I'm working  on creating an American Gods story for a group role play. Who's  interested?

Also I would like to brainstorm some story details involving character relations.

I would certainly be interested in this!

Wonderful!

I drafted up a story surrounding the relationship between Hera and Zeus and how it effects both gods and mortals. I would  love to include God's from  other pantheons too.

Its American Gods so where is the American the series needs a goddess of the American Dream for example? Or a goddess of War who rose to power IN America during the American Revolution and finally got the nation into a war that won't end on terror and even might get a proper war with North Korea? Or a goddess of skepticism and gains power as people don't believe in deities she liking the irony the more atheists there are the stronger she gets? Or an American Jesus Christ who is for prosperity, the American way of life and supports the religious right and politics in government?

Have fun with the whole idea.

Sirian Eve

Oooo thank you  Ruby.

I did plan on doing  something with old gods vs new gods.

A god of the American Dream sounds very interesting
Maybe a goddess of American justice who is blind?

Ideas are welcomed!
One of the things I have been interested in doing is a 'slice of (godlike) life' retelling of AG. So you have these immortal beings with supernatural abilities that are at the same time. Chernog is compelled to smash people's brains out with his hammer. Wednesday needs those virgins. Bilquis needs people to worship her with their bodies. They need worship. That's what the war is about, after all...there are only so many worshippers to go around, and as Technical Boy said, worship is a volume business. There is a lot of story potential there, just with them trying to make it in a world that doesn't care about them.

Another idea is that the characters we play are the children of these gods. You could either set the story in High School (16-18) or early college years. For whatever reason, a group of demigods (the children) are in a certain town, and they all start to manifest their powers around the same time. They don't know that they are demigods, and don't understand their abilities. They only know they have this need to be worshipped in whatever way their parental deity needed it. You could then introduce the characters to each other, a Big Bad (who is perhaps the reason all these demigods are in the same locale), and an authority who has an idea of what is going on and investigates supernatural cases.

In this way, it would be somewhat similar to Monsterhearts. You could even use the Storyteller tools to develop your story, with the Facing Threats and all that.

I like both those ideas. What if the story about the demi gods took place after the initial old gods vs new gods battle? What if neither sidwon and just agreed to a truce? Or what if the new gods won?

What if some old gods still had a chip on their shoulder. What if the new gods wanted to control this new generation of demi gods.

What if the truce included sanctions like the old gods could not parent their children, thus allowing them to be raised by mortals?

Well direct worship isn't needed in the series the goddess of the harvests simply moved over to being powered by Easter worship common among Christians and well even non-believers worship her indirectly when they enjoy Easter.

As for Jesus Christ there are a bunch of them each supported but some specific denomination or belief system strong enough to make one.

If we do the High School maybe we are just tapping into new dominions in some cases maybe not even from the parent at all but finding new dominions and they don't know or realize it until the child shows powers stronger than they should have.

Sirian Eve

I like idea of having them as young adults, right out of high school graduation and trying to find their purpose. In a small town in the middle of nowhere to start out would be nice.

I like what you said Ruby about them stumbling upon their dominions.

Hello!

Ooo I'm so glad this is getting more interest. I think we're on to something.

I was thinking about making Mr. World and Tech Dude the main antagonist in this story. However the introduction of new archetypes are always interesting.

UPDATE: Okay I think I am ready to start something. Thank you ladies.

One thing that wasn't touched on in either the book or the show is this idea that there are new Gods and old Gods, but what about native Gods? Like some Aztec or similar MFer who rips out hearts in his/her spare time and is ready to teach these Interlopers (old and new) a thing or two about being a god old school.

Keidance

Whiskey Jack is featured in the novel (and I believe in one of the one off related stories, but not by name) and is a Native American Trickster deity. In the show without spoiling anything flame eyed buffalo :) Also, Shadow being a blend of ethnicity's is to show the melting pot aspect that is the new normal now. It speaks that old/new are the new 'native' in so many ways, because culture has become a mixture on so many intricate levels, borrowing and interchanging with one another. At least that's what I took away from it.  I adore the idea of pulling some Aztec or Mayan god/goddess in. Almost as much as I would love to see an La Muerte/Santa Muerte come up as a 'new' goddess. (Oh I was already pondering that one. :P )

Dragongoddess

I'd be interested in this, though I've never seen or read AG before.
