The Reluctant Master (Dom M seeking Sub F)

I'm returning to E after a few-month hiatus and thought I'd try this story again as part of my return.  A lot of the character backgrounds have been set already, kind of a necessity for setting up the exact situation, but where the story then goes is pretty open.

Quite some time in the future...

Xander Davos is 27, an independent cargo hauler who takes jobs as he gets them, and enjoys the freedom and solitude.  Think of him as something like a modern day 18-wheeler driver, just roaming the known galaxy, taking things from here to there, getting paid, then taking more things.  It's a simple, solitary life, but it's uncomplicated.  Until a woman complicates it.

Vera Altriden, 22, is the youngest child and only daughter of Gregor Altriden, the ruler of Kharatov, a prosperous farming planet, culturally derived from the Russians of old Earth.  Gregor always had plans to marry Vera off, not really accepting that women had an equal place in society as men and, while he truly loved his daughter, could only see her place in the world as a political tool.  Vera, on the other hand, had other plans.  She was something of a book worm, spending her days engrossed in learning, everything and anything that she could.  Despite her father's protests, she had little interest in men, not yet anyway, and only sought knowledge.  This didn't stop multiple suitors from trying, however, although they mostly were only interested in her unparalleled beauty, rather than her intelligence. 

For reasons that are not immediately revealed, Vera is kidnapped by the Xi-Kwon Cartel, an infamous slave-trading gang, usually dealing in sex slaves.  In Vera's case, she is taken and manipulated, both with microscopic neural surgery and brainwashing.  She is, over the course of a few weeks, altered, turned into a willing sex slave, to be delivered to an unknown buyer. There is a quirk to her conditioning though: her "master" is not revealed to her.  Instead, she is programmed to believe that the first person she sees after waking from cryosleep is her new owner.

Unknown to him, Xander is contracted to carry Vera on part of her journey to her new owner, as she still sleeps in a coffin-like cryotube.  A minor accident on the ship causes power loss to the tube, and its failsafe is to open and start to wake the occupant.  As he checks his cargo, Xander is shocked to discover the naked, sleepy young woman.  As she wakes, Vera latches onto Xander, thinking that he is her new owner.  Xander rejects this idea, and soon finds that Vera is conditioned in such a way that rejection from her master is both physically and emotionally painful, horribly so, especially the longer it goes on.  After time, Xander is stuck with a choice: does he try to do the "right thing" by not taking advantage of a woman who can't really make the decision to be with him or not, or try to relieve her pain in the only way that is possible?
