Deal with it.

Deal with it.

Deal with it.

Marlowe’s eye twitched in anger. If getting a rise out of her was Hulta’s goal, she was certainly pressing the right buttons. What kind of trouble would she get into for popping this smug elf right in the damn mouth? Probably too much. Her thumb stopped idling against the card, freezing instead. None of it was helped by confirmation that she had told her parents. That was that then. This was real. Marlowe rolled her head and looked at Hulta, staring at those red tresses she liked so much. So then Hulta really was like the others. That was breaking. It felt final. It also felt like gasoline on the fire of anger inside of her.

She caught Hulta’s gaze, and held it back. What she saw was worse than any of it. Neutrality. Forced or not, it didn’t matter, and then she was turning away again. Lolo peered past Hulta’s shoulder at the shelves and furrowed her brow. It just boiled inside of her. The anger. The disappointment. The sadness of. Lolo stepped away from the doorframe and made a point to take it up, facing Hulta’s back. She lifted the card in the air and squeezed two sides of it between her fingers, pulling in opposite directions. It ripped, slowly, and loudly in the quiet. “Dealt with it.” Lolo said, bitterly, flinging the two halves to the floor on either side of Hulta. It wasn’t like her to intentionally get herself in trouble, but any more time here was going to land her in more hot water. So Marlowe twisted without another word, since that’s how Hulta wanted to handle this, and marched away from the closet and the classroom - professor Lowed could yell at her later.
