I've had a hard enough time trying to explain this shit-show to my 10th grade students now, who have the benefit of seeing it all unfold on news and social media. Future students will instead get the historical, heavily compressed version. Might be even more confusing, without understanding the present-day context and unique political landscape.

Mmm, and it's not over yet, though I tbink Biden's win averted a long-term disaster. The end of the beginning, hopefully (to quote Churchill).

The last dozen years really have brought to a head the tension over the place of the US in the world, and what kind of nation Americans think the US should be. Trump squarely wants a late 19th century style America, with the thinking, the racism and the unrestrained "anything goes for a dollar" attitude of those days, but with the luxuries and media cosmos of today. It was a world where the concepts of equal human rights and labour rights were all but unknown, where truth was easy to shut down and where most people would look the other way when abuses happened. And a world where white supremacy was taken for granted. Obama, for all his shortcomings, represented an effort to move definitely towards a post-90%-white and post-Thatcherist America.

Trump will be of massive interest to future historians and politologists, both American and from overseas; no US president in the last hundred years has put the inherited system to such hard stress tests, such blunt assaults as he has.

Maybe the harassment, threats and abuse were from Republicans telling her she really should just do the right thing? Is anyone here aware of any Democrats who have "harassed, threatened, and abused" her over the lack of a decision?

No, GSA only controls email domains, office space, money, and background checks on appointed positions. It's at the discretion of POTUS when President-Elect Biden will start getting the Presidential Daily Brief. Knowing the current shitbag, that probably won't happen until January 21st.

I bet Trump got a lot of help in formulating/writing that double tweet in response to the confirmation by the GSA. If he head been left to himself it would have come out much more unhinged and with shouts of "TREASON!" etc.

I'm sure if it came to light that Democrats had done it we would have heard about it by now.  Though it does seem Murphy has been professional if intransigent up until now.  She'll do her job well and make it possible now for the transition to go ahead.  Biden has been quite, hopefully because he knows the spot she has been in, and because he is a gentleman.
