Is there a  way to disable the profile pictures accompanied by everyone's name?

Modify Profile > Look and Layout > Tick 'Don't show users' avatars' :-)

...and if you have Firefox with the "Adblock Plus" plugin installed you can select any one specific image and block that (if it's the case that one specific avatar is not to your taste).
