We American voters had screwed ourselves either way.  While I'm hoping for a miracle in that someone can keep Trump reigned in, that he can somehow be a mere figurehead while more sensible conservative people actually run the government, I don't have a ton of hope for it.  However when it comes to Russia, Clinton was just as likely to get us into war.  Her idea of a no fly zone in Syria was dangerous if she actually attempted to enforce it against Soviet jets.  As well, her reset button with Russia was an utter failure as was nearly all of her foreign policy experience while in the State Dept.

Not that I'm saying Trump will be better, but I had no faith at all in Clinton's ability to keep America strong while also keeping us out of war.  That's one reason I couldn't vote for either candidate and hold against both parties that the country was forced into this choice.

I smell what you are stepping in brother rat, exactly the approach I took as well.

Aiden

For the record, I did not vote Trump. But all this melodrama, end of the world crap is already old. Give the racist bigot a chance to not run the country. Sine it will all be stuck in political limbo as always. anyway.

It makes me, for the first time in my life, ashamed to be an American.

And I doubt we'll see an election 2020.

I really did find this hilarious.
PMs are open for all role play inquiries.

Lustful Bride

I despise seeing so many people say they are ashamed to be an American.

There are so many who fought, died, suffer and are still suffering abandoned and carrying the weight of wars on their backs. Be proud to be an American, hate Trump and the political system all you want. But you owe it to all those who have suffered unimaginable pain for you to be free.

So pick up the flag, clean the vile muck off of it and make it stand proud and stand fast. Wear the title "AMERICAN" On your chest with pride and fight to protect the homeland from domestic destruction and corruption.

To say you are ashamed to be an American is insulting to their sacrifices and to everyone else who ever fought o be recognized as a citizen.

I'm just glad it's over.  I'm exhausted.

The one thing I do wonder about though....

For all of the people who are Trump supporters, and feel he's going to make things better (and for those folks who like to blame Obama for everything) what are they going to do if he makes things worse?  Who are they going to find fault with then?

They'll just blame Trump and absolve themselves of him, even though they put him there. Seems to be how it goes for any President really, at least from what I've seen over the years :D

They'll blame Obama, naturally. Just as the Bushites blamed Clinton.

And just as everything bad that happened in the Obama years was the fault of Bush.

I don't think either political party has any moral high ground to grab on this particular issue.

Rebelle

If I'm not mistaken (and I am at times, and am adult to admit that), but wasn't Trump a card carrying Democrat for a very long time?  Could it be possible that he could have some moderate tendencies that we do not know about because he was attempting to sway specific classes?  Mind you, I felt a sense of dread come over me as I placed my vote yesterday for Clinton - not because I didn't want to, but because it seemed almost as an effort in futility.  The country was not ready for a woman president when Obama was running, and apparently and unfortunately they still aren't.  It does not help with the lies and mistruths that have been spoken about in the past few days about Clinton's stances and Obama's executive orders to denounce and forbid the pledge of allegiance from being spoken in schools.

It is that rhetoric that made the mole hill into a mountain.  I love technology, abhor social media - and that is another reason why.  Lies and deceit spread far faster in this day and age than in any other, yes even when Obama was running.

So as I went to bed last night with that feeling of dread - I woke up thoughtful (well after going "I don't want to wake up and crawl out of this warm bed" for twenty minutes)

I can only look towards my child, my friends and their children - and hope that when it is their turn to vote, they can.  That the shock to the systems that are put into place calm down for just a moment we can all breathe again.  Great strides have been made before in the face of adversity.

LGBTQA rights will continue to be fought for by the people for the people.

Humanitarians and socialist minded will continue to strive for health insurance coverage and equality in some fashion, as well as other socio-economic areas that are in dire need of attention.

Wars unfortunately, will be fought, but we are a country that has a history steeped in war - and as Ron Perlman has said... War never changes.

Activism doesn't stop because someone is in office.  Activism continues and should be louder, so voices can be heard.

One ripple in a pond can cause a typhoon - not really but it's a good saying.

It doesn't matter who sits in the White House.

it doesn't matter what they try to do.

I have hope for a better tomorrow- and there is nothing and no one who can take that away from me or anyone else.

Holding onto hope, means we all have something to hold onto.

Sorry for rambling.

After getting some sleep, avoiding my social media where the overall tone is to freak out, and letting myself cool down from last night's stress....

It may have not been the outcome I wanted, but as an American that's part of the process. Maybe it'll be a tumultuous 4 years, maybe it'll be great, maybe he somehow gets impeached in another process.

2016 has been a weird year, and I'm not going to dwell on the negative things anymore. You have to make things work.

Trigon

I think this is just the beginning. If you thought what happened to the GOP was bad, just think of the power vacuum that now exists within the Democratic Party. Seriously, this is probably the worst defeat for the Dema since at least Jimmy Carter in 1980...

Mithlomwen

The thing I'm having a hard time with, is picturing him actually being president.

Like....when a national tragedy happens, and the president weighs in.  Or in meeting with foreign leaders.....or even the State of the Address....

My brain just can't process seeing him standing behind the podium as our President

I don't think it's a matter of if we're ready or not, I think if there was a female president we'd be fine with it. As long as it's not HER. Hillary. The first female president should be someone much better than her, someone who doesn't have a controversial history, who has been firm in her beliefs and is known to be reliable with her stances. We're ready for a woman president, as long as it's not Hillary.

I've never really gotten the "firm in their beliefs" things,-- why would that be a good quality in a politician? Everyone's beliefs shift and change over time, reacting to stuff, and I want my politicans to be flexible enough to shift their positions when times or facts or the situation changes... that's a good thing! They shouldn't be punished for it; yet they are!!!

It makes no sense.

So yeah now you have a presisdent who clearly isn't controversial at all and who's been very clear about his stances and his future plans.   ::)

yeah kinda was my first reaction too. I mean you have a guy who has insulted pretty much every race, insulted an entire religion, preached for violence and you all know what else and this is now the guy who tons of people have chosen to represent their country, to govern them and worse, have given him the codes for nuclear missiles.

yeah I know that last is a bit kinda over the top but really that was one of the first things on my mind.

Really hope he proves me wrong but I still can't help but be a little glad right now I don't live in America.

Why don’t we drink to me and my reflection in your lovely eyes?

(I do not know how to spoiler/hide something or I would have done that. /sigh)

All joking aside, can people please calm down and at least see how President Trump does in office first before losing their cool and panicking? As some have noted, the 'end of the world is here!!!!1!1!' crap is getting old and tedious. Let's wait and see how he does, while holding to our beliefs. We're Americans and like it or not, he is our president. At the least we owe him the chance to prove himself to us. And the office itself is worthy of basic respect no matter who holds it.

Mmhmm, it sucks, but its also kind of the cost of Democracy.

I don't like it either, but the people DID vote for him, and meh.

(What's the saying? Democracy-- the worst government system out there except for all of the others,--)

I want to think things won't be as bad/weird as people fear. Of course HE is very weird and well, can't stop saying weird things that insult people. Maybe he will calm down and be normal-ish (meds? lol)...

And really folks, refuse to feel ashamed of being American. You are you. Some pretty shitty things have taken place in my country/on my continent and I'm still proud of who I am, just not of the crap.
