The Princess and the Pauper

Background
A second economic crash in as many years had left a death toll of nearly a million, and while some of the wealthy had reached out to the poor, to save as many lives as they could, many simply pulled back and sat on their wealth.  Further and further the government was forced to take upon the responsibility of the underprivileged, until a definite split in society had occurred.  The taxes required to pay for these once emergency services obliterated the middle class.

It is decades later, and the poor live in what could best be described as a communist state, of which, while their needs are provided for, their freedoms are all but lost. While the rich, those of whom through insight and previous successes continue to enjoy the benefit of a capitalist society where the government is now visibly controlled by the interests of corporations.

While loss of life is still considered dire, occupations that closely follow the tones or blatant slavery are all but ignored.

The Scenario

When her father retired, he created a board of trustees of to control his company, and each seat was to be filled by each of his five children, most of which were equally money and power hungry and looked down upon the close relationship of which the youngest of them had with a commoner class.

One of the stipulations of becoming a trustees was that each of them, be allowed time to explore other avenues for no less then one year before deciding upon setting themselves a seat on the board of their corporation. While  her older siblings had all but pissed away this opportunity until they became nineteen, she had spent it with her closet friend, a commoner of families livelihoods was owned by a small but kind family business that provided the people within their authority with low paying factory work.

This was all about to end though, as a large corporation was within the final steps of absorbing the business and the towns beneath its control.  A far more seedier enterprise of which provided the legalized version of sex slaves, and other forms of human entertainment of which bordered often on the illegal to a hungry consumer base of prosperous individuals and out of country parties.

Desperate, unable to make worker acquisitions, or convince any of her current trustee member siblings to help; the heiress decides in secret to switch places with her friend until she reaches nineteen, as any resulting attempts at putting her into contracted work would, as far as she understood be met with crushing lawsuits from her one of the largest corporations in the world.

Plot

While the heiress acts out of compassion, her friend has more to worry about then her own welfare and through careful negotiations been allowed to keep the entire funds from a slavery sale - of which would mean the ability to bring her siblings and entire family out of the control of the corporation.

What happens to the heiress? Thus is the basis of the One on One play!
