Dangerously Driven [OOC/closed]

Welcome to Refugio, a quickly building city in Nevada. Here is the birth place of a special group of people. Forty years ago a group of mental patients escaped a facility for electromagnetic studies. These people, a group of twenty fled, and had a group of children. Now about seventy people out there maintain a new genetic trait that allows them to be more than just human. These people are what many would call Psychics, but because of the strange and innate abilities they have, they are called Psyns (pronounced "Signs"). The Psyns have hid amongst regular society, and to this day, the only thing that hints to their existence is the old news papers from forty years prior that speaks of the escaped prisoners of the Faulkner Medical Labratory. The Psyns now live rather normal lives. Or at least, it seems that way.

An exclusive underground club called "Adrenaline" hosts fights between Psyns. Big money, big crowds, and lots of partying. The lifestyle is basically drinking, fighting, sex, and partying. Live life like there's no tomorrow.

At the beginning of this roleplay, it's going to be pretty free-form almost. You live in Refugio, and you are a Psyn. Explore your vices, or lack of, and lead your life, but no matter what kind of life you take on, you are always drawn to Adrenaline where you can watch, or fight, others like you. Maybe you hide in the background, not known for what you are, or maybe you are a star fighter, known for your skills in combat and innate abilities.

But a deeper plot lies, as three seductive and trained anti-Psyns, are on the hunt. While Faulkner's guards may not have been able to capture their escaped experiments, their newest studies are surely to finish the job they could not and weed out the special genetic mutation of the Psyns from society. Will you, as an individual, survive the coming of your born and bred enemy? Of the stronger terminator that has met life merely to assure you meet your end?

Aida has the ability to do something slightly similar to auric reading. Though with auras, people can determine moods, emotions, and the amount of darkness about someone. With her ability, Aida can let her eyes fall on someone and she can get a certain gut feeling about them. And her gut feelings about people are rarely ever- if ever at all- wrong. These feelings tell her the majority of things of a person, without ever giving her their names, pasts, futures, or anything in between. It is purely an emotional knowing of what kind of person they are. As well, instead of just seeing someone and reading them, she can even better tell of a person's true intentions or personality when they touch her. But a lot of times she refuses to get close enough to touch someone because of the overload of perception she gathers from such touches. Another side effect and very good plus of this power is that she can look and recognize her own; other Psyns. And even better, she can recognize Anti-Psyns, she just doesn't know what they are quite yet.

Personality: Aida is a rather quiet, peaceful individual. She rarely argues or fights with most people, but she does tend to find herself willing to stand up for herself and those who gain her affections or trust. Aida loves to enjoy her time with reading, sometimes playing video games, or watching movies. She's very solemn and to herself, and prefers things that way. But then when she finds someone she cares for, or someone who is a softer person when she reads them, she finds herself unable to resist them very easily. Softer personalities, and every now and then a stronger personality, can summon her need for small talk and making ''friends''. Beyond friends, Aida is a harder target. She's rather timid, and sexually frustrated but she keeps it all bottled up and rarely lets people know of how long she has been without a lover. More often than not, she passes up opportunities for lovers because she feels ''rusty'' or as if she would not be able to focus on the actual act instead of who they are as they caress her.

Brief Bio: Aida was born and raised in Refugio, a simple girl. Her mother died giving birth, and her father fled afterward, thus leading to Aida living life in the care of foster parents. Thus when she turned twelve and began to develop her powers, she felt like the odd one out. Aida didn't know how to express what she was going through, so she never did. As she got older, she learned when to avoid people, when to not avoid people, and she never worried about falling into the hands of harmful folk. Instead, she tended to be too sheltered when she saw anything bad in anyone, and it tended to make her the outcast of everyone.

As she became an adult, she began to be a little more social, but at the moment she finds herself enjoying the solitude. That is, save for when she goes to the Adrenaline to remind herself that others like her exist.

Psyn Ability: Regress Pain: She has the unique ability to instantly give back the pain caused from something to the person who did it. For example, a kick to the gut will leave her out of breath but the one who kicked her will feel the pain. A broken arm will make her arm unusable but at the same time the one who did it will feel her pain for as long as the bone is broken. This power make her the best way to torture a person, but she will get tortured also. If she for example moves a broken arm, it may take a bit longer to heal but the person who caused it will feel the pain of her moving the part of the body. She can also for example torture more the part of the body and the person will feel her pain. It is a double edge sword, she can torture a person but at the same time she is screwed herself.

Personality: She is a girl that knows what she needs and wants. She is not afraid of telling a person she wants to have sex or go someplace they should not go. She is not afraid to fight for what she believes in, she is not afraid of doing anything for what she believes in and for protecting her friends. She likes to have fun and be silly but never at the expense of her friends and family.

Brief Bio:

She was born in the Refugio like so many others. She is one of the youngest Psyn that ran out of the hospital. She instantly went back to her parents wich protected her and moved out of the country, they changed her name and did their best to protect her. Once she reached the age of 18 she moved out of her parents house and back into Refugio to try and find a job and to find out exactly what happened and if there was others like her. Her powers bloomed early in her teens. Now she works in a adult store completely not knowing about the group of people like her uniting and fighting. She was trained in martial arts when she got out by her father and now she came back, to find out exactly who she was.

Temporal Suspension: Jim possesses a rather unique and unusual ability, one that makes up for its lack of flash with sheer tactical usefulness.  Though the name might make one think otherwise, this power does not allow him to freeze the world around him, nor can he halt another man in his tracks.  It is an ability based upon the manipulation of time, but nothing so showy as all that.  Jimmy's never been much of one for overly complicated technical jibberjabber, preferring to refer to his gift simply as Delay.

When a normal man punches someone--and I mean really hauling off and whacking them upside the head--the laws of physics generally come into play.  The weight of the arm, the impact of the fist, the pull of gravity; in the briefest of instants the receiver of the blow is going to be knocked aside, reeling backwards and stumbling for balance.  Furthermore, he'll feel the pain of that punch aching in his jaw and ringing about in his skull like a nest of ornery wasps.  But Jimmy is no ordinary man, and his punches are no ordinary punches.  If he so chooses, he can make the sum total of his attacks amount to absolutely nothing.  He'll land a solid blow on an opponent's torso, and the other guy won't so much as budge an inch.  To any onlooker it'd be like a common thug attacking Superman.  Jimmy can keep raining down on the other man as much as he likes, but it'll do absolutely nothing whatsoever.

That is, until he wants them to.  Once Delay has been disabled, every last one of those attacks will come right back again, simultaneously.  Every jab to the gut, every sock to the eye, every kick to the torso.  That poor sap is gonna find himself flung every which way as if the Invisible Man just decided to go to town on his ass, all that gravity and weight and momentum returning full force.  Suddenly a guy who was feeling pretty damn cocky has a few dozen punches worth of pain to deal with all at once, and chances are he ain't gonna be handling that all too well.

Jimmy is also capable of performing the same thing to himself, delaying the pain and force of the strikes, but largely chooses not to.  Understanding one's limits in a fight is important to him, and winning isn't so important that he'd risk the consequences of delaying a fatal blow.

Jimmy is exactly the sort of rough-and-tumble fella you expect to find out West, sporting a bit of a boxer's physique and the sort of nice even full-body tan a guy who enjoys the sun and his freedom is wont to have.  He's got an easy sort of smile and a kind face that lights up at every opportunity, like a dog that's always happy to see everyone it comes across.  Jim's no stranger to dust and dirt and oil, and in the middle of the day he's usually slick with all the spoils of laboring under the hood and underside of a junked car. 

Personality:
Friendly, personable, and deceptively simple would be the best way to describe him.  Jimmy always seems to try and find the best in people, even if they don't give him much cause to.  Terribly open-minded, there are very few types of people that he takes an active dislike of right off the bat.  He's exactly the sort of guy that will pick out the most unassuming person in a crowd and try to break into their little bubble, finding immense enjoyment in meeting new people and experiencing new things.  He'll try just about anything once, and if he likes it he won't hesitate to try it again and again.

Brief Bio:

Jimmy has no idea exactly what to make of himself, due largely in part to his mother Kelly failing to tell him anything about his origins.  Though he'd never describe her as such, she was nothing more than a frightened whore that cowered away from what she was and what she had experienced in that facility.  She worked out of Carson City for years, hiding in the very state that she felt they would be the least likeliest to search for her fellow Psyns, who Kelly assumed would spread out through the country.

She never quite settled down, but her pregnancy caused her to rely on a number of increasingly disgusting men for financial support.  As such, Jimmy didn't exactly have what anyone would call a typical childhood.  Kelly was never much of a mother, but even as young as he was he understood all the sacrifices she made just to keep him from devolving into something just as scummy, despite being as broken as she was.

Jim's powers only began appearing after her death, when he was 19 years old.  She left nothing behind but enough money to get by, a frustratingly cryptic message concerning her "special nature", and directions to the city of Refugio where work had apparently already been lined up for him.  Without anything left to him but the clothes on his back and money in his pocket, he followed her dying instructions to the letter.  He's been working as a mechanic ever since, fixing up cars by day and prowling around for whatever fun there is to be had by night.  There's no telling just what he's capable of when push comes to shove, but you can better believe he'll have a blast when that day comes around.

Psyn Ability: Endocrinesis, the ability to sense and manipulate biochemical processes in living things- similar to telepathy but he reads and messes with the body instead of the mind. Among the oldest and most experienced of the Psyns what he lacks in raw power he makes up for with fine control. Can "body sculpt" for example, meaning if given a period of time measured in terms of months where he has interaction with someone almost every day he can have an effect on the body of another person comparable to the best work of the world's finest plastic surgeons though it has to be within the capability of the subject's genes. More immediate is the ability to interact and encourage healing in himself and others down to the cellular level- giving himself in effect immunity to all diseases, healing capacity that's a little above peak human, healing speed a little above peak human, and the ability to temporarily grant this super-health state to others.
Most dramatically however is the ability to force others to feel emotional states if they are accompanied with heavy biochemistry. Maybe not suicidal depression- but things like fear, lust, love, depression, anger, et cetera are fair game. Rumor has it that he can go as far as to weaken or even shut down organs in opponents- some even go as far as to claim he has a literal death touch. These are unconfirmed.
Occupation: Multiple- including adult film producer/performer, Casino Investor, Club Owner/Investor including Adrenaline, and according to rumor mob boss and drug supplier for the rich and famous of Vegas.
Known or Not Known: No, and he likes to keep it that way- rumored to murder non-psyns who find out.
Appearance:

Personality: Jacob is a man whose always had an edge over everyone else and knows it. Not opposed to using his powers to get what he wants, he does however play them subtle and likes to keep it that way. Keeps his powers secret and demands others do the same. Devastatingly handsome from decades of "body sculpting" himself, he damn well knows it and is frankly infamous for his vice of womanizing. Interestingly, while he is fine with alcohol and drugs being bought and used by others he doesn't partake himself. Always keeps a calm and cool front to hide his ruthless and manipulative nature. Like he should be at the piano singing instead of in the back room making criminal deals. Above all, he sees himself as a sort of "Don" for the other Syns. He treats the others like they are all in a mafia and he's their boss, but in return the others get his protection like a proper mob boss should.

Brief Bio: Among the first Psyns, and most likely the oldest surviving Psyn, Jacob has had an interesting life indeed. His powers starting to manifest in his teenage years without his knowledge- all he knew at the time was that he was a late bloomer that the ladies seemed to absolutely love. The first real clue to his nature came in college when he actually made a mugger flee in terror on instinct. Spending a year refining his abilities, he hit Vegas by storm as a male adult performer, then after establishing roots started working into organized crime. Finding another Psyn he began taking them under his wing as an older brother figure- and using them in his own business deals both legal and not.

Coming back to his home town he brought a lot of his money and organization with him and he likes it that way. Now an undeniable influence on the community, he plays the legitimate businessman and protector of his community- the second much more true then the first. He's bleed for the Psyns, killed for them, made money for them and from them. Somewhere between a criminal and a savior for the other Psyns he has no idea the storm approaching- but when it does strike he's not going to like it one bit.



Name: Alina Sanchez

Age: 19

Gender: F

Psyn Ability: Teleportation. She can teleport herself away, instantly, in any direction, any time she wishes. This however requires a lot of energy from her, based on the distance of teleportation. If she goes a few feet, it's barely noticeable for her. However going the length of a room will be tiring, a street block away will force her to catch her breath from exhaustion, and anything greater than the length of a football field and she might pass out on arrival, with a risk she may die, the risk increasing the further away she ports herself.

Because of that ability, she learned to fight by exploiting it fully. She will stand toe to toe with an opponent, and try to avoid getting into a wrestling match. That way, she can easily port behind and surprise her opponent, or port to the side to avoid a hit.

Occupation: Bouncer at a local bar

Appearance:

Personality: Alina has a short temper. She tries to stay uninvolved into things that don't concern her, but if someone pisses her off, it's pretty easy to make her lose her temper.

Bio: Alina was born in Refugio. Her parents always thought that their strange powers made them different from normal humans, and as such tried to stick to themselves, avoiding most social contact. It rubbed off on Alina and made her weary of strangers, preferring to rely on herself, on her own strength. Because of this she's always been trying to stay fit and got the chance to practice fighting many times in school and on the street. She escaped and came here hoping to live a normal life, but found it was much more difficult than she expected. Because of her ability to hold her ground in a brawl, she got the position as a bouncer at a local bar, and Alina figured this was as close to a normal life she could get. She never experienced love or romance, probably because of her apprehensive personality.





Name: Chester Breckenridge Jr.
Age: 22
Gender: Male

Psyn Ability: Tactile Telekinesis (unknown maximum effect). Using the stress exerted by moving a heavier object, Chester is able to mentally assist the movement to perform feats of amazing strength. Though he cannot do anything like lift a building, he has learned how to make manual chores easier by simply adding more to his trip. Bales of hay moved in half the time and even helping his father lift the tractor high enough to help fix a minor problem, which left him in a semi-coma for a full day afterwards. He has found that using the power has gotten easier, but is still afraid to test the true extent of the power itself. At least for now, he needs to have contact with the object in question, and cannot move objects using his mind alone.

Occupation: Farm Hand on the Breckenridge Farm

Known or Not Known: Not known any anyone other than his parents. That will change.

Appearance: 6’4 220 pounds

Personality: Light-hearted and down to earth, Chester has always found time to enjoy a good beer, a good football game, and a damn good harvest! Though he tries not to show it, he bears the stress of helping to run the family farm while seeing his football dreams die before they could truly form. This has given the overall nice guy a darker angry streak

Brief Bio: Raised on the farm to Chester Senior and Martha Breckenridge was a life built on duty and sacrifice. It was hard work and luck that made them the only fully functioning farm in Refugio. They made it through the leans years by saving practically during the good years, but times have been tough, and the crop had taken a bad turn. Long time customers now had no ability to buy even the amount of produce that did make it through. The few cows they used were getting more and more expensive to maintain, and the bank was sniffing at their door.

Chester heard about Adrenaline the same way anyone in town hears about something of that nature. The bar. One day, a man drunk out of his mind was yammering about how he lost his shirt betting on the fights. He mentioned Adrenaline by name, and was ushered out of the bar soon afterward. The thought never left Chester’s mind, and soon after he was trying to gently question other locals about the club. The best hint he was dropped advised him to be at the bar at 7, and then follow the money. If there was money to be made in that place, Chester was looking to find out how.





Name: Ari Long
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Psyn   Ability: Empathy- Ari is a very capable empath, able to sense emotions clearly. On top of that, he is in tune with Psyns specifically, able to 'read' their powers, and glean their basic function. What makes Ari particularly dangerous, however, is his ability to manipulate emotions. While not instant or absolute, Ari is able to instill various emotions in others. The ability is much more potent if he can supplement it, such as describing something the target is afraid of, reminiscing about a target's depressing past, or giving the target a reason to celebrate. If the target succumbs to his ability, they may even hallucinate (eg. If Ari describes a spider to an arachnophobe, while attempting to instill fear, the person might feel a spider crawling or see one).

Occupation: Ari is a gambler, playing only games where his ability to sense emotions comes in handy. No one has a poker face with him around, and a casual conversation might instill doubt in a player who has a flush.
Known or Not Known: Definitely not, it would make Ari very bad at gambling.

Appearance:

Personality and Bio: Ari is a bit of a drifter, while he lives primarily in the area, he goes to various places, and likes to visit Vegas on occasion to bring in a great deal of extra cash. He has an apartment, and keeps his paper trail to a minimum, using cash when possible. A Psyn will identify him as one of their own   immediately, as his eye are a shade of (almost glowing) purple to those   with the gene.
 
Notably, Ari is considered a pretty boy, and has been known to toy with men who are attracted to his girlish looks. He has even induced lust or passion in men using his power and a little deception, which has earned him his share of 'complimentary' drinks (non-alcoholic, as he does not intend to learn what an altered mental state will do to his power), and other such gifts, especially from men in Vegas that have just come off a winning streak.

Ari, however, prefers females to males, and his feminine looks have come in handy in that aspect as well, at times.

Ari has recently come to enjoy watching fights at Adrenaline, and is not above using his powers to help a fighter 'throw a fight' so Ari can make a profit. Ari is a strategist, and prefers not to fight his own battles, so he does not participate in the fight club. He is not an incapable fighter, as he is rather graceful, but would easily lose in a fist fight. Given the dangerous nature of the town and the club, he carries a knife wherever he can, just in case. 'Just in case' is a phrase he uses often.




Name: Jack "The hammer" O'Bolger

Age: 29

Gender: Male

Psyn Ability: Telekinetic Field distortion, known to most of the ignorant as force fielding. Jack discovered at an early age that he had the abilities to literally shield himself from the outside world. He can manipulate the molecules around him forming hard as steel barriers that cannot be broken as long as he holds them up through concentration. On the downside the only way he has found to access this part of himself to use said ability is under extreme fatigue, hard blow to the head, or the more commonly used, be drunk. It has something to do with his state of mind, if he were to be of a complete conscious state he would not be able to focus on everything at once. In short the more he is beaten the stronger you make his mind, or he just downs a pint or two of whiskey before a fight. He can form these barriers around his fists as well if he so wishes to do when attacking. Since he only knows of this way to use this ability he often times can only cover one portion or part of the body at a time. Such as if he were to cover his fists, his body from the elbows back would be unguarded. Every advantage comes at a price.

Occupation: Tattoo artist.

Known or Not Known: Not known, lives his life as a regular human who seems to have a drinking problem

Appearance:

Personality: He comes off as a quiet man, with a fierce side to him. A more animal side than most of the fighters at the club. Mainly he stays in the background and does not participate, only smirking when the fighters show their powers and try and win the big prize. The only thing he could do with the money if he did fight would be buy more alcohol to keep himself happy. Obviously having a dark past from his service in the military he survived when no one else did by unexplained means, yet with his powers the extreme concussion that he took from an explosion activated his powers making him live when no one should have. Bent on the memories of his past he not only drinks to keep training his powers but also because of his own psychological problems.

Brief Bio: A child of the first psyn his parents died long ago and he could careless. In fact his powers were first discovered by him because of his father and mother beating him at every turn for his being a mistake. Never meant to be born and never meant to live he is a walking time bomb with the rage he had inside of himself.

The only thing he holds to be important in himself is his overly conscious need to protects others, the survivors guilt running at full strength through him, he feels the need to keep others safe at the expense of his own body and mind.




Name: Alice Banks

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Psyn Ability: Affectionately named 'Bog', Alice's ability allows her to slow the movement of objects with her mind. Upon concentration, anything and everything within her line of sight will have their speed reduced, with varying degrees of slow. Because her power requires an active concentration, trying to slow 10 people will have a lesser effect than concentrating on one. An object under the effects of Bog could have varying ranges of movement, from being almost frozen, to moving as if underwater, or even just feeling a little heavier- all depending on Alice's level of concentration at the time. Also, bigger objects require more focus to slow.

Occupation: Unemployed due to family circumstances

Appearance: Alice has the look and feel of a princess, or at the very least a heavily pampered and sheltered person. She looks like the type of person you would read about in a storybook, with her pretty looks and figure.
(Her bust size would be bigger- was hard to find a photo that I particularly liked).

Personality: Alice is the type of girl that lives and breathes the word cute. Whether by will or just natural behavior, she possesses an aura that makes people want to associate her with teddy bears and hello kitty lunchboxes. This, combined with her sheltered lifestyle, make her innocent and easily manipulated. She is extremely trusting, not having been exposed to some of the uglier human emotions; Jealousy, greed, selfishness.. all of those are like a foreign language to her. She would be content to spend the afternoon napping with her collection of stuffed animals, or lazing about in the garden. She has always been highly intelligent, and possesses an insatiable curiosity which has gotten her in trouble- more times than she would have liked.

Brief Bio: Alice was part of an extremely rich family- so wealthy that most people couldn't even fathom the amount of money they had at their disposal. Her father was the current CEO of the most successful and cutting edge technology company, uncreatively named Banks Tech. He had nearly nothing when he started the company, after he had escaped from the facility. Of course, that quickly changed- with the help of his Psyn ability Accelerated Probability, her father's company became a multibillion dollar corporation in what seemed like overnight. Her mother was an pretty and kind woman, though she was a completely normal person. She had been pregnant with Alice, a soon-to-be single mother, when Mr. Banks had stumbled into her life. He had nothing but the clothes on his back, and she couldn't help but take care of him. One thing led to another, and they became married- Alice took her father's last name, even though it doesn't exactly fit her race.

As a child, Alice had lived the most sheltered and protected lifestyle possible. Everything was prepared for her- the best schools, the best house.. anything she wanted was hers. Amazingly, she managed to remain relatively unspoiled. Her mother had the personality of a saint, raising her well. Alice's childhood was a strange mix of learning. School taught her academics. Her mother spent most of her time teaching her to be a good person, along with various womanly things like cooking and cleaning. Her father, being rather paranoid and protective, insisted on martial arts classes; especially after he had discovered her ability.

And so she lived her life like any other rich heir; learning, relaxing, and being pampered. That is, until her curiosity brought her to Adrenaline. Drinking, sex, partying, drugs.. all these new experiences to be had. Of course Alice couldn't resist- and soon she found herself getting in a little over her head. Even the cleanest sheet of paper  has to get dirty eventually.

Simply put, it's the ability to be in two places at once. She usually can manage keeping up a second copy of herself for long periods of time, as this ability is quite mastered.

Color me interested!  I think cooking up a character for this story could be quite fun.  I just have two questions to start things off with.  Firstly, what are the limitations on abilities?  Basically, I'm asking you what the highest threshold for power should be, and what sort of powers should be ruled out right from the get-go?  Secondly, how do you envision combat playing out between characters?  Do you have a system in mind, or should the results just be discussed beforehand between you and the two participants?

I don't mind elemental abilities, but stick to one. Then think of supreme psychic abilities. Precognition, or postcognition. Telepathy, OBE (which in a stronger form would basically be spirit traveling), etc. I'd even allow one person light shadow manipulation.

No hundreds of drones or total domination kind of stuff. Stronger strength shouldn't be heft a car over your head with one hand and still have enough strength and balance to run a marathon. Powers ruled out would be like, mind control. That's too powerful. And... hm... Flying, though I might not mind levitating abilities that allow someone a higher jump, or the ability to restrain their motions in mid-air to be more fluid, and to allow them to almost ''defy gravity'' at times. I hope that all makes sense.

For fighting sequences, I will predetermine a winner by characters involved and abilities, and the only rule is no auto-hitting. I can hope whoever signs up can be mature enough to handle a fight scene with some decency. No perfect fighters either. No one fights without taking a single hit.

Thinking about it, here's a character to mull over until then.

Name: Jacob Greene
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Psyn Ability: Endocrinesis, the ability to sense and manipulate biochemical processes in living things- similar to telepathy but he reads and messes with the body instead of the mind. Among the oldest and most experienced of the Psyns what he lacks in raw power he makes up for with fine control. Can "body sculpt" for example, meaning if given a period of time measured in terms of months where he has interaction with someone almost every day he can have an effect on the body of another person comparable to the best work of the world's finest plastic surgeons though it has to be within the capability of the subject's genes. More immediate is the ability to interact and encourage healing in himself and others down to the cellular level- giving himself in effect immunity to all diseases, healing capacity that's a little above peak human, healing speed a little above peak human, and the ability to temporarily grant this super-health state to others.
Most dramatically however is the ability to force others to feel emotional states if they are accompanied with heavy biochemistry. Maybe not suicidal depression- but things like fear, lust, love, depression, anger, et cetera are fair game. Rumor has it that he can go as far as to weaken or even shut down organs in opponents- some even go as far as to claim he has a literal death touch. These are unconfirmed.
Occupation: Multiple- including adult film producer/performer, Casino Investor, Club Owner/Investor including Adrenaline, and according to rumor mob boss and drug supplier for the rich and famous of Vegas.
Known or Not Known: No, and he likes to keep it that way- rumored to murder non-psyns who find out.
Appearance:

Personality: Jacob is a man whose always had an edge over everyone else and knows it. Not opposed to using his powers to get what he wants, he does however play them subtle and likes to keep it that way. Keeps his powers secret and demands others do the same. Devastatingly handsome from decades of "body sculpting" himself, he damn well knows it and is frankly infamous for his vice of womanizing. Interestingly, while he is fine with alcohol and drugs being bought and used by others he doesn't partake himself. Always keeps a calm and cool front to hide his ruthless and manipulative nature. Like he should be at the piano singing instead of in the back room making criminal deals. Above all, he sees himself as a sort of "Don" for the other Syns. He treats the others like they are all in a mafia and he's their boss, but in return the others get his protection like a proper mob boss should.

Brief Bio: Among the first Psyns, and most likely the oldest surviving Psyn, Jacob has had an interesting life indeed. His powers starting to manifest in his teenage years without his knowledge- all he knew at the time was that he was a late bloomer that the ladies seemed to absolutely love. The first real clue to his nature came in college when he actually made a mugger flee in terror on instinct. Spending a year refining his abilities, he hit Vegas by storm as a male adult performer, then after establishing roots started working into organized crime. Finding another Psyn he began taking them under his wing as an older brother figure- and using them in his own business deals both legal and not.

Coming back to his home town he brought a lot of his money and organization with him and he likes it that way. Now an undeniable influence on the community, he plays the legitimate businessman and protector of his community- the second much more true then the first. He's bleed for the Psyns, killed for them, made money for them and from them. Somewhere between a criminal and a savior for the other Psyns he has no idea the storm approaching- but when it does strike he's not going to like it one bit.

Temporal Suspension: Jim possesses a rather unique and unusual ability, one that makes up for its lack of flash with sheer tactical usefulness.  Though the name might make one think otherwise, this power does not allow him to freeze the world around him, nor can he halt another man in his tracks.  It is an ability based upon the manipulation of time, but nothing so showy as all that.  Jimmy's never been much of one for overly complicated technical jibberjabber, preferring to refer to his gift simply as Delay.

When a normal man punches someone--and I mean really hauling off and whacking them upside the head--the laws of physics generally come into play.  The weight of the arm, the impact of the fist, the pull of gravity; in the briefest of instants the receiver of the blow is going to be knocked aside, reeling backwards and stumbling for balance.  Furthermore, he'll feel the pain of that punch aching in his jaw and ringing about in his skull like a nest of ornery wasps.  But Jimmy is no ordinary man, and his punches are no ordinary punches.  If he so chooses, he can make the sum total of his attacks amount to absolutely nothing.  He'll land a solid blow on an opponent's torso, and the other guy won't so much as budge an inch.  To any onlooker it'd be like a common thug attacking Superman.  Jimmy can keep raining down on the other man as much as he likes, but it'll do absolutely nothing whatsoever.

That is, until he wants them to.  Once Delay has been disabled, every last one of those attacks will come right back again, simultaneously.  Every jab to the gut, every sock to the eye, every kick to the torso.  That poor sap is gonna find himself flung every which way as if the Invisible Man just decided to go to town on his ass, all that gravity and weight and momentum returning full force.  Suddenly a guy who was feeling pretty damn cocky has a few dozen punches worth of pain to deal with all at once, and chances are he ain't gonna be handling that all too well.

Jimmy is also capable of performing the same thing to himself, delaying the pain and force of the strikes, but largely chooses not to.  Understanding one's limits in a fight is important to him, and winning isn't so important that he'd risk the consequences of delaying a fatal blow.

Jimmy is exactly the sort of rough-and-tumble fella you expect to find out West, sporting a bit of a boxer's physique and the sort of nice even full-body tan a guy who enjoys the sun and his freedom is wont to have.  He's got an easy sort of smile and a kind face that lights up at every opportunity, like a dog that's always happy to see everyone it comes across.  Jim's no stranger to dust and dirt and oil, and in the middle of the day he's usually slick with all the spoils of laboring under the hood and underside of a junked car. 

Personality:
Friendly, personable, and deceptively simple would be the best way to describe him.  Jimmy always seems to try and find the best in people, even if they don't give him much cause to.  Terribly open-minded, there are very few types of people that he takes an active dislike of right off the bat.  He's exactly the sort of guy that will pick out the most unassuming person in a crowd and try to break into their little bubble, finding immense enjoyment in meeting new people and experiencing new things.  He'll try just about anything once, and if he likes it he won't hesitate to try it again and again.

Brief Bio:

Jimmy has no idea exactly what to make of himself, due largely in part to his mother Kelly failing to tell him anything about his origins.  Though he'd never describe her as such, she was nothing more than a frightened whore that cowered away from what she was and what she had experienced in that facility.  She worked out of Carson City for years, hiding in the very state that she felt they would be the least likeliest to search for her fellow Psyns, who Kelly assumed would spread out through the country.

She never quite settled down, but her pregnancy caused her to rely on a number of increasingly disgusting men for financial support.  As such, Jimmy didn't exactly have what anyone would call a typical childhood.  Kelly was never much of a mother, but even as young as he was he understood all the sacrifices she made just to keep him from devolving into something just as scummy, despite being as broken as she was.

Jim's powers only began appearing after her death, when he was 19 years old.  She left nothing behind but enough money to get by, a frustratingly cryptic message concerning her "special nature", and directions to the city of Refugio where work had apparently already been lined up for him.  Without anything left to him but the clothes on his back and money in his pocket, he followed her dying instructions to the letter.  He's been working as a mechanic ever since, fixing up cars by day and prowling around for whatever fun there is to be had by night.  There's no telling just what he's capable of when push comes to shove, but you can better believe he'll have a blast when that day comes around.

Psyn Ability: Extrasensory Perception of Character:
Aida has the ability to do something slightly similar to auric reading. Though with auras, people can determine moods, emotions, and the amount of darkness about someone. With her ability, Aida can let her eyes fall on someone and she can get a certain gut feeling about them. And her gut feelings about people are rarely ever- if ever at all- wrong. These feelings tell her the majority of things of a person, without ever giving her their names, pasts, futures, or anything in between. It is purely an emotional knowing of what kind of person they are. As well, instead of just seeing someone and reading them, she can even better tell of a person's true intentions or personality when they touch her. But a lot of times she refuses to get close enough to touch someone because of the overload of perception she gathers from such touches. Another side effect and very good plus of this power is that she can look and recognize her own; other Psyns. And even better, she can recognize Anti-Psyns, she just doesn't know what they are quite yet.

Personality: Aida is a rather quiet, peaceful individual. She rarely argues or fights with most people, but she does tend to find herself willing to stand up for herself and those who gain her affections or trust. Aida loves to enjoy her time with reading, sometimes playing video games, or watching movies. She's very solemn and to herself, and prefers things that way. But then when she finds someone she cares for, or someone who is a softer person when she reads them, she finds herself unable to resist them very easily. Softer personalities, and every now and then a stronger personality, can summon her need for small talk and making ''friends''. Beyond friends, Aida is a harder target. She's rather timid, and sexually frustrated but she keeps it all bottled up and rarely lets people know of how long she has been without a lover. More often than not, she passes up opportunities for lovers because she feels ''rusty'' or as if she would not be able to focus on the actual act instead of who they are as they caress her.

Brief Bio: Aida was born and raised in Refugio, a simple girl. Her mother died giving birth, and her father fled afterward, thus leading to Aida living life in the care of foster parents. Thus when she turned twelve and began to develop her powers, she felt like the odd one out. Aida didn't know how to express what she was going through, so she never did. As she got older, she learned when to avoid people, when to not avoid people, and she never worried about falling into the hands of harmful folk. Instead, she tended to be too sheltered when she saw anything bad in anyone, and it tended to make her the outcast of everyone.

As she became an adult, she began to be a little more social, but at the moment she finds herself enjoying the solitude. That is, save for when she goes to the Adrenaline to remind herself that others like her exist.

Psyn Ability: Regress Pain: She has the unique ability to instantly give back the pain caused from something to the person who did it. For example, a kick to the gut will leave her out of breath but the one who kicked her will feel the pain. A broken arm will make her arm unusable but at the same time the one who did it will feel her pain for as long as the bone is broken. This power make her the best way to torture a person, but she will get tortured also. If she for example moves a broken arm, it may take a bit longer to heal but the person who caused it will feel the pain of her moving the part of the body. She can also for example torture more the part of the body and the person will feel her pain. It is a double edge sword, she can torture a person but at the same time she is screwed herself.

Brief Bio:

She was born in the Refugio like so many others. She is one of the youngest Psyn that ran out of the hospital. She instantly went back to her parents wich protected her and moved out of the country, they changed her name and did their best to protect her. Once she reached the age of 18 she moved out of her parents house and back into Refugio to try and find a job and to find out exactly what happened and if there was others like her. Her powers bloomed early in her teens. Now she works in a adult store completely not knowing about the group of people like her uniting and fighting. She was trained in martial arts when she got out by her father and now she came back, to find out exactly who she was.

Psyn Ability: Teleportation. She can teleport herself away, instantly, in any direction, any time she wishes. This however requires a lot of energy from her, based on the distance of teleportation. If she goes a few feet, it's barely noticeable for her. However going the length of a room will be tiring, a street block away will force her to catch her breath from exhaustion, and anything greater than the length of a football field and she might pass out on arrival, with a risk she may die, the risk increasing the further away she ports herself.

Because of that ability, she learned to fight by exploiting it fully. She will stand toe to toe with an opponent, and try to avoid getting into a wrestling match. That way, she can easily port behind and surprise her opponent, or port to the side to avoid a hit.

Occupation: Bouncer at a local bar

Personality: Alina has a short temper. She tries to stay uninvolved into things that don't concern her, but if someone pisses her off, it's pretty easy to make her lose her temper.

Bio: Alina was born in Refugio. Her parents always thought that their strange powers made them different from normal humans, and as such tried to stick to themselves, avoiding most social contact. It rubbed off on Alina and made her weary of strangers, preferring to rely on herself, on her own strength. Because of this she's always been trying to stay fit and got the chance to practice fighting many times in school and on the street. She escaped and came here hoping to live a normal life, but found it was much more difficult than she expected. Because of her ability to hold her ground in a brawl, she got the position as a bouncer at a local bar, and Alina figured this was as close to a normal life she could get. She never experienced love or romance, probably because of her apprehensive personality.

Name: Chester Breckenridge Jr.
Age: 22
Gender: Male

Psyn Ability: Tactile Telekinesis (unknown maximum effect). Using the stress exerted by moving a heavier object, Chester is able to mentally assist the movement to perform feats of amazing strength. Though he cannot do anything like lift a building, he has learned how to make manual chores easier by simply adding more to his trip. Bales of hay moved in half the time and even helping his father lift the tractor high enough to help fix a minor problem, which left him in a semi-coma for a full day afterwards. He has found that using the power has gotten easier, but is still afraid to test the true extent of the power itself. At least for now, he needs to have contact with the object in question, and cannot move objects using his mind alone.

Occupation: Farm Hand on the Breckenridge Farm

Known or Not Known: Not known any anyone other than his parents. That will change.

Appearance: 6’4 220 pounds

Personality: Light-hearted and down to earth, Chester has always found time to enjoy a good beer, a good football game, and a damn good harvest! Though he tries not to show it, he bears the stress of helping to run the family farm while seeing his football dreams die before they could truly form. This has given the overall nice guy a darker angry streak

Brief Bio: Raised on the farm to Chester Senior and Martha Breckenridge was a life built on duty and sacrifice. It was hard work and luck that made them the only fully functioning farm in Refugio. They made it through the leans years by saving practically during the good years, but times have been tough, and the crop had taken a bad turn. Long time customers now had no ability to buy even the amount of produce that did make it through. The few cows they used were getting more and more expensive to maintain, and the bank was sniffing at their door.

Chester heard about Adrenaline the same way anyone in town hears about something of that nature. The bar. One day, a man drunk out of his mind was yammering about how he lost his shirt betting on the fights. He mentioned Adrenaline by name, and was ushered out of the bar soon afterward. The thought never left Chester’s mind, and soon after he was trying to gently question other locals about the club. The best hint he was dropped advised him to be at the bar at 7, and then follow the money. If there was money to be made in that place, Chester was looking to find out how.

Psyn   Ability: Empathy- Ari is a very capable empath, able to sense emotions clearly. On top of that, he is in tune with Psyns specifically, able to 'read' their powers, and glean their basic function. What makes Ari particularly dangerous, however, is his ability to manipulate emotions. While not instant or absolute, Ari is able to instill various emotions in others. The ability is much more potent if he can supplement it, such as describing something the target is afraid of, reminiscing about a target's depressing past, or giving the target a reason to celebrate. If the target succumbs to his ability, they may even hallucinate (eg. If Ari describes a spider to an arachnophobe, while attempting to instill fear, the person might feel a spider crawling or see one).

Occupation: Ari is a gambler, playing only games where his ability to sense emotions comes in handy. No one has a poker face with him around, and a casual conversation might instill doubt in a player who has a flush.
Known or Not Known: Definitely not, it would make Ari very bad at gambling.

Appearance:

Personality and Bio: Ari is a bit of a drifter, while he lives primarily in the area, he goes to various places, and likes to visit Vegas on occasion to bring in a great deal of extra cash. He has an apartment, and keeps his paper trail to a minimum, using cash when possible. A Psyn will identify him as one of their own   immediately, as his eye are a shade of (almost glowing) purple to those   with the gene.
 
Notably, Ari is considered a pretty boy, and has been known to toy with men who are attracted to his girlish looks. He has even induced lust or passion in men using his power and a little deception, which has earned him his share of 'complimentary' drinks (non-alcoholic, as he does not intend to learn what an altered mental state will do to his power), and other such gifts, especially from men in Vegas that have just come off a winning streak.

Ari, however, prefers females to males, and his feminine looks have come in handy in that aspect as well, at times.

Ari has recently come to enjoy watching fights at Adrenaline, and is not above using his powers to help a fighter 'throw a fight' so Ari can make a profit. Ari is a strategist, and prefers not to fight his own battles, so he does not participate in the fight club. He is not an incapable fighter, as he is rather graceful, but would easily lose in a fist fight. Given the dangerous nature of the town and the club, he carries a knife wherever he can, just in case. 'Just in case' is a phrase he uses often.

Speaking of which Writersblockade, I think I've heard of another (read: technical) term for your character's ability.  From the advancing Evolution Wikia.

One with this ability, however, could only lift or manipulate objects or oneself to a certain magnitude, based on the level of his/her telekinesis, which would have to develop over time.

For your character this seems to be limited to the "Strength" category, rather than the whole shebang of flight and speed.  This ability is one possessed by Superman, which I believe was added to explain why he can hold up heavy objects (like airplanes or buildings) without simply tearing off chunks or ripping them apart like the laws of physics and gravity would normally dictate.  Chester's is simply on a far more manageable scale.

Psyn Ability: Telekinetic Field distortion, known to most of the ignorant as force fielding. Jack discovered at an early age that he had the abilities to literally shield himself from the outside world. He can manipulate the molecules around him forming hard as steel barriers that cannot be broken as long as he holds them up through concentration. On the downside the only way he has found to access this part of himself to use said ability is under extreme fatigue, hard blow to the head, or the more commonly used, be drunk. It has something to do with his state of mind, if he were to be of a complete conscious state he would not be able to focus on everything at once. In short the more he is beaten the stronger you make his mind, or he just downs a pint or two of whiskey before a fight. He can form these barriers around his fists as well if he so wishes to do when attacking. Since he only knows of this way to use this ability he often times can only cover one portion or part of the body at a time. Such as if he were to cover his fists, his body from the elbows back would be unguarded. Every advantage comes at a price.

Known or Not Known: Not known, lives his life as a regular human who seems to have a drinking problem

Appearance:

Personality: He comes off as a quiet man, with a fierce side to him. A more animal side than most of the fighters at the club. Mainly he stays in the background and does not participate, only smirking when the fighters show their powers and try and win the big prize. The only thing he could do with the money if he did fight would be buy more alcohol to keep himself happy. Obviously having a dark past from his service in the military he survived when no one else did by unexplained means, yet with his powers the extreme concussion that he took from an explosion activated his powers making him live when no one should have. Bent on the memories of his past he not only drinks to keep training his powers but also because of his own psychological problems.

Brief Bio: A child of the first psyn his parents died long ago and he could careless. In fact his powers were first discovered by him because of his father and mother beating him at every turn for his being a mistake. Never meant to be born and never meant to live he is a walking time bomb with the rage he had inside of himself.

The only thing he holds to be important in himself is his overly conscious need to protects others, the survivors guilt running at full strength through him, he feels the need to keep others safe at the expense of his own body and mind.

Okay. So first off, is all accepted. I'm going to go over the characters once more, so though I say that, I might throw out a critique or two (or not). And then I'll open this up soon enough.

Gender: Female

Psyn Ability: Affectionately named 'Bog', Alice's ability allows her to slow the movement of objects with her mind. Upon concentration, anything and everything within her line of sight will have their speed reduced, with varying degrees of slow. Because her power requires an active concentration, trying to slow 10 people will have a lesser effect than concentrating on one. An object under the effects of Bog could have varying ranges of movement, from being almost frozen, to moving as if underwater, or even just feeling a little heavier- all depending on Alice's level of concentration at the time. Also, bigger objects require more focus to slow.

Occupation: Unemployed due to family circumstances

Appearance: Alice has the look and feel of a princess, or at the very least a heavily pampered and sheltered person. She looks like the type of person you would read about in a storybook, with her pretty looks and figure.
(Her bust size would be bigger- was hard to find a photo that I particularly liked).

Personality: Alice is the type of girl that lives and breathes the word cute. Whether by will or just natural behavior, she possesses an aura that makes people want to associate her with teddy bears and hello kitty lunchboxes. This, combined with her sheltered lifestyle, make her innocent and easily manipulated. She is extremely trusting, not having been exposed to some of the uglier human emotions; Jealousy, greed, selfishness.. all of those are like a foreign language to her. She would be content to spend the afternoon napping with her collection of stuffed animals, or lazing about in the garden. She has always been highly intelligent, and possesses an insatiable curiosity which has gotten her in trouble- more times than she would have liked.

Brief Bio: Alice was part of an extremely rich family- so wealthy that most people couldn't even fathom the amount of money they had at their disposal. Her father was the current CEO of the most successful and cutting edge technology company, uncreatively named Banks Tech. He had nearly nothing when he started the company, after he had escaped from the facility. Of course, that quickly changed- with the help of his Psyn ability Accelerated Probability, her father's company became a multibillion dollar corporation in what seemed like overnight. Her mother was an pretty and kind woman, though she was a completely normal person. She had been pregnant with Alice, a soon-to-be single mother, when Mr. Banks had stumbled into her life. He had nothing but the clothes on his back, and she couldn't help but take care of him. One thing led to another, and they became married- Alice took her father's last name, even though it doesn't exactly fit her race.

As a child, Alice had lived the most sheltered and protected lifestyle possible. Everything was prepared for her- the best schools, the best house.. anything she wanted was hers. Amazingly, she managed to remain relatively unspoiled. Her mother had the personality of a saint, raising her well. Alice's childhood was a strange mix of learning. School taught her academics. Her mother spent most of her time teaching her to be a good person, along with various womanly things like cooking and cleaning. Her father, being rather paranoid and protective, insisted on martial arts classes; especially after he had discovered her ability.

And so she lived her life like any other rich heir; learning, relaxing, and being pampered. That is, until her curiosity brought her to Adrenaline. Drinking, sex, partying, drugs.. all these new experiences to be had. Of course Alice couldn't resist- and soon she found herself getting in a little over her head. Even the cleanest sheet of paper  has to get dirty eventually.
