Less high-magic D&D or OSR (with some smut)?

I love D&D and games like it, and I love playing them on sites like this.  Thing is, so many of the D&D games I see offered around here are either in published settings like the Forgotten Realms or Golarion, or original settings that mimic some things about them that aren't really to my taste.  I like magic and fantastical stuff as much as anyone, but I really like to see it in worlds where it's rare and special, not something people deal with every day--if every village farmer knows about clerics who can perform miracles and sees wizards passing through town every month, it starts to feel a little pedestrian.  So, I'm wondering if anyone's up for running a game in a setting that addresses some of these concerns, one that keeps the supernatural more in the realm of the weird and exceptional, where adventurers like the PCs deal with stuff that most people dismiss as just stories.

Of course, this is Elliquiy, and I'd love to see some smut in this game too.  Possibly the world and local culture could be more sexually open (though I'd prefer it not go all the way in that direction, like with people walking around naked everywhere and public sex being totally commonplace), or possibly the PCs could just run into sexual situations in some encounters while the rest of the world is normal.  Personally, I'm not looking for non-con or for monsters to want to fuck the PCs after defeating them, at least not as a typical thing (or rather, if there are monsters that try, I don't want them to succeed); though, things like bargaining sex with a monster in exchange for safe passage are fine by me.

I'd be fine with this being a D&D 5e game, preferably no higher than 4th level or so to start with; alternatively, I'd be totally up for an old-school OD&D, AD&D 1e, AD&D 2e, or OSR game (Lamentations of the Flame Princess is my personal favorite system for such things).

Let me know if this is something you want to do, either as a DM or a player!

D&D is built on the assumption of High Fantasy.  In my biased opinion, it never really works well for low magic settings.  Magic wielding classes (which is most of them) get nerfed.  I am have not had a lot of experience with 5th to see if it can work, but I suspect it will suffer the same issue.

You can have a less high-magic setting (not even low-magic, necessarily, just less silly than most of the published stuff) without changing the player characters at all.  It just means they're even more exceptional, wielding magic in a world where it's extremely rare.  The only way a lower-magic world needs to affect the PCs is in a greater rarity of magic items, and with the way 5e is balanced, it's perfectly viable to play a non-casting class with no magic items at all.

Anyway, if you're not interested in playing or running the game, I'm not sure why you're taking the time and energy to criticize the concept.

MasterMischief

Oh I am terribly sorry if I came off as criticizing the concept.  I really enjoy Low Fantasy.  I just think D&D is not the best choice to pull it off.  I have done some great Low Fantasy campaigns with G.U.R.P.S. and was in a short lived campaign using Hero System.  I wish that one had lasted longer because not only was it low magic, but very early Middle Age tech...we didn't even have stirrups.

Well, if you're interested in running something like this in a non-D&D or OSR system, I'd consider picking up a new game of your choice.  Though I don't think I'd want to go quite as gritty as what that one campaign sounds like, since I'm not sure how I'd feel about throwing smut into an almost-exactly-historical setting like that.  But I'm sure we could find a happy middle ground :-)

If you find someone who'd run 2nd edition along these lines i'd love the opportunity to play.  :)
