An RP of Epic Epicness, A Strange Mansion that Solves Mysteries
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:45:09 AM »
This is an RP idea that's running around in my head at the moment. I'm looking for 8 people to play females as main characters, and for now looking for two people of either gender to be a client and a villian.

STORY BACKGROUND: A secret Organization that dedicates itself to look into unusual matters discovers a Doorway from medieval times that leads to other planets and worlds. Exploring it, they find a dying civilization dubbed "the undeveloped world". Carrying what remained of the population back to Earth, they let them rebuild their village in a lush portion of the midwest US. While all of this took place, certain individuals happened to come together and made friends and/or became acquainted with one another. Asking to live together, the Organization built them an elaborate mansion, agreeing under one condition; that they'd assist in their investigations or serve as a "safe haven" for individuals that needed protection...

Please note that I have attached pictures to describe attire ONLY. More or less that's my pet peeve, and of course they'd have to change clothes at certain points in the story to do certain things(I know, I'd hate to wear the same jeans very single day for the rest of my life. But in general the clothing conveys what I'm trying to portray in the characters. But when you take a character, you're welcome to give them your own name, hair and eye color, ethnicity, and anything I didn't specify (i.e a parent died, or did poorly in school, etc) Also please bear with the naming tags; proper names will get filled in as this is further developed and people show interest. Bold and strikeline show taken.

Girl 1: About 18, survivor of a shipwreck from a Japanese-esque culture on the undeveloped world and was found by Woman 2. Lives at the mansion as 2's assistant in her work. Attempting to retain what she remembers of her culture and collected whatever survived off the shipwreck. Due to her actions things like a zen garden and a tori arch exist on the estate. Would have a Japanese name and be Asian.

Girl 2: 18, granddaughter of a fisherman who used to live in Woman 1's country. Determined, likes to lounge around most of the time. Gets picked on a lot by Girl 3. Is a machosist. Maintains a few small gardens and likes to grow exotic things. (Girl on right with blue skirt)

Girl 3: Roughly twenty-ish. An odd resident from another world, has the ability to sense subspace matter; her kind uses this ability to do stellar cartography. Very mischevious, willful and having a collected aire about her, likes to pull pranks and treats everything as its hers. Collect odd curio items in her spare time. Lived on Earth in secret for a short time, so she owns several items from there and has a repository of Earth culture (music, magazines, etc) . Knows some martial arts from Girl 1 and likes to carry around a katana half the time.

Girl 4: About 17-18, just the assisting/2nd maid of the mansion, works in conjunction with the head maid. She's up for however you want to make her personality wise, but I would suggest not making her too hardheaded-brazen.

Girl 5: 21, appointed guardian of the mansion. Accomplished spy and assassin. Connections in the underground sometimes proves useful. Spars with Girl 3 and Guy 1 to hone each other's fighting skills, good friend with Girl 1.

Woman 1: 27-28, head of the mansion's household. Comes from some country in a far off world which is in a Baroque/late Renaissance state of development and is a mashup of most of the European countries, though predominantly Spain/Italy/French. Very culture oriented, is a hopeless romantic and is an extremely skilled flamenco dancer. Acts very lady-like and is usually out performing somewhere. Knows people in high places as a celebrity.

Woman 2: 30's.From the undeveloped world, loves books and collects knowledge from different worlds and catalogues them. Somewhat love-desperate. Gentle and motherly-like in disposition. Knows she's a stranger to Earth and retains her habit of dressing as a side effect of attempting to not be completely alienated. Takes flamenco lessons from Woman 1, gets annoyed by Girl 3's behavior, continually wonders about Guy 1's past.

Woman 3: 25, head maid of the mansion. Strict but understanding at the same time, tends to take matters into her own hands if something isn't going right. Sometimes accompanies Woman 1 to assist her with things. Can be often marveling and reading/riding/using Guy 1's choice of literature, entertainment and hardware.

Guy 1: 22, learned to pilot fighter jets from a member of the Organization who owned a gunnery school at taught pilots for the military. Was recruited by Girl 5 while he tried to hack a university mainframe. Goes by callsign "Nighthawk". Owns a VTOL capable F-18E in a crimson on white with golden yellow trim paint scheme, dubbed "Golden Katana" by Girl 1. Is tuning jet half the time and on the firing range whenver he's no doing work or leisure. Shares gardening interest with Girl 2.  Is afraid to show his feelings sometimes and cares very much for the people he lives with. Girl 3 and Woman 3 can sometimes be found with Guy 1 tuning The Golden Katana, pulling a shenannigan, or performing an operation on technology of some sort, sometimes roping Girl 5 along.  (i.e compiling a program, upgrading a computer, wiring a server, you get the picture. ;) )

The primary objective of this RP is to interact with various "clients" who would be played by "guest" RP'ers. who would either have some problem that needs resolving or need protection from various baddies by this "weird" and supposedly dysfunctional household. The clients can be anyone; politicians, a witness that knows too much, a professor that has made a revolutionary discovery, etc. Think "The Human Target" crossed over with "The X Files". Then said problem would get solved in whatever it may entail.
The secondary objective would have the relationship between the main characters evolve a little bit. This wouldn't be one giant onging RP as in one threat (thought the concept would), rather, each "client" would use one thread, as in an episode. Only one RP thread would take place at a time.

Free romance is allowed between everyone, even girl/girl relationship. The guy regards all the girls as "roommates" and doesn't go around sleeping with them all the time; but he will romance them on occassion if they ask him to do so. He's not taken, does not pick and is available.

Also depending on each episode, the major forum that this is placed will vary. A light rosy "OMG my research got stolen" will be placed under light cosensual. But if a sadistical maniac raped a girl and she was seeking protection, or the characters would be placed into a non-consensual situation, the topic would be placed under there instead. Generally aim for light, but story ideas and happenings can dip into into non-cosensual. I will NOT under any circumstances go further than that.

And final note on some final no-no's;

No Scat or watersports:
No Bestiatilty,
No Vore or mutilation(in a sexual sense; its understandable you'll get mauled if you got hit by an exploding missile with metal shrapnel)

Looking forward to hear from people about this as I would like to get this started. I'll be able to post twice a day at least, perhaps more after school starts. Absences will be stated and I will notify you if I'm out of town (the usual reason I'm not on here).

This is very well planned and thought out - in fact the whole game is a great idea. However I can see two problems. First, in my experience, most RPers do not take on pre-created characters; they like to make up their own. Even naming them or providing images can put people off, let alone creating a series of links between the personalities. I have tried games in the past where a 'cast' was already in place for players to take up and none of these games ever got started. I think this is a weakness in RPers myself and if we are good at what we do and we are mature and open-minded we should be happy to take on roles given us, but there you go.

Second, your story idea of players entering to present cases will not work I think. The way you've set this up seems to be an episodic format like a TV series and that's asking a player to come in, create a storyline then leave again and as with pre-created characters this never works in my experience. There was even a group promoted on Elliquiy a year or so back that asked for players to register their interest as 'bit part players' to enter games at the request of GMs, play an expendable role then leave and as far as I'm aware that idea was stillborn as well. RPers are just like that.

Your idea would work great as an animated TV show or if you wrote it alone as a story. As a forum RP I think you'd need to accept a lot of concessions to make it work and then you'd lose the originality of the idea.

The presence of 1 male and lots of females is a bit weird too... and smacks of a thinly veiled harem game. In this other world people were saved from, weren't there any men?

Sorry if my comments seem harsh, but I'm trying to be honest and helpful.

@Habaine: It's all right, I was just feeling out to see if it'd work. I appreciate the criticism, so don't feel bad. :)

Perversely, I really like the idea, being a fan of anime I like the artwork you've chosen too. I'd be happy playing any of the more forthright women.

i have to say i like the idea. as a fairly open minded person i have no problem taking on roles that have been provided but haibane has a point about how a lot of Rp-ers don't like doing that.

Being an anime fan however i find it a fascinating idea and would play a foreign character as well. *shrugs* probably eitehr girl 1 or girl 2......

I have to say I love the concept of the game and I have no problem with pre-gen characters. The only downside that I can see as far as this is concerned is the fact that my card is currently full but otherwise I would love to play
