Crimes inside the US that cross state lines typically fall under federal jurisdiction.

Typically yeah. It can depend on the nature of the crime and the states involved and what is being argued but usually yeah. Sideshow Bob's argument I don't think would have too much legal grounding.

LisztesFerenc

The border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is also very lax, and sometimes runs through people's homes. I find it interesting that if someone kill their spouse in such a home, which room the crime happened in would (presumably) determine whether they were tried in a British or Irish court.

So more government websites are removing information about LGBT rights specifically for transgender people.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/chrisgeidner/trump-transgender-military-ban-supreme-court

And Trump's administration wants to bring the Transgender Military Ban to the Supreme Court.

Also Twitter just updated their TOS to including targeted misgendering and deadnaming of trans people as prohibited. Which is pretty welcome. I did notice that very recently transphobes on twitters have been getting in trouble and suspended more, and have been complaining about it.

I'd have faith if Twitter actually enforced its TOS. There are countless stories I've heard of people doing screenshots of rulebreakers caught red-handed along with quotes of the relevant rule, only for Twitter to deliver a canned "this does not violate our TOS."

Twitter only really enforces these rules if it risks becoming newsworthy in a negative way or will drive enough users from the site to hurt their bottom line.

Tolvo

Oh yeah they're generally complete shit. I recently reported tweets of the person who got suspended for harassing and threatening me, they made a new account using the same name and were bragging that twitter hadn't found that account and could never find them while showing evidence it was them. Twitter said they found nothing that violated the TOS. A part of it is because it is mostly automated, and on top of that you can't report for specific enough things. You can't report someone for dodging suspension even though it is against TOS, only if twitter employees see it will they do anything and even then they might not.

Gilets jaunes taken over by far right, far left, separatists, Purge-ists, royalists, isolationists (from the flags I saw) as well as plain rioters… Some are literally tearing off the pavement from the Champs-Elysées. I think everyone with an agenda or some hatred to spare is out there currently.

I think at this point I would have called in the French equivalent of the National Guard and made them stay for two to three weeks. It just seems like the violence is back to back by now.

Tolvo

Yeah I have some friends who live in France and it just seems like such a mess that whole ordeal and that the people involved just are all lumped together with no agreed upon goal anymore, and that it originally had some sort of point but is just some fucking complete mess now.

The French tend to just do nothing and then suddenly go crazy. Not that I was expecting this to descend into utter crazy so quick.
More and more cops on sick leave (so teachers aren't the only ones begging their doc? lol), depression and whatever else.

Since I don't visit the PROC board all that often, I'm not sure if anybody's brought up the EU's 'Article 13' law, which puts some heavier restrictions on user created online content.

I dunno it kind of sounds like he really doesn't understand what he's talking about judging by the documents and what I can read about various interpretations. I can see some criticism of it sure but, I guess they guy who is made fun of for over analyzing and not understanding things isn't the best source for information on EU laws.

So in dumb news, a news site has allegedly censored Sarah Kendzior. This comes after she claimed that Al Jazeera also censored her work. The problem is, Sarah constantly lies. It actually frustrates me that I see her held up as some sort of genius when she constantly lies and doesn't understand very basic things. She once claimed Twitter was censoring her because another person posted a link to an article of hers, and they themself marked it as sensitive content. Despite others posting the link just fine, she claimed Twitter was censoring her. When someone pointed out Twitter wasn't, she said they were delusional and needed immediate mental help and kept misgendering them. So according to Al Jazeera she basically freaked out because she pitched an article to them which they planned to publish in a week, but she assumed they'd publish it immediately and they didn't so they were censoring her.

http://pr.aljazeera.com/post/98052479285/statement-on-aljazeeracom-editorial-policies

In regards to the Correspondent, they were changing the data for their site and tons of articles were still being transferred and updated, and they did restore her articles, but she feels this wasn't enough and now says they are messaging her hundreds of thousands of twitter followers libeling her(They aren't, they replied just to people who asked for a statement and that's it). Sarah frustrates me because I know center and a few lefty people that retweet her conspiracy theories and those strawmen that the right wing makes about the left? Sarah actually is that, she is a person who loves to call anyone who disagrees with her a Russian Bot and always thinks there is some conspiracy out to get her when usually it is a tech problem she doesn't understand. She can be right about certain things but usually it's easy to guess stuff anyway and it doesn't make it okay that she just spreads conspiracy theories and makes money off of it. She's also before shared weird stuff from Neo-Nazi sites without I think even realizing what kind of site it was.

Her most recent evidence that a site censored her was her claim that an editor didn't believe in climate change and voter suppression, despite the news site having articles on that already. She decided to provide damming evidence, a picture of text of her saying climate change and voter suppression is real. That's what she's got, it's not even clear if it is an email or in some sort of text document. This is her evidence that prompts her many fans to defend her and attack the news site. A lot of news sites have shitty people and various problems, and this one I bet does. But this isn't evidence of censorship, it is just more crap she appears to be making up.

I know this isn't big news it's just some dumbass writer and journalist with bad credibility but if you end up seeing it get picked up in the news keep in mind where all of this is coming from.

Oh yeah and the New York Times posted an op-ed by a trans woman who thinks because transitioning isn't working for her that she needs to argue against it and a bunch of transphobic stuff and I'm so sick of fucking today. I don't even want to link it, its so ignorant and vile and then she goes on about the Transgender Inc that is evil and bad and uggg.

In brighter news it is 85th anniversary of the Holodomor and god actually I'm gonna like try to google good news.

Gilets jaunes still at it. I hear some cops have joined them. A guy tried to run over some gilets jaunes in Montpellier. I'm not finding English articles.

Bengladesh refugee acquitted of rape "because he didn't have the cultural codes". I find it horrifying that in Europe, you can be freed of rape charges just because you are a minority, but if you criticize that culture, you can face prison time for it.

The EU simply does not count as part of the 'free world' in my mind anymore.

Not all countries are the same even in the EU. It's the first time I see this in France, for ex. That said prison time for criticizing another culture? Where? I'm not denying that free speech isn't like in the USA here (and in a way, it's good - some opinions suck too much) but even huge racists go free with a fine. I remember that horrible interview with a guy who openly went on about blacks, Arabs and "yellows" on TV, and how he lives in Paris but keeps his family out of town because women and children are nice to visit but yeah. Basically all the most nauseating stereotypes. I just googled and he's still around

This is not the first time that EU member states have punished or threatened imprisonment for those denouncing harmful ideas. The ECHR even recently ruled that stating factual information about Islam is not free speech, regardless if the information is even true or not.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2018/10/europe-rules-against-free-speech/574369/

With cases like that, I simply cannot consider any EU member-state to be a free and open society by default.

Isn't factual information, by definition, true? Maybe that was just worded weirdly, because it's a bit confusing.
