“Everybody in the League is good at their job, but those seven? They're the best ever. Not because they're the most powerful - they aren't. Not all of them. And it's not just because they were the first. It's because they're special. They've proven it time and again. They make the hard choices, they set the example. They do what's right, not what's easiest. And they always come out on top. They're gonna be okay, Kara. We all are.”

Superheroes.

The very word makes you spine tingle doesn’t it? Larger than life figures who swoop in to save the day, cultural forces who define the character of cities, and battle monsters that mortals can scarcely conceive of.

Heroes. Demigods. Gods among men.

This is the world of Gotham and Metropolis, of Keystone City and Themyscira, yet it is not just their world. It is also The World, a place where the old Gods never when away and are still worshiped in shrines and alleys. In the World, the Gods sometimes walk among humanity, leaving offspring in their wake. These offspring are Scions… or to put it another way: a superhero (or villain) waiting to happen.

You are a Scion, although you might not know it yet. You are the Gods’ child or their chosen, and while you aren’t a superhero yet, you will be.

This is your origin story.

The Basics
Setting: This game is a crossover between the DC Universe and Scion where all superheroes and supervillains in the DC Universe are in one way or another Scions of the Gods or Titans. In the past, bands of Scions worked together to take on threats, but they have never coordinated on a large scale. That is going to change. You don’t know it yet, but it is about to change with you. You don’t even know you are a Scion yet, but Fate weaves its strands around you, forming something new.

That something is the Justice League.

Game System: Scion Second Edition
Background: Each character is a hero from the DC Universe, filtered through the lens of Scion. That means they are linked to the Gods in some way, shape, or form. You can pick any Hero in the DC universe as long as they are the appropriate age. Heroic interpretations of villains are also fair game.
Level: Characters start at Origin (Legend 0)
Pantheons: Any in the 2e Core (Æsir, Deva, Kami, Manitou, Netjer, Óríshá, Shén, Teōtl, Theoi, Thuatha Dé Danann). You can approach me with other deities from the Pantheons and I may say yes or no based on how much time I have and how obscure they are. They may also be an aspect of another God already in the pantheon, in which case I will point you that way.
Age: 21+, no exceptions. Aka: Nightwing is okay, Shazam not so much.

Expectations
Regular Posting: Shit happens, so I try not to be a tyrant about post rates, but please commit to posting twice a week. A number of my games a stalled out recently simply because people stopped interacting. I will do everything I can to prevent that from my end, but I believe it will help if you can commit to all least twice weekly. If extenuating circumstances make that untenable once the game is underway, talk to me and we’ll work something out, just please don’t vanish with no notice.

Cooperative Play
: Basically, don’t be a dick. Don’t troll other people or start fights. We are all here to have fun. Me having to play peacekeeper is anti-fun.

Open-Mindedness: This game is open to all orientations and genders. I’m a cis-het male, so I can’t promise I’ll get everything right, but I’m always open to talking and learning more. I just ask everyone to bring that open-mindedness.

Communication: Talk to me (and each other). Let me know what you’d like to see/experience. If there is something you’d like to see or is killing your buzz, let me know. If something uncomfortable comes up and you need the scene to end, please tell me.

Rating
Bondage Exotic. If a scene becomes uncomfortable for any reason, you can X-card out and we will move on, no questions asked.

FYIs

  • I try to post frequently and give enough detail for players to respond to, but I am aware that I generally write less than other GMs. I’m being open and front about this so that everyone knows that this is a product of how slow I compose rather than a lack of interest on the GM’s side. On my side, I’m going to try to combat those shorter posts by using speech to text software more frequently with this game. I’m also on E! To improve my writing, so I’m totally open to suggestions.
  • Non-con and anything involving teenagers are very, very hard limits for me.

FAQ
Sooooo... what's the plot?
I haven't nailed it down yet since I need to know who the heroes are first. While you are working on character sheets, I will be crafting a story.

Can I play if I’ve never played Scion before?
Absolutely! If you want to take a look at core rules, you can find them here.

What books do we need?
The only book you need at this point is Scion: Origin.

The Pantheon Skills for the Kami are different in Origin and Hero. Which is correct?
Culture and Persuasion are the correct Path Skills for the Kami.

Why superheroes instead of regular scions?
Because superheroes are modern mythology, so it seems to be appropriate to have a game blending the two. The DC heroes in particular have some mythic, archetypal themes going for them. There’s a reason Injustice’s tagline was “Gods Among Us.”

Also, I’m hoping to entice people who haven’t played Scion before to check it out and the DC Universe gives a nice popular touchstone for people to build off of. And DC has been getting its butt whooped lately, so it might be nice to focus on them.

What’s our power level like?

So we are playing Origin, so your character's are a cut above regular humans, but they aren’t tossing lightning bolts yet. This is Batman at the start of his crime-fighting career, Superman as his powers develop, and Hal Jordan before the ring chose him.

Do we have to play characters from the first generation of the Justice League?
Heck no! We are telling a new story, so we can use new heroes!

How does Scion work with characters like Batman whose parents are known and/or who are badass because they are bog-standard humans?
Scions aren’t just born, they can also be chosen and that would definitely be the case for Bruce. As for magic powers, even though we don’t start with them initially, they will show up over time, so some characters may differ from their traditional power sets.

What if multiple people want to play the same hero?
Get creative! For example, Wonder Woman has been portrayed as a Created Scion, the child of Zeus, the child of Ares, and (maybe) the child of Hades in the past. That’s four potential characters right there, each a different person claiming the title of Wonder Woman.

Scion is urban fantasy, so are there Sci-Fi elements like aliens?
I’m not sure yet. I don’t want to cut off classical backstories Superman and Green Lantern, but I also think it would be interesting to reinterpret those characters in a world where Gods and Magic replace the Sci-Fi elements. Let me know what you think and go with what will make a good story!

The Application
Players: 3-5 players, as selected by me.
What You Need: A character sheet that’s at least 90% done, including picture and background. The latter does not need to be super extensive, however.
When you need it by: I will be picking characters on July 1st
