The Monkey King and The Celestial Daughter
Rank. light, human   ☆☆☆

The Messengers were a race of nimble deities that traversed the three realms with their three pairs of emblematic wings, serving as the emissaries of Heaven and the heralds of its Gods. Once a Messenger has exhausted their duty, they are then honored with divine reincarnation and a permanent place in the golden afterlife. However, long ago, a great sin was committed against Heaven. A spurned God in league with scheming demons shifted blame onto the messengers, but their pleas of innocence fell on deaf ears, leaving the Buddha to cast them out of paradise, stripping them of their immortality, and denying them access to the afterlife. Their powers weakened with their mortality, but unbeknownst to the pantheon of earth deities, one messenger was with child.

Ying Yue is the demi-god daughter of a mortal monk and a messenger deity. She was unaffected by the curse of the Buddha and was born with her abilities intact and ever growing, but as her people aged and died, she remained until she was the last of the messengers. Wandering China as a nomad, she seeks redemption for her fallen people. Her powers are used to help those in need and to seek the truth behind the incident that turned heaven against the messengers. Her disdain for the Gods is clear, but when her journey leads her to the Great Sage and his companions, it is if fate has finally given her the opportunity to right the wrongs of the past.

However, war is on the horizon. Demons of chaos threaten the land and plunder its villages under the Demon King Yohai's command. He is aided by one of the gods of Heaven with the intent to overthrow the Buddha and take his place. It is up to Ying Yue and her band of unlikely heroes to thwart evil, but it won't be easy. Before fighting evil demons, she must first conquer the overconfident Sun Wukong whose whole purpose in life seems to be to annoy her at every turn. Can she tame the wild Monkey King and reclaim her rightful place in Heaven?
