It is often said that once you are in power, you become even more power hungry. It was no different for the king of the West. He had risen to power at a young age, slaughtered the current king and stolen the throne. In the years since he waged many wars and won. He was young, fearless and power hungry, and he was feared by many. The king of the East felt the pressure of the West's advances and upon meeting with Western king, granted him a maiden of his choosing in exchange for the safety of his kingdom. He had everything he wanted, a harem full of women, riches and power, why would he want more women when he could just steal them? While on a tour of the Eastern lands, he spotted the most beautiful gem he had ever seen and decided to take the Eastern king's offer. She would not be an easy conquest, but he loved a challenge.

They had been quite close as children; his father had sent him to live with his uncle for some time to keep him safe. He spent his days with his cousin, learning and playing. Tragedy struck and he was required to return home and assume his role as the new future king. Years later, he married and unfortunately lost his wife and child in an instant. He changed, became cold, distant, a ruthless king. While visiting his uncle, he was reminded of his love for his cousin. Being king of all the lands, he would not be denied!

But he could often hear the yelling and he'd often catch glimpses through the curtains. He knew her husband was abusive but there was really nothing he could do, it was none of his business, right? Yet, he could not help but feel drawn to her, to want to protect her somehow.
