I had an idea for a game but I don’t have too much yet, so I’ll just see if there’s any interest.

In the old days, when someone wanted something they couldn’t afford like passage to America, they could end up in indentured servitude where they were expected to pay off the debt over seven years.  I know various forms exist but keeping it simple.

Imagine an alternative reality (present day, more or less) where people who couldn’t afford some major expenditure (college, health expenses, etc.) may end up indentured for some period of time.  Their basic needs would need to be met, and some may have better contracts written up than others stipulating what can and cannot be done with them.

The main character types would either be those who have accepted being indentured or the exceptionally wealthy who hold their contracts, though the game wouldn’t be limited to such if people had other ideas.

I also envision a social media thread for various people to ensure the game doesn’t end up with people just pairing off and never meeting others.

Does this sound interesting to anyone?

Would this be only humans and irl people faceclaims or would it be alternative reality in the sense that there are fantasy races and fc can be art?

I think it would good idea to keep it open to more than the ones being in servitude and those making them serve in case there are players who want to do more.

My initial idea was to just make it an ordinary Earth with the change of indentured servitude still being legal, but if everyone would rather a fantasy world, that can easily be arranged.

Zero issue with art for pictures.

As far as keeping it open to more, not certain what you mean.

Sounds good : )

Sorry. I must have worded it poorly. I meant that if players want to make their own stories or encounters that aren't centered around the indenture service, they would be allowed to do so.

AndyZ

Oh sure.  I’m not sure how much the GM would focus on assisting those stories, but I’d expect PCs to have various stories going on, not the least of which being why they need the money.  (A simple version would be someone who just finished off college, but medical bills for self or family would be another, and there’s plenty more.)

I definitely think this could be interesting. First idea is a young man sent to college on a rich lady’s dime and she keeps trying to keep him under her thumb while he’s desperately trying to find ways out.

Charging him more money for accidents or things she actually did, say he can lessen his debt for “favors,” stuff like that. Could spin to him trying to escape or maybe coming to love it

AndyZ

Welcome.  Hopefully we get a bunch of interest.

I'm definitely interested as long as the setting permits playing a fox lady : )

Think it could be fun. If it is such a setting, which side of the dynamic would you play?

Kissa

I'm tilting more in the direction of playing the one with the money and power : p But if there is going to be lack of servants, it shouldn't be a problem to rp that.

AndyZ

It doesn’t look like we’ll get more, so if you two want to set something up together, I have no objection.

As it's just us three at the moment, I would rather continue waiting so it's at least four players. Perhaps bump the interest check some time later and hope it will have better luck then.
