The Terror Wars
Not one war, but a series of wars during the first three decades of the twenty-first century these include:
The Afghanistan War - a multinational war in response to the Sep 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon.
The Iraq War - US led coalition invades Iraq toppling its government on the pretext Iraq is developing weapons of mass destruction. Years of warfare follow
The Second Iraq War - As US troops are withdrawing, the government changes in a sudden coup. The remaining American troops find themselves vastly outnumbered and suffer losses. America resumes warfare against Iraq
The Infrastructure War - Terrorists strike again at the US. This time the target is all power plants that supply New York. All but one are destroyed by suicide truck bombs. Along with the power plant attacks, terrorists target power lines and gas lines leading into New York and compound that with sniper attacks against utility workers trying to repair the damage. New York is without power or utilities for weeks, mass riots break out and Martial Law is declared. A few weeks later a less successful attack is made against the infrastructure supporting Los Angeles. Although not as successful, US military forces are stretched thin
The Jihayd War - Already embroiled in warfare in Iraq and at home, the US is hard pressed to respond when an alliance of states including Palestine, Iran and Jordan turn on all US citizens and send troops to support Iraq.
Global Warming
Climatic experts had long cried out warnings about the dangers of Global Warming but those warnings were largely ignored until the early part of the twenty-first century. By that time it was already too late. Global warming was already accelerating and the measures taken to address it were too weak and too late. Polar and glacial ice began melting with a rapidity far beyond all expectations as the rate of change continued to accelerate. The melting of permafrost and the warming of the oceans released additional greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. The frequent and widespread global wars destroyed large swathes of Forrest and the fires of burning cities and oilfields made their contributions as well.
The climatic change affected the political landscape. The increase in typhoon frequency in Japan alone is believed to have caused it to tumble as a world power. The United States also suffered from the increased and regular severe economic damage to its population rich East and South coast areas. Meanwhile the melting of the Greenland glacial ice disrupted the flow of the Gulf Stream. While the rest of the world experienced widespread large temperature increases, Euorpe's experienced a slight average drop in local temperatures. Although weather patterns shifted over Europe, it did not experience the same sharp changes the rest of the world did and was spared most of the fierce storms. This factor undoubtedly assisted the European Union in its emergence as the premiere world economic superpower throughout the 21st century.
The Fission Blanket:
It started out as a theory but in 2022, the fission blanket became a reality. The fission blanket works on the electroweak force, the one responsible for nuclear decay and shuts it down. What that means is that within an operating fission blanket, a nuclear bomb can't work. Not only nuclear bombs either, any radioactive material decays harmlessly becoming inert. Suddenly the nuclear arsenals around the world were threatened with being made obsolete. The threat of global nuclear war could finally be banished. The price was high - no nuclear power plants, no nuclear medicine, but starting with military bases and then extending to major cities, fission blankets were established to shield against the possibility of nuclear explosions. That hope proved too late for India and Pakistan which engaged in a short but brutal nuclear exchange in 2025. Major cities in both countries ceased to exist and the two would be locked in a blood war for decades.
World War Three
The terror wars never really ended, but they faded into the resources wars. Continued storms brought on by global warming and rising sea levels led to a large displaced population that sought to immigrate to the developed countries. The US, the long-time world power fell from its position of economic dominance but remained the premier military power. The US became an increasingly military establishment as it fought war after war in the middle east and openly shifted from a strategy of just conquering terrorists to controlling oilfields. The United States frustrated and its army stretched to the breaking point went nuclear, ending the Jihayd War.
The European Union was enraged over the use of nuclear weapons by the United States and insisted the United States nuclear arsenal be destroyed by neutralization using the Fission Blanket. The US refused and responded by increasing its military deployment. What happened next was debated for years, but a nuclear bomb exploded just outside the Paris fission blanket. Europe launched its nuclear arsenal at the US. The US counterstruck. Most cities and military bases survived, protected by the fission blanket, but the war shifted becoming a conventional war that lasted for twenty years.
The United States lost, eventually, conquered by a world alliance let by the European Union. It surrendered unconditionally on May 3rd, 2057. It wasn't until the development of the chronoviewer that the bomb that exploded outside Paris was traced back to a terrorist group that deliberately provoked WWIII as revenge for the US nuclear attacks ending the Jihayd War.
The Resource Wars
World War three over, long years of warfare followed. Displaced and hungry citizens from the third world wanted their part of the first world. The rest of 21st century was one long series of wars, first over oil, then over water, and then over arable land. The developed countries of the world all but collapsed becoming military/police states.
The New Century
At the turn of the century, 2100 was a world battered by constant warfare and global warming that left it a shell of what it once was. From a high of 7 billion, world population was down to only 2 billion. A war weary world finally developed a one world government and slowly began reconstructing. The past sixty years have been a period of reconstruction and unification.
Cultural Change
The almost constant warfare of the twenty-first century caused a dramatic cultural shifted. Even the developed countries drafted men into the armed forces. The male population was much harder hit than the female population, a trend that continued as the century progressed. Women equality got replaced with veteran's rights (a code phrase for men rights) and women found themselves a surplus commodity. A healthy intelligent man could generally have his pick of women. The result was a predictable erosion of women power in a relationship. Coupled with that the frequent natural disasters, martial law, and women rights were already on the downswing. With the complete breakdown of order in the later pattern of the twenty-first century, fighting became a way of life and women once again became the second-class citizens they were throughout most of human history.
When order started being reestablished in the 22nd century, men were in control again. The period of women equal rights is considered to have generally been a bad idea and is referred to as the "Great Emasculation". Dueling is legal and men are very polite to one another. Women can't vote and can't even own property. Robo-girls are available and many men consider them to be superior to the real thing. They don't talk and have unlimited endurance in bed. Netchixxx feeds the market for women. Very few men marry these days and the population is declining. Most men prefer to have sons. A daughter considered a waste. Every man uses robogirls and Netchixxx girls An actual free woman has to compete with a slave market that will provide any service.
Dueling
Dueling is once again accepted as the preferred way of settling disputes among men. Since the establishment of a world government and the cessation of the Resource Wars, dueling has become the number one cause of death in men. There are three accepted dueling weapons: handguns, foils, and hand to hand. The challenged has the right to pick the weapon. The challenger may set the time and place. Most men train hard to become an expert at either handguns, foils or hand to hand. This discourages challengers. There is no hiring of a professional duelist to duel for you. All men fight their own duels.
Chronviewers
Chronoviewers appeared in 2020 and were first expensive but now commonplace. They can view anything that happened anytime in the past. Among other things crime is virtually non-existant now. There are no trials as there once were. People are taken into custody. A chronviewer establishes whether they broke the law or not and if they did sentance is carried out. With it being virtually guaranteed that all crime will be punished, crime has become non-existant. Lawyers still exist, but they function more to ensure that all the laws are followed correctly. Civil trials still exist, but often are settled by duels instead.
Porn is also non-existent as a paid commodity. Anyone can use a chronoviewer to spy upon any couple from the past at any time. For example, before renting a Netchixxx girl, a prospective renter can examine her past and see how well she performs in bed.
People of 2161 are used to this goldfish world, but note it makes them very open and honest. People don't commit crimes, because their life history is an open book.
Medical Technology
Medical technology has defeated all diseases and everyone is guaranteed a long and healthy life barring accident, injury or war. Medical technology hasn't quite conquered aging but they've slowed it considerable and greatly extended the prime of life. All people now have a fit and healthy body, courtesy of 'body sculpting', a process by which fat is trimmed and muscle is grown. Every man can be perfectly muscled and have as big a dick as their ego demands.
Netchixxx girls start out unaltered. So all renters are assumed to have a kink for 'unaltered' girls as opposed to the big-breasted sculpted figures almost all women in 2161 have. Once a rental girl's popularity for being unaltered fades, they will be body sculpted to perfect figures - just like all the other girls.

Housing
Ceilings glow, no light fixtures, the whole ceiling glows. Rooms have minimal furniture. Walls are left bare, because they are projection screens and what they are showing can be varied at the whim of the owner.
