A happy ending, but very expensive for the telecoms engineers who spent 18 months trying to find the problem.

This is pretty grim reading but it is good news, and uplifting. The world needs more judicial rulings as in this case.

We need more of this in our world right now.

I can see this guy going down in history as a modern artist in the future.

This story did make me very happy.

His work does in fact have some skill. :D

I was like, “Oh god no please don’t take Tom Lehrer!” Then I realized he wasn’t dead. But this is awesome!

Footballers, by whom I mean soccer players for American readers, often, justifiably, get a bad press, but there are have been many exceptions who have worked hard for justice and their community.

One such is Marcus Rashford, who comes from a poor background in Wythenshawe in Manchester, and went to school in my town. He has had a personal  campaign to ensure that poorer children can continue to get free school meals during the school  summer holidays. The government agreed to this, and even recommended him for an honour from the Queen, which he received.
He has continued his campaign with an aim for those children to get free school meals in further holidays, and has had massive support from businesses, who are struggling themselves in many cases.

However, this is not entirely positive and uplifting as the government, who  did agree to his earlier suggestions, have now turned against him and instructed their MPs to vote against this (five rebelled). The odious MP for Mansfield, Ben Bradley, even said that the food vouchers were spent in crack dens and brothels, although he has said his remarks were taken out of context.

All in all, though, I do think this is uplifting, as it is great to see someone who has come to wealth at a young age work for the benefit of other people, and be a sort of moral conscience of the nation.

Not viewable here. Pout

Haibane

Really? I am surprised. Can you view the other BBC links I put up?

Haibane

Pleased to hear it!

This is election-linked but I thought I'd put it here as its such great news.

From the BBC:

"Activist becomes Missouri's first black congresswoman

Cori Bush, a racial-justice activist who was once homeless, has become the first black woman to represent Missouri in Congress. She won with about 79% of the votes to her Republican opponent's 19%.

Her district includes the cities of St Louis and Ferguson - where massive protests took place in 2014 after the police shooting of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old black man.

Bush was an activist leader during those Ferguson demonstrations.

An ordained minister and former nurse, she was backed by the Justice Democrats, a group that has campaigned for progressives, including New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Her success in the Democratic primary earlier this year illustrates the growing influence of the party's left wing. She defeated William Lacy Clay Jr for the nomination, ending his family's decades-long hold on the seat."

Elderly couple in Stourport, West Midlands, UK were going to throw out a pile of old toys left to them by a neighbour in his will. They had ordered a skip to chuck them in but decided to ask a local auctioneer to take a look first. Good thing they did. The whole collection went for £410,000 including over £250,000 of Star Wars toys and figures. A vinyl-caped Jawa sold for £22,000.
