, taking the job to try and learn what she can from B'Gaa, probably despite the older woman's best efforts. Torn between making her a nice girl or someone who's getting a bit fed up with the humans and is starting to think up plans that she'd probably never actually get to put into action.

("And of course she was expecting me to be 'full size' because don't they always? Honestly, most of the damn oversized idiots probably forget that we even exist, most of the time ..." *dissolves into wordless grumbling*)

greenknight

One last conceit I forgot. All of your characters at least know of each other and you all frequent a pub known as the Don't Fall Inn. It's owned and run by Gretch, father of the barwench cue. It's described here in the worldbuilding thread. Even the Governor's daughter, who's to young to care what her slumming is doing for her reputation.

Hexed

To be fair the hexblades very much seem an "ENEMY" blessing given the focus on curses and such. So to be fair if I do decide on warlock it'd probably be something with a book pact claiming to be a wizard. :D

And yeah, my bad on phrasing that. The sorcerer ideas were a human draconic origin or a dwarven stone origin.

Just need to pick one and see where it goes I guess. :)

Kathyan, welcome to the show.

Ideas I'm looking to kick the tires on are Sea and Stone for Sorcerors, and Arcane Archer and Monster Hunter for fighters. Leaning towards a fighter since lots of people want to be casters of some stripe it seems

I have to withdraw interest -- I haven't received my copy of the fifth edition rules yet, and thus cannot build my character.  I don't want to slow the group down.  Good luck and have fun!

Chulanowa

Hmmm. Couple ideas in my head. Unsurprisingly a lot of them are halflings.

- Human, maybe half-elf Orphan raised on "the Farm" after being orphaned. Has a little sack of silver in one hand and a trusty rusty sword in the other, looking to make his way in life. He's your standard-issue "plucky adventurer" style of character.

- A dwarf cleric of Haela Brightaxe or Sharindlar (co-opting the Forgotten Realms pantheon for this, because their dwarf pantheon is actually really solid) who's come to two Fords as an acolyte (as in the priestly sort) to try to protect the interests of the dwarven faithful against hte mad hysterics of those human atheists ("Only one god? And they call us stingy!")

- Another dwarf, either a ranger or barbarian, who makes a living as a trapper and guide - and who is known tp ruin the day for other trappers who "overstep their bounds." Since I kinda like hte "other dwarves think you're messed in the head" angle, this one is certainly female.

- A halfling thief, on the run from authorities in Ka'ap Ital, who finds Two Fords a nice place to tuck in, lie low, and maybe get a new operation going. Completely not wilderness-saavy.

- Another halfling, an archaeologist interested i nthe ruins of the orcs and elves and whatnot. May have "gone native" to some degree. No idea what class this would be.

- Speaking of "going native" I had the idea that the Gnomes might be the "native versions" of halflings and dwarves. That all three races see some commonality, but with obvious cultural and physical differences. Sort of like how Kender are the "almost-halflings" of Krynn (except, no, NOT Kender, because obviously not Kender.)
