Hello and Welcome!! Black Sun Rising, or BSR, is a supernaturally based, player-driven story that will be taking place in the Tri-City area of Washington State.  It is set in the year 2017 and will follow a month by month format where one month of in-game time is equivalent to two months of real time.  After years of fighting and feuds, the war between vampires and werewolves has finally ground to a halt and for the first time in over a thousand years, vampires, werewolves, and witches are living in the same city.  While peace has come, it is an uneasy peace at best and conflict threatens to break out at any second, but at the same time, this has provided an opportunity for the different groups to become closer and end this conflict for good. Will war break out or will the Tri-Cities become the beacon for inter-species peace and prosperity?  You, the players, will determine their fate.




What is this game about?

Black Sun Rising is a player-driven supernatural game. Like stated above. We also wish to create an interesting and 'living' setting that changes with the players and even sometimes without them. The world will not be static and unmoving, and we hope to provide the chance for players not only to write their own personal plots but to get involved with the world itself. We shall be opening up several different supernatural 'races' for play, and hopefully giving enough background and potential hooks for players to dig their teeth into.

You as a writer will be able to write as a werewolf, a vampire, humans, ghouls and eventually even witches. It is up to you to be proactive in seeking connections, building plots between the players, and interacting with the world. We, of course, are more than willing to provide assistance, advice and even help with personal plots if we can.


FAQS


Is there a Story/Plot?:  Yes, and No. There is no over-arching plot that players will need to follow. We want our players to have plenty of freedom in creating their own plots, together with characters, and with the various groups. That being said, we have plans and ideas for what we call Plot Points - mini stories that are entirely optional for the players to pursue and potentially solve/get involved in. Again, I want to stress that these are entirely optional, and should there be no player interest, the GMS will resolve - move forward the mini plots through various methods until they reach a conclusion. Players can take notice of this progress through varies methods, media, newspaper, the late night news which will hint at a changing world.


How many characters can I have?: Right now, we are restricting players to THREE characters. You can play whatever you want, one from each of the groups you are interested in, or all in one group. We are however being careful on a player taking up more than one role of a ranked/leadership position to allow other writers the opportunity to express interest.


How are Alpha's and other leadership ranks chosen?: Because of the impact an Alpha, Clan Leader, etc can have on the group and the player's characters. We are going to be careful in who is allowed in those ranked positions. We will be looking for players who want to be proactive, social within the game and players, and who feel comfortable taking on an important position. As well as taking a good look at the concept/character being presented.


How will time work in this game?: Currently, our set up is 2 months IRL, to write a MONTH in the game. We will give two weeks notice of an upcoming change, and have a history thread for players.

GAME RULES

These rules are in place to maintain a civil and fun environment for players to relax and enjoy a beloved setting. This is a hobby, a fun way to escape for some, and thus I want to keep this as drama free as possible for the enjoyment of everyone.

Respect your fellow writers! We do not take kindly to disrespect, bullying or harassment of any kind. Bullying is the only rule that if violated, will result in immediate removal from the Game. Be kind. Do not harass other players in OOC or PMs.

1. Common Sense. - Use common sense when roleplaying your character, interacting with the world and dealing with other people. If you are in a room full of people and somebody starts screaming, it is logical that you will hear it. You do not live in a bubble, so don't write in one. Also, no God Modding. It's disrespectful.

2. In character vs. Out of character - If you cannot separate your characters from yourself, this isn't the place for you. Our characters are not us, and we are not our characters.

3. Comfort Levels.- Everyone has limits, soft and hard on content and what they are comfortable writing. In most cases, scenes tend to go where they will, but if there is something potentially BIG or that might touch on something a person won't be comfortable with - Ask that Player First. Please also keep in my a writers ON and Off's before approaching them with something.

4. Face Claims: When choosing a face for your character [ or Play-By's] we require that they be real people. No anime characters or realistic CG will be accepted or allowed.

5. Metagaming. Don't do it. Metagaming means taking advantage of what you, the player, know about game mechanics, plots, players, and characters. What you know and what your characters know are different. Your character's access to information is necessarily narrower than yours; don't abuse your personal knowledge to place your character in a better position. It's poor gamesmanship and just plain boring. No one loves someone who wins all the time.

6. Real world always comes first. Always.

7. Possessive Behavior, Incivility and Discrimination - Do not discriminate against players based on their sexuality, presented label, language, or self-identification. This is unacceptable and we do not mess around with this. Being possessive, controlling or otherwise jealous behavior toward another writer or their creations is not tolerated behavior and against E policies. Incivility toward the GM(s) and players will result in a reporting to the moderators, it goes against Elliquiy's ToS and will not be tolerated.

8. Group Scenes. If you are posting with more than one person, establish an order or keep in mind that everyone should get a chance to respond before you go again. Having two people run ahead of everyone else is annoying and a little rude. No one likes being left out. So again, be kind.

9 Posting, and Posting Rates: Everyone posts at their own rate, and we want this to be a comfortable place for fast paced writers, and slower writers to come and enjoy fully regardless of style or time or RL commitments. We ask everyone to be considerate of each other. We will also have a tagging system that will be readily available for writers in each thread.

10. Posts are third person, past tens.e We also don't want to lay down a super strict word count, and we aren't expecting every post to be a novel. A good general rule is to make sure you give your partner something to work with. Include details, thoughts, and actions in your post. That being said, we do require that some effort is put forth, and at least TWO paragraphs are given. Absolutely NO one-liners.

11. Let's talk absences, disappearances and dropping out. If you do decide to leave the game OR are unreachable for more than 28 days, I will figure a way to get your character out of the scene, and consider them retired. All I really ask in terms of absences, breaks etc. Is that you send us a PM letting us know, and we'll do what we can to help you take your character out of active play as smoothly as possible. And once you are ready to return, we'll do whatever we can to help in the process if needed.

12. Adult Material: While we allow darker, and more adult themes in our game. We want to offer our players as much creative freedom as possible in regards to interactions and personal plots. However, we require that everyone be considerate of others. Also keep in mind the rules set forth by Elliquiy Admins, as well as the writers personal ON and OFF's.

Sex: This is an adult game, we expect adult characters will have adult relationships, and that often includes intimacy. However, this is not a game for that purpose alone. First and foremost, this is about the characters [and their development] in the world we are crafting for your enjoyment.

GAME SETTING

Setting and Locations

The Tri-Cities Area, WA

The Tri-Cities are a group of three closely-tied cities (Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco) located at the confluence of the Yakima, Snake, and Columbia rivers in the semi-arid region of Southeastern Washington. A fourth neighboring city, West Richland, and the nearby CDP of Burbank (which is not part of the metropolitan area) are generally included as part of the Tri-City area and region, as are a handful of unincorporated communities. Each city borders either another city or one of the area's rivers, making the Tri-Cities seem like one uninterrupted mid-sized city. The cities function as the center of the Tri-Cities metropolitan area.

This is our core setting, the various groups all control different parts of the tri-cities. It should be noted that things will and can be adjusted to better suit the games needs. In general, the neutral zones are considered to be the downtown areas of the cities, where members of the various groups can freely travel within. However, outsiders must be careful not to violate the controlling group's laws, or attack their members even in a neutral zone within that territory.

Pack Headquarters and Buisnesses

The Pack owns and maintains a headquarters that was an old warehouse that has been remolded for pack use. It is often used as a residence for the pack, and the current alpha lives there.

There are two floors. The bottom level has a huge living space, couches, and television, a place to relax and enjoy yourself. There is an office that is off limits to everyone but the alpha. A modern kitchen with the top of the line appliances. Built into one of the walls in the living room is a section dedicated to just books, a mini library if you will. Bathrooms and a few bedrooms are on this level as well. There is one large staircase that leads from the main floor to the upper floor and then to the small roof space on top. This has a few chairs and an older couch and is a popular spot to relax during the summer nights.

The second level is where you'll find a few more bathrooms and most of the bedrooms. The alpha's room is the biggest and comes with its own bathing area. There is also a smaller hang out space upstairs, tucked off to the side. The warehouse is built for the pack, for comfort, and for safety. There is an outside, with a place to barbecue and hang out, especially during the warmer months.

There is a basement, added and expanded throughout the years. Down there is a larger office space, full of important documents. Only the Alpha, Beta and First have access to this space. It is also where the cells are kept, these are often used for new wolves who can't control themselves, rogues found on the territory, or if a wolf is injured or otherwise considered to be a danger to him/herself and others.

In addition to the Headquarters, Cerberus has bought and maintains two businesses in Kennewick. The Saloon is two-story building fashioned to look like an old saloon from the wild west, with a bar downstairs (open to the public), a loft-style apartment for members only on the second floor. It is located in Downtown Kennewick. The second is tattoo parlor 'Fated Ink'. The money generated from the bar and tattoo shop helps maintain the pack's needs.

Moonhunter Clan Headquarters

Moonhunter Mansion, or the Benson Estate to give it its formal name, was built in the early 20th century by the Benson family, who had gained their wealth in the coal industry. However, in the 1950s their business suffered a massive blow when Karl Benson was found to be embezzling millions of dollars. The resulting legal ramifications left the Benson family unable to maintain their lavish lifestyle and the Estate was put up for sale. It was quickly purchased by the Moonhunter Clan who made several modifications to the basement to accommodate their bedrooms. The upper floors are used for relaxation and entertaining during the night while the vampires that maintain the residence in the Estate retreat to basement bedrooms during the day for added protection.

Although only the highest ranking members of the clan have bedrooms within the Estate, all vampires are welcome and there are guest rooms available for those that wish to stay there in the short term, although these rooms are on the second floor and not as secure as the basement rooms due to blackout curtains being the only thing keeping the windows covered.  However, given the state of the art security system and the constant updates on the magical wards from the Sacred Circle still makes them safer than most other location, resulting in a lot of the rooms being used on a regular basis.

In addition to the Mansion itself, the estate also came with several acres of land that the Clan makes use of in many ways.  Whether its hosting late night parties or just giving members of the Clan an area to wander without fear of being accosted by werewolves.  The grounds are maintained during the day by a group of human workers, most of whom are thralls or ghouls who tend the Estate for their vampire masters.

Near the edge of the estate is another small building, but this building holds a far more sinister purpose.  This is where any prisoners are kept, be they werewolves that have been captured too close to the Estate or rogue vampires that are awaiting some form of punishment or trial for infractions against the Clan.  Only a select few vampires are allowed near this facility and being caught too close to it could land one in deep trouble with the Clan.

The Groups Information

The MoonHunters Clan

“The Hunt is the greatest thrill that one can experience.  It's better than love, better, than sex, better than anything.  Because in a heartbeat, the Hunter can become the Hunted and your life can be at risk.  For an immortal, anything that can actually threaten your life is something to be treasured, enjoyed, and sought after.  The Hunt is the greatest thrill and that is why we commit ourselves to the pursuit of it.”

The Moonhunters are a unique vampire clan.  While most are purposed as a social order, they are more like a sportsman's club.  Founded in the 15th Century, in the early stages of the vampire/werewolf wars, it was initially meant to be a group of highly skilled warriors with orders to hunt down and slaughter any werewolves that they could.  And they performed their job to the letter, racking up a body count that devastated the werewolf popular to the point that they were nearly extinct.  They were almost too good and other clans grew jealous of them and the influence that they'd managed to gather as a result of their success.  Jealousy soon grew to outright hostility and the Moonhunters soon found themselves the hunted as other clans wanted them gone since they had served their purpose and were causing more problems than they were seemingly worth.

To most, that would've been the end of the Moonhunter, but it wasn't.  In the 19th century, the group was revived, but with far different aims.  Feral vampires had exploded in number and the Moonhunters were revived with a new mandate to hunt down and kill as many feral vampires as they could.  Once again, they acquitted themselves well and feral vampires were tracked down and killed.  With their task completed, many expected that they would be disbanded, but instead, they insisted on being recognized as a true Clan.  This wish was granted after a long and lengthy period of discussions.  Since then, they have often been called upon to help handle situations with wild werewolves or feral vampires.

Fifty years ago, the Clan moved it's headquarters to Tri-City, believing that it was where their particular set of skills would be of most use.  While being a hunter isn't strictly required, membership can be gained in a number of ways as is the case with most vampire clans, a sizable portion of the Clan are extremely capable hunters and it's not uncommon for said members to be found showing off their latest trophy to the others.  However, there is a strict code and set of guidelines on just what is an acceptable hunt to avoid causing problems with the other members of Tri-City.

The Territories

Kennewick, WA: Belongs to the Cerberus pack, -- They have their Saloon in downtown Kennewick, with the main pack home just outside the city limits. Due to the peace agreement, vampires and Ghouls are allowed to venture into their territory with the understanding that they must obey pack law. To do otherwise invites the wrath of the alpha and his wolves.

Richland, Washington Belongs to the Vampire Clan -- They own various businesses and have their main headquarters in a nice, rather secluded area. Like with the wolves, other supernaturals are allowed to be inside the city freely, but must follow Clan law.

Pasco, Washington: While it is a known place for Witches to make home, Pasco doesn't offically belong to either of the larger groups, and is known as neutral territory. It is often where the group leaders will meet when needed and it is where the peace treaty was first signed. Pasco is considered open to all, and neither group has any official say on who can stay or not stay. The only expectation is that the terms of the peace treaty are honored.

The Cerberus Pack

Cerberus and the Tri-Cities Pack.


The Tri-Cities Pack has been around since the mid 19th century, and has seen its fair share of changes, the old alpha was a wolf by the name of Abraham Wick. Wick was never a fan of vampires, and his attitude bled into his pack members, making things tense between the two supernatural groups. It wasn't uncommon to hear of a vampire and a werewolf getting into it, and most often one of them died for it. There was no treaty, Wick refusing to work with The Regent at the time.

This volatile relationship continued, but tensions between the Clan and Pack took a backseat when Cerberus came into town. Wick was an old wolf, set in his ways, and beginning to show signs of instability. He forced the Cerberus alpha into a challenge with his behavior, and it resulted in his death. Instead of putting another in power or leaving the remaining wolves to figure things out on their own. The Cerberus alpha took the opportunity to settle his pack in the tri-cities, taking over Kennewick as his.

It was the first real home Cerberus had since the war.

The newly formed pack found new strength, but also were handed new issues. Partly due to Wick’s antics, and partly due to the history that existed between Cerberus and the Moon Hunters in the Fifteenth century, during the war. For a short time, tensions and hostilities reached an all time high.

It took a while, and every day it seemed another battle was likely to break out until a tentative peace was reached. With that done, Cerberus focused on their new home, and on the pack as a whole, working toward uniting those who’d been original Cerberus, and those who’d come in from the old pack. To say the pack is one big cohesive unit would be an outright lie, there is plenty of tension beneath the surface, but so far, the distrust, feuds and tension have remained contained and under control.

Only time will tell how things play out.

Relationships Information

At present, there is a paper-thin truce keeping the various groups in an uneasy peaceful state of existence. But the wrong move can rip it to shreds.


Vampires - Werewolves: Tension you can slice with a knife. Everyone is aware of the truce but lingering hostilities still exist. Neither group seems to have a high opinion of the other.

Vampires - Ghouls: Considering a Ghoul can only exist by a vampire's creation, is isn't a stretch to say many find them useful. However, personal feelings are as different as the individual vampire. In general, though, you tend to find those who approve and enjoy having one, those who find the practice abhorrent, and those who make Ghouls, but see them as little better than servants.

Werewolves - Ghouls: Like their vampire masters, most wolves feel a certain amount of disgust toward these not quite humans, partly because of what they allow and do, and because of their connection to vampires.  Some pity them, and some don't know what to think. In general, the attitudes tend to rest more toward unfavorable. 

**Note: These are just very general ideas on attitudes between the various groups. It is up to the writer and the character as individuals to fully decide where they stand in terms of the various groups as a whole, and the individuals within.

The Laws

The Pack Law: These are the general rules followed by most packs and are accepted as concrete laws. How strictly they are enforced, and other little details varies from territory to territory and pack to pack.



Secrecy: Hide the existence of werewolves from human knowledge. To willfully expose werewolves is a crime punishable by death. This law is traditionally strictly enforced.

Territory: An Alpha's hunting ground is his own territory, and he rules it absolutely.

Progeny: You can only change someone with permission from the alpha whose territory you are in. If you violate this rule, that territories alpha has the right to judge you and your cub. If you run, you will be hunted. Also, until the new wolf, or cub is considered trustworthy and capable of handling themselves and their urges, the wolf who changed them and the alpha act as mentors.

Protection: Alpha's nor their ranked members are allowed to abuse or harm their subordinates. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety and health of the subordinates. It is the Alpha's responsibility to ensure the safety of his pack.

Hospitality: Honor the domains of others and present oneself to the ruler of any domain you visit. Lone wolves, visiting wolves from outside packs must ask the Alpha of that area for permission to stay. If this is violated, the alpha and his ranked wolves are within their rights to make the offending wolf vacate the territory by whatever means necessary.

Destruction: The right to kill belongs to the Alpha of a pack, only the Alpha may call a Hunt. In the case the target is an alpha of a pack, only the Beta and First may make the call if there is no challenger to the rank.




Vampiric Laws: There are three Orders that nearly all of vampire society adhere too and agree upon as unbreakable laws. Anything more varies from region to region, clan to clan, and is highly dependent on the Clan Leader, or Elder.



The First Order: The Mask - Accepted as the most important and basic law this is the one least challenged. This Order demands that vampirism must remain a secret. Before the modern era, this was less enforced and even scoffed at by some. However, given the way human society has progressed, and the challenges of media, this order has evolved into something highly important, and is strictly enforced.

The Second Order: Making Offspring - This order restricts and is meant to prevent vampires from making new vampires too often. This law is one of the less strictly enforced. The Second Order states that a vampire cannot continually make new fledglings, and must wait until their fledgling as passed the fifty years before considering another. If in a clan or another's territory, it is wise to seek permission from that areas Regent or Leader. In addition, the vampire's fledgling is considered his or her sole responsibility and their actions and crimes reflect that of his or her maker.

The Third Order: Hunting and Hospitality The Third order covers two separate things. First, is the right of hunting. Basically, a vampire can hunt so long as they do not kill their victims, or do anything that can violate the First Order.  Now, given the predatory nature of vampires, killing isn't always unavoidable, however, most leaders and elders don't look too closely as long as the body count doesn't begin to attract unwanted attention.

The second half is in regards to hospitality and territory.  It is tradition and generally expected for a vampire who is without clan or is new to an area controlled by a clan to present himself to the Regent or Elder. Gifts are welcome. But just the simple act of showing himself is considered enough and shows respect. The law states that the presented vampire can request temporary shelter, which lasts three days before they have to either move on or formally request the right to stay in the Regents territory.

The Three Day Period in which a vampire is granted shelter means - The Regent provides safe housing or a place for the vampire to rest, allows them to hunt in his territory, and there is the understanding that neither the new vampire, nor the Regent or his clan can cause harm to each other during this period.




The Treaty: The treaty signed recently between The Moonhunters, and The Cerberus Pack is fairly straight-forward and basic.

• 1) Neither Clan or Pack can attack or kill the other without significant reason. To do so invites punishment and the involvement of both parties.
  
  
  
• 2) Neutral territory is open to all, and it's understood that neither clan nor pack has true authority there. But that both sides must obey the laws of their kind.
  
  
  
• 3) When traveling in each other's territory, it's understood that so long as no law is violated, the wolf or vampire is safe. However, they must gain permission to stay in that area after a period of forty-eight hours has passed. The Leaders of that area are within their rights to deny, and evict the individual from their territory after the time period is over, or if they violate a law.

Character Creation Guidelines.

Humans:

Human characters don’t have their own set ‘list’ of information. They are more or less simply ordinary men and women who live in the tri-cities. The majority of human characters should be unaware of the supernatural truth behind the other characters. Unless a good background reason is presented that explains why they know.

That being said, Human characters are more than able to eventually become a member of the supernatural races. Be it Ghoul, Vampire, or Wolf. We the GMs are willing to help writers with this goal in mind for their characters as much as we are able to do so. We just ask that you speak to us about it first, and let your intentions known.

Of course, this is not the only option available if you wish for your character to remain human but eventually become aware. That is also a possibility.

Werewolves

Bitten and Born - Born werewolves are very rare creatures, and while we are open to having them in the game, we’ll be keeping the numbers on the low side. Most werewolves should be bitten.

Pack vs Lone: We would love to have the pack ranks be filled, but we also welcome lone wolves as well. In the beginning, the number of lone wolves allowed in the game will be on the low side.


Vampires:

Clan vs Clanless - While we would love vampires to take roles in the local clan, we also welcome clanless or lone vampires. Like werewolves, the initial number, in the beginning, will be restricted.

Ghouls - Writers interested in playing a Ghoul are more than welcome to do so. We encourage reaching out to writers of vampire characters and perhaps working out a relationship between Ghoul and player vampire, but if that is not an option, NPC masters work as well.

We feel that such a concept could work and have no problem with you setting up a bar like that.  One thing we do insist on is that you detail how your character came to discover the supernatural side of the Tri-Cities in the character's history.

That is an excellent question.  The Speaker of the Pack is, in essence, the Ambassador for the Pack.  They're the ones that will often be sent to attend meetings with other Packs or, in this case, meeting with officials from the Moonhunter Clan.  It's one of the few positions that would have regular contact with vampires as a result of the two groups being so close together.

1.  The Truce between Cerberus and Moonhunters is relatively recent, just around four years. Though when the old regent was in power, the truce was nothing more than words and paper, despite the efforts put forth to reach it.  Alex's predecessor wasn't very good at maintaining his end of things.

2. There is a wider, more general 'peace' order that was put into place after the 100-year war between vampires and werewolves, that started in the fifteenth century. It's more an agreement to not engage each other in war and hostilities that could result in it. Though it was created in the 16th century, and while it still holds,  it doesn't prevent or stop individual clans, packs from feuding, when and if that happens, it's expected of the leaders to reach some kind of resolution.

3. A bit of timeline - The Cerberus Alpha had been in power roughly five years before coming to the Tri-Cities, and taking over there. It's since been close to four years since he absorbed the former tri-cities pack into Cerberus.

So I have this idea for a enlightened human detective turned hunter, who mostly hunts outside the city. He doesn't kill indiscriminately, only those that pose a major threat to other humans. He isn't officially supported by either clan, but he does hunt inside the cities from time to time.

I figure he isn't exactly well liked by either side, but he almost fills the role of peace keeper of sorts.

Actually there is a bit of a process before your character can be accepted.  First you need to complete the correct Character Sheet and then PM it to Codexa and myself. We'll go over it and ask any questions we might have.  Once we approve it then you'll be told to post it in the Accepted Characters thread.  If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to let either one of us know.

Gonna be blunt. I am looking for a potential love interest for my Mercy. Her wolf is Dominant (though the woman is still learning) so I would like either a big male submissive for her or a tomboyish female. A male dominant is not out of the question if they can handle being pushed and tested at times.

Please note that if interested your character should be able to get involved in the game as a whole, not soley exist for the pairing!

Also note, in mentioning submissive and dominant I am referring to the character's wolf nothing more.
