Kayla was deeply disturbed by the girl's tales. Kayla never believed in spectres, ghosts, God, the afterlife, superstition, or visions. Her father had stamped any belief of that kind out of her at a young age. Even Santa, The Tooth Fairy, everything. Despite this, she could not deny the evidence so plainly staring her in the face. She could feel herself shaking, but all else was numb as she left the girl. Kayla had never experienced anything bigger than herself or her personal concerns, but the things happening now where bigger than herself and everyone in this damned town.

As Kayla taught her class, she did, once again, what she does best. She pushed everything from her mind and heart and focused on the class and the curiculum. As soon as she left her work, however, a sick feeling settled in the very pit of her stomach. Everything the girl had said was not the truth, but Kayla knew without a doubt that ninety percent of it was. Something in the last thing she had said was off, out of place. And for once, Kayla could not put her finger on it.

Kayla was beside herself. Everything she knew and loved about her life was crashing down on her, and fast. She never needed answers from anyone else except herself, and it seemed that now she was looking to everyone else for the answers. The girl said they weren't prepared. Kayla believed her fully. As Kayla's thoughts wandered back to the small child, she felt that wrenching pain in her heart again. The girl had been through and seen unspeakable things. No matter, Kayla knew that along with that strange man, they would protect the girl to the best of their ability. For some strange reason, only he shared Kayla's connection with the small child.

Who was he? Kayla decided that tonight at the Blue Moon, she would ask. She had to learn something about him, he seemed to be the closest thing to an ally Kayla had. That in itself was an odd concept to Kayla. She had never felt the need or want for an ally before, but she needed someone to talk to right now, someone to tell her that she wasn't going insane.

(OOC: Looks like we've lost Balen, so I'll keep this going for now, if you're still in, Toys, and then we'll just see what happens and if we can entice a few more people to join.)

That night at the Blue Moon, Kayla looked around in vain for John. She NEEDED someone to share her thoughts with, yet he didn't seem to be anywhere near.

Indeed, the person settling down across from her was that rather odious deputy mayor.

"Buy you a drink?" he asked.
