ORIGINS & CONNECTIONS

• Background: Harriette was born and raised in Dustveil to the Braithwaite family. Despite being seen as little more than a young girl, he showed an interest in the family's less-than-savoury dealings from a young age. His parents encouraged this interest, bringing him into the fold as soon as they could. Initially, Harriette was involved in the periphery of family dealings, balancing accounting and handling small transactions. Soon enough, though, Harriette was getting his hands dirty alongside the rest of the Braithwaites. He began accompanying older family members on jobs, handling larger transactions, and occasionally conducting drop-offs and exchanges. It seemed that running drugs and human cargo came as naturally to Harriette as breathing, and oftentimes, he simply saw those he traded as assets. This indifference made Harriette a successful member of the Braithwaite family, and his frequent dealings with the Coulter gang brought him success in his personal life as well, in the form of his fiancée, Oliver Evans.
  
  This next step in their relationship turned out to be the turning point in Harriette's life. His relationship made him see others' relationships in a new light, including those whose lives he'd dismantled in the name of the family business. As he took part in separating other lovers, often killing one and selling the other, he could no longer help but envisage his own relationship being torn apart. With those visions swirling in his head, it wasn't long before he realized he could no longer bear to be the kind of person who would inflict that pain. But he couldn't just stop participating in the family business.
  
  In secret, Harriette concocted a plan to escape. He was too afraid to bring Oliver into it, though, not wanting to bring harm to the man if things went wrong. On his next solo job, Harriette made sure things went wrong. He "accidentally" gave the person he was transporting the means and opportunity to escape, and let them win when they fought back, making sure to put up just enough of a fight to make the charade convincing if there was an investigation. When they left Harriette wounded on the ground, Harriette took off. He cut his long hair, got rid of his feminine clothes and stole masculine ones, disgusting and renaming himself Emil Hensley. At first, it was just as a disguise, but it didn't take long for him to realize he was more comfortable and more himself as Emil than he'd ever been as Harriett. And so Harriett became Emil, and if he has his way, he'd only be Emil from this point on.

  Coulter Gang: Once had close ties, now Emil is hiding from them. His estranged fiancée was a member.
  Adler Family: Emil never dealt with them personally, but he knows they've made purchases from the Braithwaites before.
  Braithwaite Family: Once, Emil was a loyal family member, but now he's on the run from them. One doesn't leave the Braithwaites without consequences after all.
  Natives: Nothing in particular, they've played both the customer and the victim in Emil's life.
