A Hub For Worldbuilding and Alt-History

This thread is both vague enough and specific enough that I decided to set it apart from my usual request thread, however link to said general request thread is down below in my signature as well as my O/O’s so as usual, please peruse those at your leisure, and as always do not respond to this thread, direct all messages of interest to my PM inbox!

As a writer, I am always changing and evolving. Whether that is in the style and pacing of my writing, or adding new words to my lexicon to be recycled and used again later. I change the way I approach stories, the way I write them, the way I structure them as time goes on. I think this is true for most of us.

However my one constant is that I’ve always had a passion and an eye I think for worldbuilding. Whether thats designing an entirely new world and setting from the ground up including nations, cultures, religions, general ideas for map and world size. Or designing creative alternative history scenarios that take small, medium, or large deviations from our own worlds history and seeing where they end up.

When it comes to worldbuilding, given the opportunity, I will go all out on designing a setting. Not merely coming up with and naming fantasy nations on a fantasy world, but going deeper to discuss local and foreign cultures, religions, military styles, government styles, and weaving them all together to hopefully form what at least feels like a cohesive, living, and real world outside of just the perspective of our characters within those stories.

As for alt-history, well this is another one that I like to think very deeply. Rather than simply posit the scenario of ‘Rome Never Fell’ I like to think about, why did they not fall, what happened different? What changes would this cause on the historical, religious, and cultural landscapes of Europe and the Middle East? What things are radically different, what things stay the same or similar? These are definitely themes that deserve attention when positing these scenarios.

Now the other question is where does this bring us, the writers? Well thats an open ended question really. I’m putting this thread up to attract the interest of two types of writers. Those who want to collaborate and craft a world or a scenario together mutually and then set a story in it. Or those who are more than content to merely let me go wild on designing a world or alt-history scenario and then setting a story within it.

There are also two interesting veins of story that I like to do with these sorts of projects. One is a story where the world itself is as much a character in our writing as the characters we are writing. In these scenarios I usually like for us to come up with several different pairs of characters that serve for different perspectives from different parts of the world and have a hand in driving the events. The other is where we play a more localized story within the setting, knowing that the rest of the world is out there but its not super important to our characters, the world being more of a vehicle to explore possible interesting themes and relationships between our characters.

If any of this sounds interesting or entertaining to you, please feel free to reach out and poke me about it! I am always actively looking for writing partners who are interested in collaborating on crafting something wholly unique and ours whether that be a whole new world to play with and mold to our will, or exploring some alternative history scenario and considering the many angles that it could come about, and how it would affect everything else.

I hope this thread manages to garner some interest from all of you lovely creative minds here on E! I love and adore being here and thank you for reading!
