; The ever serious little Japanese-American woman is known for her cold demeanor and ‘get it done’ attitude. What few understand is that she really isn’t a cold or distant individual. She’s learned her lesson, in the past, when serving in Afghanistan and watching fellow Marines and Soldiers, some of whom she’d gotten attached to, get killed. She learned that getting involved in her profession was painful and dangerous.
Tanaka Akiko is formerly Staff Sergeant Tanaka Akiko, a rare female 0317(Scout Sniper), who saw action in the early hours and weeks of Operation Enduring Freedom, helping spot for Allied air strikes and even take down the occasional target of opportunity.
Four years later, Staff Sergeant Tanaka returned to the United States and was attached to US Naval Intelligence as a ballistics expert. Now, no longer serving in the US Marine Corps, pursuant to an apparent ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy infraction, Staff Sergeant Tanaka seeks to continue service as a field agent with the Navy’s Criminal Investigative Service, now armed with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University.
