Hello everyone! I am seeking a group of likeminded roleplayers who would be interested in an original fantasy setting of my own creation.

The setting is loosely based upon medieval Asia and countries along the silk road, taking place in a megacontinent with areas inspired by China, Japan, Rome and the Near East. The primary setting of the world is the capitol city of Shen'de, which is primarily inspired by the Forbidden City. The setting incorporates many Fantasy tropes like Elder Scrolls style magic and D&D-like races/species.

If you are a fan of series like the Apothecary Diaries, Dungeons and Dragons, or Court Dramas, you may find this setting interesting. I am looking for players who enjoy a variety of themes like Military, Politics, Combat, Intimacy and Intrigue. I have a few characters already made for this setting, including the Empress, one of the military generals, and one of the Emperor's concubine-slaves. The latter is my favorite to play for 1x1s, but I could throw in the others as supplements to a greater story in group settings.

If there is interest or questions I would be happy to answer!

Oh wonderful! What kind of character might you be interested in playing? I can share some more lore if you're interested?

I’m not sure yet, I usually need to look at an OOC before I can really come up with particulars but I would love to see any lore you’d be willing to share.

Of course! Here's some lore about the territories?

The city of Shen'de is the Capitol of the Shen'de Territory, and the Capitol of the greater Valorostian Empire. Shen'de is home to the Imperial Palace where the Emperor resides, as well as temporary residence for the many Generals in his Court, and a home for his wives, and his servants. The Lower City of Shen'de has a good amount of Civilian Merchants seeking to profit off of the high traffic in and out of the City, and soldiers from across the Empire often visit the Capitol to receive the Emperor's blessings. The City of Shen'de serves as a common forum and gathering point for members of the Inner and Outer territories both, as well as foreigners and visitors.

The Inner Territories are the heart of Valorostia, having deep roots in the Empire and unified as one over 500 years ago. They consist of Hanleng to the North, Huoshan-Xue to the East, Zhaoze to the South, and Ganhan to the West. Up until Emperor Avar's reign, the inner territories were plagued by a beast known as the Ice Qiongqi which slaughtered hundreds of Valorostians and collected their spirits. When Emperor Avar defeated the Qiongqi, he gained control of these spirits and set them at peace. The people of the Inner Territories are spiritually linked to their Emperor because of this, and can communicate with the Emperor through their souls.

The Outer Territories are the furthest reaches of the Empire, and under looser cultural control. They consist of Cassida to the North, Yukifu to the East, Nhiete to the South, and Alkuth to the West. Alkuth and Yukifu have been conquered by the Empire for a considerable amount of time, but Nhiete and Cassida are recent conquests and politically unstable. Though the Outer Territories are often poorer, they are free from the direct link to the Emperor that the Inner Territory citizens possess.

Interesting! Out of curiosity, are the inner and litter territories occupied by different species? Or are the differences purely cultural?

The outer territories are more likely to be home to more exotic species like djinn, elves, and other magical creatures :)

I'm potentially interested. Asia inspired setting is new experience to me, but it sounds intriguing. If/when you decide to make this into a group roleplay, it might be good to post interest check in Group Requests: GMs/Groups seeking Role Players section beause it's likely the game will get more attention in that section.

Would this be freeform or system game? Are you planning on making it a sandbox roleplay or GM led story roleplay or something different? What type of faceclaims are allowed? Is there some kind of red string of story or some kind of goal the player characters are excpected to pursue or something they are assumed to do?

There is an overarching plot but i like to encourage Freeform and fun over mandating a certain goal. I like creating settings and seeing characters come to life within that world, and I don’t like to heavily restrict others creative freedoms like that. So I’d say it’s more sandbox.

As for face claims they are optional and whatever you’d like. I am not a visual heavy person, and while my characters all have drawn or 3D references as I design them, I don’t expect that from others since art is not something everyone does.

All of that sounds good : )

Would it be possible to play a fox person? Something that looks like a human but with fox ears and tail/s?

Yes, that would be totally fine :) That sounds very kitsune like, So Yukifu might be an appropriate home territory as that one is most inspired by Japan.

ThatGuy285

That guy, you know who did the thing with the other thing. No not that thing!

If there is I’d be happy to join! I’ve got a Kitsune to throw in if Kissa isn’t already doing so. Otherwise I’ll figure something else out.

But only if this has some life…

Yea, I'm gonna make a foxgirl if this kinda roleplay ever starts. I see no problem why there couldn't be two : ) If necessary slap them with different race names for more creative freedom.

The roleplay is still lacking a gm though : (

There has been a lot of interest but no GM, so I doubt this is going anywhere before a willing GM shows up.
