How do I go about it?

Okay, I didn't really know where to put this, so I thought I'd ask it here.

I'm excited to start roleplaying, but I dont know how to go about it!  Do I ask permission from the thread-maker to join, jump right in, is it best to just start my own, ask what kind of character they're looking for?  I don't know where to start really, I dont want to do something wrong and come off as obnoxious, so any help on where I could start?

My advice would be to look at the players wanted thread...If nothing there catches your eye, then start your own thread in GMs wanted...

Depends if you want to join in an already existing group game, or start a one on one with some who has caught your eye. For a one on one, I'd say send them a PM, and see if they're interested. For a group game, PM the GM and see if there's a spot open.

Then take it as it comes.

Thanks, both of you.  I'll try that out.  If I choose to make my own, if I want a group one, would I just make a post players wanted for mine and see if anybody takes to the idea?

I'd say so, yeah. Put a thread up and see who responds. If you get sufficient interested people (not sure how many are required), then ask a mod to create a the game.
