I could see us getting a lot of fun out of her good naturedly trying to explain in an unintentionally patronising way simple ideas.
"This is like a tooth-brush.... You had those right?... But there is a little motor in it to help bit bits of food out and a tiny computer- that's like a machine that does counting for you that can tell if you're pressing too hard on the gums. It's fun! Give it a try!"

PJ holds up a willow stick with a chewed soft end and a pinch of salt.  "Okay, but you get to try this."

Rowan carefully hides his standard, non-smart, non-computerized nylon-filamented thermoplastic toothbrush and sneaks around to the far side of the V-150 to brush his teeth in a safe and sane manner.

This is going to be a hoot.

Rowan may have to work at not trying to wind her up occasionally. "Hey, Sarah, tell me about this 'toilet paper' stuff again? Well, what do you do with all your corn cobs?"

Since I can see PJ and Rowan knowing each other before going in the tube, he'd know these things about her.  It's all open to refinement, just trying to set up their belief Venn diagram.

PJ's father was a Navy Corpsman in the last two years of WWII and was involuntarily recalled to serve in Korea.  Like many vets in that situation he felt he'd done his part and resented being called up for a war that the US didn't seem to have the will to fight to win.  The moment he was released, for the second time, from active duty he retreated into the mountains of Colorado with his wife and began to live off the land.  From him PJ has picked up a patriotism for her country just not necessarily for weak willed leaders unwilling to do the hard things.  This is another reason why she was inclined to join TMP.

PJ never attended public schools and has never really been exposed to pop culture.  Even radio reception where they live is spotty at best so she's not into music.  They get their news from their once or twice a month visits to the city (population 300) and pick up mail and newspapers.  Because of how they live she has a frontierswoman attitude towards life and relationships.  The man's in charge but the women turn their hand to any work necessary to get by.  There's no 'man only' jobs in her experience, just ones where her dad's strength and expertise allow him to be better at it.  She learned to hunt, fish, trap, and backwoods survive from him and honed it living rough.  The Jamisons use modern (up to 1979) medical care and such but they prefer to live simple.

She views Vietnam the way her dad does.  It was a mistake to get involved and then not have the will to carry things through to the end.  To not stand up to the forces of evil and to let good American boys die for what her father considers nothing.  Draft dodgers; that's tricky.  Her dad understands why they'd do it but there's no love for them despite of it.  PJ would respect Rowan's service and be sympathetic to his disillusionment - but it's not her disillusionment.  She's not very political, she doesn't get involved in causes or trends or fads.  Not when there is the majesty of the world around her and God in Heaven above.  She's very religious but quiet about it.

One thing that hasn't happened much to PJ; she's never been around black folks.  She's seen some but living apart as they do there hasn't been much chance to interact with them.  She is familiar with Mexicans; many of the sheepherders who use the National Forests around her for grazing during the spring and summer know her and she knows them.  Piper doesn't mind trading them store bought candy bars and liquor and other luxury items to them for fresh sourdough bread or a sheep or two to add variety to the Jamison diet.  Sometimes the girl and her dog just go with the herds for a few days or even weeks.  PJ also helps them guard the flocks and hunt down especially pesky predators.

Sexually she wasn't at all experienced prior to joining TMP.  I haven't entirely decided if she is by the time we go into the tubes or not.  I'm not sure how much it matters but it would be a big deal for her and she's likely very demisexual.  Or maybe better if and when she does have sex with someone she's going to imprint almost and expect the deep emotional relationship she feels to be reciprocated.

She'll be pretty fascinated by Rowan's travels during his time in the Corps and during his work abroad.  He'll learn from her that she has a decade long pen-pal friendship with a girl just a little younger than her who lives in Delhi, the daughter of a British ex-pat, and another with a boy who lived in Alexandria.  Egypt not any of the many other places named that.  He is now a young chemical engineer working for Coca-Cola in Houston, TX.

Piper does hate seeing land taken for commercial development, extensive mega-farming or ranching, or just plain spoiled by people with short-sighted imaginations.  Despite that she's never been radicalized by any of the environmental groups both because of her isolation and the fact they'd see her hunting and trapping as anathema.

Oh, and of course there's Brutus.  Girl and dog are seemingly inseparable and they sleep together even during TMP training and living.  In fact during training some of the others took to calling her Elly May for her affinity with 'critters'.

Mister Ugly

Wow I go fishing and you guys just explode in background and ideas.

MU, it'd probably be cool to know a bit more about our 4th team member, too, while we're thinking about dynamics and different viewpoints and stuff.
In this case the NPC is an unknown to you all. I have my reasons and he will be there to support your team as well as have a mission himself!

To answer the question on when the last were tubed.  Strangily the last teams had finished training with no more in the pipe line by 1st of October 2020. And tubed with in 5 days after that. IN fact during September 2020 TMP seemed to fold in on itself and training was pushed hard to get done!

@Void, if you or the others want to age your character then by all means. I would prefer no older then mid 40s.

Yes it would be amusing trying to explain a tablet/laptop to PJ and Rowan or the smart phones your all can have that would use the V-150 as a hot spot up to a couple of miles.

a Bit of history near the end.
The country had divided even more then now. Donald Trump had been challenged for the Repubilcan nomination and was way behind in delegates when the rebulbican convention came up. In the far east China had had a hard line change and pushed into the south china sea and the sea of Japan. Martial law was called by the president on October 3 2020. It was challenged in the courts and there was a near mutiny within many states as they refused to allow national guard units to deploy.

On October, 12th 2020 Russia forces invaded the Ukraine enmass. In the South China Sea, The US Carrier strike group 'Ronald Reagan' was in almost constant contact with Chinese surface and submarine forces as well as having numerous near crashes of aircraft. North Korea after 2 more rocket tests in late 2019 defied Trump's promise, to claim they had successifuly mated a nuclear warhead to a missile and was demanding the US surrender and withdraw from Korea. [fact the Korean war is techincally only a ceasefire]

That should be enough to help define Voids character!

Extreme Small does give us the most options, we don't nessecarily have to use them but they are there.
I was more thinking her age the other way, perhaps about 22, maybe not have formally finished all the training, though she did start much earlier.

For her part, I imagine her doing a bit of eye rolling at nationalism and patriotism, she's in the project for the species and likely sees rampant factionalism as a force that destroyed the world. Not wanting to be a hypocrit though she will be willing to listen to a spirited defence of being a good patriot, she's likely to have a special burning hatred for demagogues. Thinking that yes October 12th is probably going to be her tube day, waving a misty eyed goodbye to her family and exchanging hopes that all this madness blows over and they'll thaw her a year or two down the line It'll be fiiiiine- "
She's an optimistic idealist that is likely going to roll up her sleeves and try not to think too hard about the terrible situation they're in

I expect she might share having low key faith with PJ and shall find her dog adorable, least until it bites her.

She's likely to take a little while I think to warm up to Rowan, but respects his convictions and the humanitarian front.

I suppose the question would be- why would she be inserted so far out of time, when pod groups usually train together?

Chanticleer

Too much reality there, chief! Scarily believable. :6

Not 100% sure but I believe the Korean ceasefire is the longest in recorded history.

Hey, if the V150 is powered by a microfusion plant, is it quieter? I mean, there's limits to how quiet you can make something with wheels that big, and that heavy, on different terrain...But I imagine it doesn't have that diesel roar?

Extreme Small Groups sounds good to me.

On the faith thing...It's been said that there are no atheists in foxholes. Pocket bibles were a highly desirable thing for soldiers during Nam (I wonder if that holds true for Desert Storm 1/2 and our recent occupations?). I believe Rowan would say that he has faith, but he doesn't identify as part of any religion.

@Void, The last tubing was done between the 2nd and the 6th of October. Sorry thought I had made that clear when I said 'no more in the pipe line by 1st of October 2020. And tubed with in 5 days after that'  ;) which means TMP was shutting down and digging in by the 7th-10th

I will live with your character being 22!

Do you think we might go ahead and have a character thread so we can better keep up with things?

Also, how was fishing?  What do you catch this time of year?  My dad likes to bass, trout, and saltwater fish so I have gone with him a lot although I'm more into seeing how much sunscreen I can wear and playing in the surf or walking the beach to find treasures.

Void, the contrast between world views is going to be very interesting!  I'm looking forward to it and to hearing a modern girl's take on things big and small.  Also, Brutus wouldn't bite Sarah unless PJ told her to or Sarah attacked PJ.  He's a big fluffy sweetheart!

Voidknight

@ Mr. Ugly - My bad sorry- yeah she'll have been one of the later ones I'm thinking certainly.

@Honeycrisp - Yeah we're all on the same side at the end of the day and I'm getting the impression that'll very much play out- just niggling details and all.
And yes he is! Yes he is!

@Chant- On the scarily believable front I remember maybe ten? Five to ten years back I was in a LARP, was a LARP based around festivals and downtimes between them and having come to a new world magic in this colonial era game magic was being discovered. My colony decided it would pay off it's debts and shortly thereafter discovered how to turn lead into gold. Over the course of two years they trained every single person in the country how to do this and tithed a quarter of the year to dedicatedly producing gold... Now this game had a fairly detailed background economy with multiple currencies and markets and- ... We crashed the economy. Hard. I think about a quarter of the 2000+ players of the game ragequit over being reminded of the reality at the time. Sorry for the storytime, just reminded me of that one with cackling glee.

Honeycrisp

You know, Void, I bet we could easily do that in TMP with the items we have for trade or our skills.  We'll have to be careful to avoid it and you should totally be the one to caution us on it - or to tell us how to do it if we think it needs to happen.

A link has been added to the first post!

I am working on an OOC link but i am added data all in one place there so it can be referenced as needed.

Yes and no. The reactor in the V150 isn't meant to power it forever...It has a limited lifespan. If we try to be a village's electrical resource it'll only last a few years. We've got limited ammunition and other supplies. Skills-wise...It depends. We're not likely to be dealing with cavemen. Some traditions, literature, and knowledge will have been passed on.

And the V150 isn't a 'tank.' Even if it was, one tank can only last so long if people really want to take it out. There's a reason why they usually move with infantry support...It's easy to be blind inside a metal box. Some explosives, a hole in the ground...Lots of ways to turn a tank into a bunker. And then you can eventually work your way up to the bunker using cover and turn the bunker into a barbecue.

It'd be a very bad idea to think we're 'gods walking among men,' with a vehicle that was built during the 1970s, then upgraded a bit later, some automatic weapons and some medicine and medical knowledge. It's a potent combination, sure, but it's unlikely that we're the only ones who have those things.

Could we improve the life of a few villages? Sure.

We are just starting the story and have room for at least one more.
Go to sleep now and wake up in a messed up world 150 years in the future. Can your character help rebuild? Can they survive?

Stop looking and start talking about joining.  Mister Ugly, the GM or ST or DM, is super friendly and helpful; something that can be said about all the players.  No knowledge of the rules is necessary - I'm proof of that!  Seriously good game in a post-apocalyptic setting and those are few and far between!

Mister Ugly

well I can say we DO NOT have zombies in this Post Apocalyptic. Or at least none the team knows of!  >:)

They were frozen and awoke 150 years after they were supposed too! And things suck!

Come check us out at the OOC!

You do NOT need to know the system I will help and I have 3 great writers but a couple of more players would be very helpful.

Drop by. Ask questions. Say hey!

Forget what you think you know about things. This is a Post Apocalyptic story and almost anything can be used. 150 years after the end.
I have open spots. Bring hope to the world. Take on nazi's and robots [just don't tell the current team about the robots]. Save the day!
I am to the point I can add in 'locals' instead of Morrow project members. Though an extra Morrow project person is great!
Come talk to us at https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=300442.0 the guys here will be thrilled to answer questions as will I.
Drop me a personal IM with Morrow Project header if you have questions.

Come be the light!

Hi!

I maybe interested. I am waiting on my laptop to properly charge so I can do more then skim on my phone. Lots of tiny text+smallish phone screen=hard time reading.

Anyways, I just wanted to stop by and let you know of my interest, say hi, and well, maybe mention the fact that I have no knowledge of the rules of the game.

Alrighty then! deep breath I will be back as soon as the laptop is up and runnin'.

Mister Ugly

NO Problem on knowing the system. no one but me did at start and really the system I am using is more for a guide then anything else so you know what your character can do. Drop on by OOC when you get your laptop charged it is listed in the first post or the one above the one you did. Say hi. read the ooc and ic thread and tell us what you think or like!

Hello RB,

System seems pretty straightforward so far, but as Mr. U said, we're not really using it as a major part of the game. It's mostly just writing, with the system there as a sort of an easy shorthand way to figure what different characters are capable of.
