Really about a month away now and I want it so bad. Obsidian doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence these days (Alpha Protocol) but a lot of the guys who worked on the first two Fallout games ended up there. Still more complex stat-based dialogue, iron-sight aiming, better story-containing minions, oh and effing Vegas. Grab some radway and your laser rifle it's time to hit sin city.

Also because I didn't want to add another topic to the board but does it seem like this quarter (Sept to Dec) is just made of pure overdoes inducing levels of awesome?

Lets see:

Dead Rising 2
Fable III
Fallout: New Vegas
L.A. Noir

and many more. Not to mention what hits shelves next year. If the world does end in 2012 then 2011 is the year of the gamer.
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

Brandon

Interestingly, as I understand it New Vegas is not supposed to be canon in the fallout universe. Similar to Brotherhood of steel (my favorite fallout game so far). Of all the games to come out this year, New vegas is probably the one Im looking forward to the most

Oh and alpha protocol was awesome. That is all

I'm looking forward to it, but Obsidian doesn't leave me with great confidence. Between both Obsidian and the now defunct Troika (both of which contained ex-Interplay/Black Isle staff which worked on the first two Fallout games), the games are usually decent, but always lacking in some way. Whether its a bunch of bugs (Neverwinter Nights 2, Temple of Elemental Evil, VtM:Bloodlines), lack of coherent ending (KotOR 2), or bad engine/interface (Arcanum, Alpha Protocol).

Only one game was bad enough to the point where I didn't enjoy playing it, though. I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, though. Hoping its good enough that whatever flaws come out don't make it unplayable.

Jude

New Vegas is going to be canon, just not part of the "enclave" storyline thread.

LA Noire has been delayed officially, it's not coming out this year.

Games that I think have promise:  Fallout:  New Vegas, Little Big Planet 2, Dead Rising 2, Call of Duty:  Black Ops, Front Mission Evolved, Goldeneye, Quantum Theory, Castlevania:  Lords of Shadow, Two Worlds II, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Medal of Honor, Vanquish... and probably more I'm not thinking of.

EDIT:  I'm with Brandon, I love Alpha Protocol and I like Obsidian.

Kazyth

Currently I hunger for three games.

Fallout: New Vegas
Fable 3
And... Rune Factory 3.  What can I say, I crave my dungeon-crawling/farming sim hybrid!

Too bad they are making DLC for New Vegas, so we will have to wait a year for the real full game.

QuestioningMySanity

I cannot wait for Fallout: New Vegas or Fable 3.

Ah..it feels like yesterday that I learned about Fable (1) coming out and couldn't wait.

I'm still not so sure about New Vegas... it just feels like an expansion to me, so I'll probably just borrow it from a friend and see if it's any different from FO3 before I actually buy it.

I checked out Quantum Theory and Vanquish... and damn those look awesome. Enslaved does, too, but I'll probably just rent that first. Also, you might want to check out the new Deus Ex that comes out next year. That's one I want sooooo bad!
Fuck virtue. Screw purity. I am vice. I define evil. I breathe... sin. I'll make you desire me--unless you're a prude--because I'm a whore; a damn good whore. Yum!

I agree on Obsidian but it is under the bigger guidance of Bethesda so hopefully they'll stick to making improvements to Fallout 3's engine (which is a good engine, not great, good).

Well, some of it, in my opinion, isn't the FO3 engine itself, but the way the game was designed. Certain skills/perks/items were near useless. While all types of weapons were certainly viable, certain ones clearly outclassed others. Balance issues like that, which I'm hoping get worked out for New Vegas.

Heaven Sent Blossom

A random collection of thoughts on the upcoming RELEASAGEDDON!!:

-As long as Bethesda don't get any kind of input into the story then New Vegas should be worth experiencing despite how ugly most Bethesda tech is (although their parent company bought Id, which could lead to them actually having good engines in future.) so I would consider myself cautiously optimistic about that one. Of course I'd be buying it anyway, since I buy everything that Obsidian release--even if that money winds up with Bethesda who I dislike.

-Vanquish is going to be amazing--in fact I already know it's amazing since there is a demo, and that demo is amazing. It's not quite as good fundamentally as something like Gears but it certainly adds enough crystal meth to the formula to make up for that.

-L.A Noir is vapourware. If I ever see it on a shelf then I will be stunned.

-Reach should be pretty sick, I mean it's got jet packs in it which is pretty much all it needed to get my money and I don't even like the Haloz.

-Surprisingly I'm a little excited for CoD: BLOPS despite Treyarch being very much the "B Team" of CoD developers. Even despite the lack of pedigree from the developers all the videos I've seen of it so far are very promising.

-The new Medal of Honour, or the multiplayer at least, is going to be awful. There's no way they're changing enough since they dropped the "beta" for any significant improvements over what they've already shown, which is kind of a shame but it's not like the Medal of Honour series has really been relevant since Infinity Ward moved on to make CoD

-Odyssey to the West looks insanely promising. That game wasn't even on my radar until the video dropped on xbox marketplace and now it's pretty much a day one purchase for me. Literally the only way I could care more about this game would be if it were a Bioware game using the Jade Empire engine or it featured Sun Wukong Warriors Orochi 2 style, and every line of dialogue out of the main characters mouth was "Time to put another notch on Mr. Whacky!".

-Valkyria Chronicles 2 is already out, however I figured I should mention it anyway and then go on to state that anybody with a PSP who doesn't buy this game is a bad person. Job done.

-Oh and there's a new Spiderman game, a new Spiderman game that's not going to be very good.

NEW VEGAS GAME MECHANICS SPOILERS FOLLOW (BUT NO STORY SPOILERS)

They've added quite a bit that makes it not just an expansion.  Here's a list off the top of my head:

- New Weapon Modification System (adding on new parts to customize and change performance of weapons)
- You can now aim down sights and shooting is more smooth in general.
- Melee attacks in VATS can be targeted and include a new weapon-specific special.
- New Hardcore Mode (Must drink, eat, and sleep to live).
- New Follower Systems (there's now a wheel for managing them and giving orders, plus they have actual personalities and display character even after joining your party).
- Around double the amount of weapons (plus a ton of new armor).
- Different types of ammo per gun (Hollowpoint, Armor piercing, etc.).
- Big guns/small guns merged into guns, survival skill added.
- There is now a reputation system like in Fallout 1 & 2 (every town has its own opinion on you).
- Gambling!
- Factions.

Another one:

Three kinds of currency with varying rates of exchange depending on where you are. Caps, NCR Dollars and Cesar's Legion Coinage.
Also bears clarification: Each casino is supposed to have its own floor rules for its games. You even get comped and stuff. Just watch out about that 10 luck stat you wanted. The casino has to make money and if you're winning too much the nicest thing they'll do is ask you to leave.

I am a gamer geek myself, and I blame that solely on Fallout3

My boyfriend bought it because he liked shooters, and got frustrated with the rpg aspect, so I decided to pick it up and give it a shot and I got hooked!!!

This is defintely a game I will be picking up day 1

Jude

They basically fixed all of the complaints that I had of Fallout 3 with New Vegas, which is why I am ridiculously pumped.  It's a little over a month away, and I couldn't be happier with the promise of playing it.  The only thing I'd change personally is the graphical quality, but it's not too bad.  GameInformer says it's a step above Fallout 3, just not very far.

badbabysitter

I didnt really mind the graphic quality of the game.. I can still rember saying " wow" when I got that first panagraphic look at the wasteland after leaving the Vault

but the character skins definitely need work, thats for sure... I am very excited about this game coming out

On the PC, there are, hell thousands of new character model mods for the game.

Hell, I got more mod then original game now myself.

Callie Del Noire

I'm looking forward to the upgrades options.. since I got the EBGames version I'll have the worn 10mm, I'm going to be stockpiling mods till I find something really NASTY for it.  (I like pistoleers)

Inkidu

The eating food thing sounds awesome but I don't like the idea of it probably being coupled with insane difficulty. :(
It's like Crysis it would be awesome if you could turn the Korean speech on without playing insane difficulty.

Looks like I'm going it alone again. Those all were kind of lame on paper...

Lame on paper for backstory and such, maybe, but the companion perks for some of them are hella useful.  50% less deterioration, greater healing, being able to spot stealthed enemies?  I'd take any three of those, happily.

Meh, I'll probably pass on stealth. Unless New Vegas uses a lot of stealthed units or you can't even target them in VATS anymore (used to you'd just get 0% chance to hit.)

I was kind of talking backstory. It might evolve and that's the teaser. Plus I'm really tired of female super mutant companions. Fawkes was awesome but still it gets old quick.
