Ten years ago, after the first “Gate” that connected the real world with the monster world opened Europe and its military took five days to repel the threat, which lay within the portal with massive casualties before it faded away. One day some of the ordinary, everyday people received the power to hunt monsters within the Gate. They are known as "Hunters" Humans who possess mysterious magical abilities. Even the weakest Hunters have slightly abnormal strength and regeneration compared to ordinary people. After a few years, hunters learned that when a Gate is defeated, there are several hours before it destabilizes entirely without a trace, so collecting the remains of monsters, weapons, or other oddities which could be sold or used for money. Many found this to be more like some game though the threat of losing your life was incredibly likely. Hunters formed organizations or Guilds which, if enough members gathered, the danger they could rival a countries government was apparent and soon heavily regulated so a threat like that could never happen.

Each country agreed that its government could establish only one Organization, yet smaller guilds were allowed as long as they were affiliated with said organization. Hunters were given ranks gauging from E Rank (weakest) to S-Rank(Strongest), while those who gained fame due to their rank others at the bottom lived ordinary lives though still being tasked to complete the dungeons which resided within each gate. The severity of these gates reared its ugly head in North Korea. A Gate appeared in a hidden place and went unnoticed until it was too late. After seven days, a 'Dungeon Break' occurred, and the magic beasts freely left the dungeon and entered into Earth's domain. The military was deployed to contain the to buy time before the Hunters to arrive. Of course, the weapons of the army did not work on the magic beasts. Yet they still fought to the best of their abilities; to protect the citizens and provide time for their escape, someone had to be the sacrifice. As such, the military bravely stood up and became meat shields.

Even with its best efforts, North Korea became uninhabitable four years ago. The Dungeon Break of N.Korea had become the only country in the world to lose any of its lands to magic creatures. While many countries openly expressed sympathy, inwardly, they laughed at the apparent incompetence of Korean hunters. When all three reclamation operations failed, the criticism reached its peak.

Like that, two years of humiliation they were passed.

It was then announced that the four organizations' operation would be a joint task force comprised of Japanese, American, European, and Russian hunters. Some skeptical voices around the world suggested that even with the combined help, they wouldn't be able to exterminate the magic creatures properly. But then Twenty of the "Mighty S-rank hunters" had died or fled the raid. Resorting to containing the threat magic casters came together to form a barrier that caused the monsters to be unable to find a stable source of food, and the beasts turned to cannibalism.

A new guild has opened up in America looking for those looking to make something of themselves while being paid for each Gate they clear. It's here where most of your stories will start and for the unfortunate where it will end as well. Are you willing to see where this venture takes you?

So its been a while since I created a game or attempted to make one as I was burned out and figured why the hell not and typed this out of the blue. The reason was due to the lack of 'interesting' games out there currently. Yes, I know that sounds harsh, but the time I've been away much of the games I've seen look rather bland though it's my own opinion and no one else's. So what am I lookin' for you might be thinking? First off, this is just an interest check, so I don't waste my time if no one is even remotely interested in playing. If you got any questions, here is the place to ask, and I'll answer them here. If I get a total of at least six people, I'll move on to the next step.

Initially, it was a coin flip on if I wanted it to be a system game or freeform, but I'm settling on something more freeform since as your character will go through changes shedding the simple Fighter, Caster, and Healer archetypes into something more.

Fair enough. I am bookmarking this and will put an interest in. :3

LeSane

Well that's about one-third of the interest and I'm happy to see there are a few who find it appealing.

So how do Hunters gain their magical abilities? Was there a surge of magic when the first Gate opened, or have there always been magically-empowered humans on Earth but their existence has been kept secret?

So from what I read, a Gate opens to grant access to a dungeon which Hunters have to enter to shut down (maybe the dungeon has some sort of a 'core' which needs to be destroyed by the Hunters to close the Gate?) If they don't succeed in a certain time then the dungeon becomes permanent (a 'Dungeon Break' ) and the monsters can break out into the real world, as happened in North Korea. Is that right?

How is it determined which powers a Hunter will get? Is it based on a person's past, their mindset, or something else? You mentioned that characters go through changes and grow out of the Fighter/Caster/Healer archetypes - does that mean that they are stuck with fixed archetypes at the start, or is there some sort of customisation?

The first post mentioned weapons, the remains of monsters and other 'oddities' were sold on the open market - are there classes or Hunters who can make magical items or weapons? Are the world's governments researching history and legends to see if magic worked in the past, like Norse runes etc?

LeSane

Alright, let's go down the line of questions here so I can answer them. Lemme see...

There weren't any magical empowered humans before the Gate. People were chosen at random by a force unannounced to them be it some deity or what have you. Most people don't think about where it came from beyond its a chance to do protect their home, make a name for themselves, etc. (There will be some background which will be revealed as the game goes on, however.)

Next on the list of questions.

The gate is not permanent monsters can leave after seven days of a gate not being closed. Those monsters essentially are making a footing onto the world and are just as real as the characters are in a sense.

Moving on.

Well, you start off with four classes Fighter, Ranger, Caster, and Healer. How your character is selected is unknown to them. Yet, due to how much time has passed the government has found ways to tell what your character ability is via a test.

When I talked about growing out of that archetype imagine any MMO/RPG game where you start off as some basic/default state. After honing your skills you can more or less know what you are good at. (I don't wanna ruin the surprise too much but it's kind of fixed within reason though enough wiggle room.)

Yes, there are classes that can make armor and weapons though not something you can do at the start. If you look at this in the viewing of the Monster Hunter series it will make more sense.

**-Slithers out-**

I would be considered 100% lying if I said this didn't interest me in the slightest (freeform alone had me, then the sething and setup adied to it). However, I feel I should ask before I raise my hopes too much: Are we using real FCs or anime/animation/what have you FCs and the like?

LeSane

Honestly, I've never been keen on using real face claims for characters. Anime/Drawn media are preferred though, please if someone is going to run a female character please do a little bit of research if you're using one that's from a show. If there isn't any way to tell just use your best judgment.

I'm well aware of how some characters look young but are older so I'm not going to babysit anyone who can justify it.

LeSane

So since I got some interest in quicker then I had originally anticipated I'll work on the recruitment thread and do some world building on the side.

Also putting in my interest. I need to get the rust off my writing muscles, and this seems pretty fun.
