A place of death and discovery. Fry Cry inspired setting. M for F

I'm absolutely fascinated by the concept of the later Far Cry games, where ordinary people are thrown into situations so incredibly extraordinary and trying to find the will to survive.  I've only played Far Cry 5, and it was amazing, but I don't need this to be set in that game.

The time, place, and reasons for the violence aren't set in stone and can be easily modified.  Are our characters both freedom fighters? Also up for discussion.

What I am looking for is a dark tale of two people being pushed to their absolute limits with only the bare trappings of civilization around them.  Can they find solace on each others arms, can they cling to anything hopeful in the storm of violence?

As for the fun side, I'm not looking for a snuff game or any kind of death to our characters.  NPCs can be mowed down like nooks, though . I'm not set on any sort of kink, so that's all negotiable.  I do crave a great story and world building and so much romance.  I'm a sap like that :)
