Quiet Snowstorm

Welcome! I've never created a recruitment thread on this site before, nor a roleplay, so hopefully I'm doing this correctly. Let me know if anything is unclear or if I'm doing something wrong as I'm still getting used to this forum.

Story

There are always scams falsely promising a prize in exchange for personal information in the hopes of selling a product or some pyramid scheme, but, regardless, people still make attempts in hopes of getting what lies at the end of the rainbow. An island getaway for an entire month, free of charge, with both room and board, was offered as the winnings for a sweepstakes with basic rules and a sheet to fill out. It was simple, a hotel that was trying to get good publicity and reviews, a letter explaining what to do with pictures of the place that looked proper and real just arrived in the mailbox one day, falling right into their lap. In a few weeks, after applying, they would find a cruise ticket to take them to their temporary life.

It seemed to be real. The boat trip was part of the package, enjoying a beautiful room with a view of the sea and enjoyable activities to pass the two days it took to get to the island. Stepping off with many of the other contest winners, a guide escorts them all through the tiny town of locals to the expensive hotel that looks more like a mansion than the tall building that was expected. Things are normal, fun, until the guests discover that the people of the island aren't human like the rest of them and have no interest in letting them leave. They needed people lower than them, worth less than them, to worship them, to be their servants or their playthings. It was too good to be true after all.

Playable characters are both monsters and humans. The former lives on the small island, whether it be in town or in the forest or a cave somewhere, but through an underground network, other creatures are constantly finding a haven here where they don't have to worry about being hunted or killed. The latter has come because of the prize but, seeing as the whole thing is made up, a person could easily fake a ticket to investigate why people aren't returning later down the road, or even a hunter that cracked the secret code?

Rules

This is a create your own story inside the plot type of roleplay. You can feel free to flex your creative muscles or just watch where the story ends up taking you, though I'll try to throw in events from time to time.

Because of the theme of this being a slave x master roleplay, with creatures being the masters and humans being the slaves, please be sure to talk to your partner to make sure everything goes smoothly and no boundaries are crossed, this includes just kindly asking before claiming a character with your own. Remember the rules of the site, despite the theme, permission is a big thing outside of the roleplay and you don't actually own anyone or their characters so be respectful to each other!

At this time, there is not a character sheet to fill out but if requested, I can add one.

These are rules to keep things organized for us but also build the setting-
These are the creature's rules on how to approach the humans -- "Humans are to be claimed by a monster, they do not belong to everyone; first come, first serve. Only one per person. The playthings may be treated as their owner decides and no one else should step in, human or otherwise. Others without a companion can also be treated as desired but ones that belong to another should not be abused unless permission is given by their superior, they are essentially under their protection and that is instigating a fight. If a human is killed, the beast may not take another unless it was necessary; they're not infinite and were not brought here to be slaughtered for our enjoyment, this is a punishable offense if done intentionally without good reason. If you want to kill them, get off the island and go to their land." If either party drop, they're up for grabs (creature = get a new human, human = get a new owner).

There are no guidelines on the characters you may create. You can have cruel creatures or kind ones, obedient humans or the opposite, and creatures who want nothing to do with this whole thing, maybe even trying to undo it or set them free. The only rule is they must be 18 or older.

Questions

Do humans know of the existence of nonhumans previously?
Most do not, only a small select few who have experienced something in the past may, such as people who've decided to become hunters.

Why are the creatures inviting humans, exactly?
Boredom, excitement, a change of pace, curiosity; the reasons vary from creature to creature. Maybe a reaper has only ever interacted with dead ones and wants to see one full of life outside their job, or the centuries old demon is tired of arguing with the neighbor next door and wants something new to play with, so on.

What is life like on the island?
The whole place seems to have a proper environment and economy, people work jobs for currency to then buy from the stores around the place, food, water, and things of that nature. While they are mostly self-sufficient, certain things are brought to the island by the owner (or any other flying creature or person with teleportation) upon request, such as certain clothes, provided that they can pay the fee for it. Otherwise, they have a lot of things that normal cities do, including a movie theater and a modern-day arcade with up-to-date gaming consoles, that allows everyone to come together to enjoy the experience without shelling out the costs to the island owner to get their own for their house (since things on their island tend to be much cheaper, making saving up for something like that difficult). They also have internet and data. There are cafes, restaurants, libraries, and much more. Feel free to play the host to any establishment and make up your own, the only unplayable character is the island/"hotel" owner.

In character, how would one creature know that a human has been claimed?
Depending on the abilities of said character - there's a sort of spell that works for each to be able to identify. Wolves will be able to smell it, not their owner's scent, but just that they have been chosen. Angels or other things that can sense auras will be able to "see" it. You can apply what you'd like that fits!

What is stopping the humans from escaping?
Why, the creatures of course! Also an ocean, but there are boats and things they can find. Still, it's a little harder than just running.

Art or real face claims?
I haven't decided yet, I will go with whichever is most popular.

Gardsorm

Well, the idea certainly sounds fun enough. ^^ I'll throw my hat in, though preference leans more to art than real faceclaims, honestly.

Kissa

I'm interested. I have some questions too : )

Is this the first time they bring humans to island to be slaves for the monsters?

Are there monsters somewhere else on the world too and do monster on the island know of them?

How do monsters get their slaves? Is it free to all occasion in the hotel where monster go grab their own slaves or how does the acquisition of a slave happen?
