Classroom Isekai - BESM 4e - Interest Check

I don’t have a lot of hope I’d be able to do this well, and I’d want to have someone sign on as an assistant before I’d have any faith in attempting to run it.  However, I can still put things together as an interest check, hang onto the idea, see who’d be interested to play and assist in running.  I intend to have the BESM 4e system used for the game if it ever gets run.

The idea is not original by any means.  During the first day of class for an American university, a mystical portal suddenly appeared, transporting everyone in the room to a kingdom of a fantasy world.  Able to use magical powers in this world, they are the best hope of helping against the evil threat.

Now, unless the players want it, I don’t intend for the story to be that the players are trapped on the fantasy world.  It makes perfect sense that powers like Dimension Walk and Portal can get you back home.  As such, it may be best to change the way Dimension Walk works in 4e so that it works more like 3e, where the higher your attribute, the faster you can move from realm to realm.  (As written, Dimension Walk in 4e is basically Amber anyway, at least as far as I got in the Amber books.)  That said, the only magic that works on Earth is the power to get back.

Even though I don’t have a lot of ideas and doubt I’d do a good job in running right now, I figured I’d put this up so that people who might be interested in playing could give feedback.  Would folks love or hate the idea of sex-changing potions being commonplace?  Would they want to make warriors who destroy the monsters or leaders who attempt to rebuild the fantasy world?

If nothing else, maybe I’ll be able either to put the idea aside as one with no interest or have the seeds blossom into something I could run if I got enough interesting feedback that inspired me to go with it.

Not too late.  There's at least some interest, so I'll keep an eye on the idea and see if the idea box percolates more.

I'd probably go with 100 CP for the characters.  A lot of it would boil down to magical abilities that you just naturally have access to while in the fantasy realm, although I wouldn't mind if a handful of people wanted futuristic tech that they just happened to get via the crossover.  ("Yeah, heroes end up with weird things like laser pistols all the time.  That's why we want your help!")  I'm less concerned with trying to explain it and have more faith that players would come up with interesting ideas.

The big question would be how characters would be apt to work things through.  Would it be the standard Isekai warrior template, or would people have other ideas they want to implement?

Rising of the Shield Hero is an Isekai ^_^ I’ve seen both seasons of the anime.

Being new to the system is also not an issue.  I’m happy to teach.

Depends on the tone really. :) If we're talking chiller isekais like Konosuba and Magical Revolution, then definitely have them focus on the absurd powers instead of warrior templates.

Never seen either of those.  I don’t expect the PCs to be too ridiculously powerful when compared to the rest of society, though.  Powerful but not the only ones out there with magic.

Haven’t tried that before.  I’d have to see if I can get an assistant good at that style.

In games I run, unless otherwise expressed, sexual content is usually just left up to the players.  I like that E makes it an easy option so that things can escalate without difficulty, but I rarely go in expecting much unless it seems like it’s going to be THAT kind of game.

Although, I’m still blanking for anything interesting, so I may well just keep this concept in the burner.

I would be interested as well. Currently returning to play from some prolonged medical issues myself.

I have no experience with BESM, but should be able to pick up on it quickly enough. I'm also more into relaxed (instead of combat heavy) RP, dramedy is fine.

So if someone is going to pick up this idea... I'd be interested.
