Depends what you need it for. Email and occasional web surfing will require somewhat different specs than a bleeding edge gaming rig :)

When I acquired this one I was playing Age of Empires, Empire Earth etc and was told this had the best video card setup at the time.

I am familiar with setup on this one but previous was Windows 98.

In the last few years I have cut back gaming, only playing FaceBook games.

I would imagine they don't require much more than a browser, so pretty low end specs. If you're renting something new now, they're likely to be Vista or Windows 7 only. Vista, I believe, is a bit of a memory hog, so keep an eye on the machines ram. I'm not really familiar with machine rentals though.

Facebook requires just flash, java which are browser based.

No this is 5 years old the rental is.

Reasons why I am asking is because Thursday night my time, I started computer, disconnected the less than impressive dial up connection and watched in horror/disbelief that computer shut self down and restarted.

Came up with an error of a stackdump in service pack 2, can't upgrade to service pack 3.

I have a self build tower pc which I cherry picked the bits I wanted, however, if you're looking at a laptop, I would get an Acer Aspire as a good all rounder and from what I've heard is pretty reliable. That's what I'm looking to get when I have the funds. (That'll be a while) They are fairly pricey, but worth it.

Although, if your current machine is a rental, get the firm you're renting it off to sort it.
