Modern Fairy Tale

No.  Whats this really about?
I like a good old zombie apocalypse, but they are so played out.  And so nasty.  Walking, rotting corpses are not fun to describe or interact with in any meaningful way.  Wait.  What about vampires.  Girls like vampires.  There have been some good vampire plague movies.  But they are like a favorite song everybody plays all the time until your just sick of it.  And fuckin’ sparkles?  Forget about it.

So I began to daydream a different end of times.  One where the scenery was nice and lots of wonderment.  Then I glanced at my D&D books.  What if that stuff happened, but was scarry.  Something someone locked away from us long ago and now its busting through whatever door kept it out of our world and its looking for blood.  So a magical, beautiful event, but one with as dread consequences for us as an effin’ zombie apocalypse.  Well almost.  More interesting conversations and sex scenes, at least.

What do I think would be fun?
(Now this is just a quick run through in my mind.  Things can change or be adjusted or added to or even reinterpreted according to input from my writing partner.  Let it play though visually and let details kind of fill in as it goes.  Here it is.)

It always starts with an achingly beautiful young woman.  She and some of her family and boyfriend are barely surviving in the new magical hell.  I picture her with her mom, her little brother, and of  course her boyfriend.  They get into some trouble, of course.

I picture the boyfriend gets bitten by a tiny flying girl, which instantly causes Elfshot, which is what midevial peasants called a stroke.  They are trying to transport him across wilds, when they are beset by a troll and a hag controlling it.  She cackals and talks about how pointy ears would love to get a hold of your girl so she decides to ruin her by having the troll rape her.  He strips her, bends her over, when they are politely interrupted by an elf.

He ends up engaging in light conversation before killing the troll and hag, both who have been terrorizing elf communities.  He turns like some badass samurai after collecting her head and is about to walk back into the rain… when your character drops to her knees, naked in the rain, begging him to help all of you. He pauses, feels something for her, so he offers what he can.

He stabilizes the boyfriend, helps transport him.  Takes you guys to a human community on the outskirts of an elven tree village.  There you will have to barter for more.

Elves are humans that changed when the Great Change happened.  They gained memories from long time before.  They gained incredible intelligence and grace and physical power.  They do not even need to sleep and only meditate from time to time to reflect on the thousands of years of memories they have to sort through.  They gain Enchantment, a force which surrounds them causing fires to burn blue and electronics to crash.  Also it causes intense charm in humans who bear their focus.  They gain the mysterious ‘taste of immortality’ but are virtual emotional vampires because their ‘tears are washed away by oceans of time’.  They can work ‘wonders’, seemingly magical creations from the new materials available.

Elves need humans.  All that advancement stunts them emotionally and they feel no joy or relaxation without interplay with humans.  They feel isolated and numb under the weight of eternity and how awesome they are and so need our child like emotions and wonderment to feel centered.  Humans who spend too much time with elves have been changed though.  It is possible to experience too much Enchantment so that nothing non-elven is good enough anymore.  The ‘taste of immortality’ can sometimes turn a human more elvish over time… or if they don’t like the suplicant or are base anyway, they instead deform into lowly servile ‘goblins’.  So the question becomes how much of your humanity are you willing to bargin with.

Your girl is so beautiful, that she is negotiated with by the elves as a ‘surrogate’.  She will be kind of a human call girl for elves, who are very sensual and into BDSM (or any other kinks you have), etc.  They treat us like pets… and we serve a similar role.  There is even an elven couple who can only hope to have children with the help of a surrogate.  Even that elven knight who rescued them might show up and want time with her.  For this her family is taken care of.  An antitoxin is given to her boyfriend which completely cures him.

By now I think you can see where I would love to see this go.  The boyfriends is alright at first, still sleeps with her, but eventually starts to resent her and becomes more and more of a dick.  Mom and little brother have their problems.  Your girl starts to drift.  All that intense time with elves… with Enchantment weighing heavily… naked and petted and wearing clamps or collars or whatever else.  It starts to effect her.  Food doesn’t have taste.  Clothing starts getting more and more scratching until she would rather walk around topless or naked sometimes because cloth is so scratchy.  This could spiral out the boyfriend even further.  By the end I picture she gives herself as much as she can in the most moving way possible to the knight… this so moves him that his nature changes.  All Seelie were said to have been slain because the Monarchy stole their secrets… but in truth all fae are both Seelie and Unseelie… the Unseelie side has been dominate.  She awakens his Seelie side.  He makes her a Beloved… as close as a human can be brought to an elf… a hybrid… able to still surrogate, but having some of their traits, like near immortality and being able to use wonders made by others.

Conclusion
I can see a lot of fun and novel themes to play with on this.  The rebirth of magic and such wonders.  Transhumanism.  Corruption is a theme Ive seen swatted at but here it would be different in that she is becoming something other.  Maybe something better.  The thought that another might ascend beyond us but yet still need us is a fun theme.  Man being brought low and face the consequences of his hubris with this earth.  Seeing a petty relationship fall to the wayside while another one arises is interesting.

I would love to explore these with a writer which can convince me she/he writes and thinks as a woman.  Who or what you are in RL is trivial to me, the focus should be our story.  I can write a pretty good woman, but I always worry about slipping up.  If this is something thats natural to you, I want you to play with me.

To show my chops, I offer a link to a story I am very proud of which featured a lot of world building.  In it Greek gods and goddesses lived in the modern world and protected people from chaos and titanspawn.  The main character was the daughter of Aphrodite, but her lineage was never clear if her father was Hephastes or Aries.  They both want her for themselves as her mentor/father/lover.  It was pretty intense and epic.

She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance. "Grandmother," cried the little one, "O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large, glorious Christmas-tree." And she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. And the matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day, and her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God.
