Getting dropped by Telnet

     So in my continuing quest to use a certain talker...  After relocating, I am finding that the telnet software keeps disconnecting me when I'm inactive for a few minutes.  It also sometimes refuses to reconnect to the site for quite some minutes.  I didn't have this issue before, using the same client (Simple MU, but the same problems can occur with Windows built-in Telnet). 

    Is there some way to keep telnet awake without constantly typing?  I read that there used to be scripts to do this, but I'm not sure what the current version is or how to do it exactly.
