History

Born in the beginning of the 11th century, Falk was the youngest of a small jewish family. It was a bad time for anyone living in the area known today as Germany to be a Jew. The crusades led by Franks and Germans against the Jew had him grow up in fear until his family found refuge far into the country, with a relative. He lived most of his mortal life there, with his family and was even considering marriage with one of the local girl when the crusade reached the village where he was hiding. Or at least, they thought it was crusaders.

Falk woke up surrounded by the corpses of his family, and a dark haired girl that looked to be a good decade younger than him. She tried to save the others too, but it was too late or so she claimed. The truth was, her and her two companions had drained the other dry, but the three women had not killed him in hopes that he would join them and live an unnaturally long life of sin. Falk agreed, but only to learn to adapt. It took him a century of running with the three vampires before he could break free and live on his own.

Falk travelled through Europe, trying to avoid wars and unrest whenever he could, fearing he might be dragged out of his hideout during daytime. As soon as it became possible to cross to the west safely, he did. He knew his passage would be risky, that the strange weakness that some of the members on board would feel would be seen as a bad omen and perhaps even trigger a witch hunt on board, but he still took the boat to the colony. The change in his quality of life was enormous. The colonies, although based on the same justice system than the good King’s land, were not as organized and missing persons were not a priority to find.

Falk blended in, and watched warily as the superstitious people launched into witch hunts, quick to blame a neighboring woman for something they had obviously brought upon themselves. Falk learned to read and to write, but also to count, and he became a business man. For his refusal to show himself into the sun and to explain his pale skin, he had invented a strange illness; and intolerance to the sunlight. To avoid detection or suspicion, Falk kept his hand in comfortable gloves so that none would be able to feel his cold skin.

Through the years, he managed to avoid most of the civil unrest, and slowly made his way down to Louisiana. Speaking french just as well as he did English or his native tongue, Falk found it easy to blend in and pass for a gentleman of a certain status. Given that some of his investments had led to a decent living, and that the recent investments in Bâton Rouge were also paying, Falk could indulge into some hobbies that would never have crossed his mind as a mortal, such as doll making. An artist at heart, Falk spent most of the day time cooped up in the back of his store, painting the porcelain faces and sewing the bodies and their dresses.

This is where he met Tess, with whom he fell in love. Telling her the truth had been the hardest thing to do in his life. She couldn't accept it. She was a good catholic girl and even though he had gone to church with her and even held a cross in his hands without problem, Tess simply couldn't believe that being a vampire wasn't being a demon. After giving her a few days, he went to see her to discover that she had taken her own life. After this, Falk took lovers, but none of them ever managed to really reach his core, to make him fall in love with them.

He left Louisiana to seek out a rumor. There was a coven established in the north of the country. That much he knew for sure, but the rumors were of a system that avoided the hunt and that ensured the stability of a coven. He met Kate and understood quickly that he had been hunting on what she claimed as her own territory when she cornered him and attacked. She was much younger than he, almost half his age, and thus he could beat her by force, but she was always a step ahead of him and he understood her gift; she was a telepath.

Rather than to cause more trouble, Falk surrendered and told her the purpose of his visit. After they discussed the possibility of him staying in Vermont for a short visit.
