The setting is a medieval kingdom, whose king died a year ago. As the neighboring kingdoms tried to seize the opportunity to attack, the 20 years old prince had to come back from the scholars' academy before his training could be over. No one, in the kingdom or outside, believed that the prince would be up to the task of running the kingdom. But his speech to the masses at the royal courtyard was one of courage, conviction, and confidence. Suddenly the ministers and the generals believed they had a leader, who could make up for his inexperience by his physical and mental strengths. Suddenly people didn't feel king-less or orphaned anymore.
But the queen is still worried. She knows her son sounded confident, but is inexperienced and unaware of the various power games, and a small mistake could leave everything at the mercy of enemies, both from outside the kingdom and within. She knows, for the kingdom to be safe, she has to make sure that every step the king took, is a cold calculated move, and not an impulsive hot blooded one. She knows her son's huge self belief and swagger would mean he would push aside all her suggestions. And the generals and ministers and yes-men surrounding him won't help.
She has to find a way to rein in her son's arrogance, and teach him the ways of his father and tricks of political gameplay. She has to first earn his complete attention though. She has to step up as the Matriarch.
