Dark Rabbit

Hi all!

Welcome to *gestures* something! Before we begin, you might want to take a look at my Ons/Offs page.

I have a couple of scenarios listed below, more or less in order of how fleshed out the ideas are. They're super cliche, so please have mercy! I think most of them can be written either as ensemble stories, with each of us playing a number of characters, or as one-on-one stories with two main characters. If any of them strike your fancy, or give you an idea which you would like to play out with me, please feel free to drop me a PM! I won't bite [unless you ask me to ;)]

After the Fallout - Currently craving

Nobody ever expects the bombs.

For the residents of New Eden, Colorado it was a regular holiday season. The small town went through the time honored traditions of putting up lights, decorating trees, buying presents. Children, off from school, frolicked in the snow, families gathered for Christmas dinners, and there were good tidings and cheer all around.

For Alex Epps it was the end of the world. If only he knew just how right he was.

When Alex had agreed to spend the holidays with his fiancee’s family back in her hometown, he assumed that at worst he would have to sit through awkward family dinners, struggle with itchy sweaters, and endure a town small enough to walk through the entire “downtown” in half an hour. Instead, his fiancee decided to reconnect with her high school sweetheart, dumping Alex and their three year relationship without so much as a second thought.

And so, Alex found himself wasted in the smallest, saddest bar in the state on Christmas Eve, trying to rebook his flight back to New York. That was, until, the television broadcast stopped suddenly. The bar errupted in commotion until one person yelled for everyone to get outside. Alex peered off into the distance and saw, hundreds of miles away and through the winter night, something which he had never seen in his life, and yet which was immediately recognizable. The mushroom cloud of a nuclear bomb.

As the world enters a new era of nuclear fallout, New Eden finds itself in a surprisingly fortunate position. Situated in the mountains, it is too far away from any major population centers to have been hit, weather patterns keep radiation clouds from passing over, and it has a natural resevoir, salt mines, farms, and a local power station for the basic needs of the town.

Still, challenges abound. Armed gangs rove the land, looking to prey upon the weak and defenseless. Manipulators hoard resources, trying to exploit their fellow townsfolk. Tensions run high and threaten to tear this small town apart as people live in this new era of uncertainty. And who are these newcomers in town who seem to know a suspicious amount about surviving nuclear fallout?

***

The idea for this plot comes from a mix of those Hallmark Christmas movies (as told from the perspective of the dumped boyfriend) and the television show Jericho. No worries if you aren't familiar with either. I'm looking to play Alex, an engineer from New York City who finds himself stranded during the nuclear apocalypse in a small town where the only people he knows are his now ex-fiancee's family. I'm looking for someone to play a woman in town; this could be Alex's ex, a family member of hers, or someone else living in town. I would also be open to us playing multiple roles throughout the town. I'm very happy to discuss the plot, setting, characters, or anything else! Let me know if the idea appeals to you.

Last Virtue

Last Virtue was a podunk town on the edge of nothing, not much more than a train stop for the few local ranchers to ship some of their livestock out East.

That was until they found gold in the hills.

Overnight the town exploded, growing from 30 to 3,000, as people came to seek their fortune and a new start. New to town are miners, merchants, investors, hustlers, swindlers, bandits, government men, and of course law enforcement trying to keep them all in order.

Double extra bonus points for having a steampunk element to the story as well.

This setting was inspired by Westworld and my recent playing of Fallout: New Vegas.

"What are you doing here?"

MC finds himself in a loveless marriage. Lonely and frustrated he finds himself frequenting internet chat sites and forum boards, where he meets YC. They strike up a friendship which eventually becomes flirtatious and eventually something even a little bit more. They agree to a secret rendezvous, but when MC arrives to the date he's shocked to see that he already knows YC!

The idea here is that YC is someone who's fairly close to MC's wife; she's possibly a coworker, a friend, a neighbor, a family member, or even his wife herself. How does this date play out? How do these relationships progress?

These possible faceclaims inspired the story, but I'm open to other suggestions.

A Web of Secrets

The basic idea that I have is that a corporate middle manager/accountant stumbles upon a secret that they shouldn't have. Shortly after, they come head to head with a dangerous assassin. But is the assassin there to protect said accountant, or hunt them down?

Tentative hook:

(A) wanted to collapse and yet couldn't sit still. Normally a morning filled interviews would only evoke one of those reactions. Nevertheless, (A) nervously tapped drummed their fingers against the hardwood desk as they reread the Post-It, half expecting the words to change on that go-through. None of the previous applicants had raised any alarms, which only furthered (A)'s anxieties. A reckoning is coming.

A sharp knock at the door brought (A) from their thoughts. "Come on in," they half yelped out, half coughed out in surprise. They gave one last glance over the note. Your secret is out. We're sending one of ours. A reckoning is coming. (A) looked up to see the devilishly attractive "applicant" strut into the room, seemingly uninterested in the person sitting behind the desk. This was the one. A wave of calm washed over them, knowing that all of this would soon be over. (A) very calmly reached below the desk for their weapon when they were cut off by the chill voice echoing in the room.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you."

(B) took a seat across from (A), leaning back and glancing around, before locking their icy gaze directly on (A). "So, shall we begin?"

I'm happy to play either of these roles!

Bradford State Shenaningans. I'm less interested in this one now but I could be persuaded to write if someone else is interested.
Bradford State Shenanigans

So this idea is probably one of the more smut-heavy ones that I have (though I suppose it doesn't have to be). I'm imagining a collection of vignettes taking place on a college campus/in the surrounding town, mainly centering around debauchery. Some possible scenarios/themes could be:

  • A flirtatious relationship developing between a barista and a regular
  • Some sort of sexual conquest requirement for greek life pledges
  • Someone is hot for their TA
  • A professor taking advantage of their research assistants
  • Slipping into a dorm room that isn't your date's
  • A game of truth or dare an afterparty spirals out of control
  • A student's long distance high school sweetheart comes to visit

The Vacation Town

You've probably seen Vinegrove Beach in movies and television, with sprawling beachfront houses that millionaires come to stay in for two months a year. What you probably haven't seen are the thousands less "well-to-do" townies who live there all year, servicing the area.

I'd like to write a story exploring the interactions of the haves and the have-nots that exist in vacation towns like these.

Yo Ho Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me

What started as a simple sea supply stop quickly turned into the largest town of its kind: a "neutral-zone" where pirates, royal navies, colonial forces, and all others can come and go as they will, in peace. A town like this attracts a lot of people with ambition, looking to gain power and sway politics, both local and global. As a thought, I'd be interested in adding magic, and other fantasy elements to the mix, although that's not necessary.

Very loosely inspired by Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

Mission: Mars

For this story, I'm looking to write about the first humans to permanently settle on Mars, in the same genre as Andy Weir's The Martian. I'd really like to get into what challenges a cohort of 6-12 people would face. I'm hoping for this to be more along the lines of "realistic science fiction" than say, have alien life be a major presence.

A Brave New World

Nuclear war. Chemical agents. An unknown virus. Zombies, vampires, robots. Whatever it was, billions died and society collapsed. Survivors now find themselves in the midst of a new and dangerous world, uncertain of what is to come. To survive, small camps have begun popping up, clans of people sticking together to take on the future.

Extraordinary Lenses

This one really isn't a story idea at all, just an idea for a single object. A collection of camera lenses (or microscope lenses, telescope lenses, or glasses) which reveal things hidden to the naked eye. Some possibilities for what might be seen through these lenses:

  • Trace amounts of chemicals
  • Types of radiations
  • Objects in other dimensions/realities/universes
  • Magical energies
  • Things from the past or future

Rob From the Rich and Give to Nobody

I love a good heist! Be it a bank, a casino, a museum, I love the plotting, scheming, contingency plans, etc. I would love to brainstorm a heist story with someone.
