Cruelty, Crime, and Carnage

Genre: Contemporary; British Crime Drama
Inspiration: The Fall; Happy Valley; Luther

Concept:
There was nothing ordinary about the crime let alone the victim.  DCI Lauren Ellison had been murdered in her own home.  It was not the call in which her daughter expected from the Metro Police. It was just not expected. It was not comprehensible.

There would be an unexpected journey home—back to her mother’s house--back to northern England. Details of a life had to be sorted, a funeral arranged, and the privacy that DCI Ellison once had, it would become public. Everyone knew of DCI Ellison’s estrangement with her husband. Everyone knew why Caitlin left home. All families had difficulties, and all families had secrets...some are just better hidden than others.

It would be Caitlin’s Ex who would extend friendship to her in this troublesome time, their past ‘break up’ being a mutual decision; better friends they were than lovers, or at least nearly six years ago when work and education seemed to dominate their time. At least Caitlin would not feel alone, lost in a world she longed to forget.

But all things change with time. It is inevitable.

This is a story about an insufferable journey home …a place that ought to be secure, happy, full of love, but it is not. Caitlin will struggle to accept her mother’s death, to cope with emotions and a past that Caitlin thought was long buried, of family and small town secrets revealed…and somewhere there is an offender who is accountable for DCI Ellison’s murder. It is a tale about re-discovery, reconnecting, that occasionally one is given a second chance with love, and the limits one will go to for the truth.

Notes: Searching for a partner to write from the Caitlin ex’s perspective, and one who is willing to introduce NPC characters as well as collaborating on plot. The relationship between Caitlin and her ex can either be F/M or F/F. Themes that can be explored: question of morality and mortality; the legal system; secrets in small town; small town life; revenge, and anything sexual between the characters can be discussed.
