6-6-06, weird....
« on: June 06, 2006, 09:46:04 AM »
Am I the only person staying in the house today or do some of you guys put it off as superstition? probly is... but still its kinda freaky. I have a question, how did the numbers 666 get to be the symbols of the devil? Ive never figured it out why people fear those 3 lil numbers so bad.

I thought it had something to do with the bible, who knows I might be mistaken. However I am going to go see that movie the omen today, I am not supersititious though.

It's because some people associate 666 with the "end of the world."

I've heard a theory that says the number of the beast is actually the name of Nero, somehow you should be able to get his name from 666, or so I'm told. I guess it makes sense, his lions didn't need to go hungry, after all.
Why did you hide out in your house? I can tell you the Satan bash was way more kicking than any Christian party I've ever been to. :)

I've heard similar stuff to what Swedish says, and that it also has to do with numerology that people were practicing long before Christianity existed. At any rate, in my agnostic mind, it is 6/6/2006, and I haven't given it much thought.  This is kind of amusing though:

Yeah, I agree, this date isn't more hellish than my own birthdate, in my eyes. It was a good excuse for a kicking party, though. :)

Quote here.  For the interested. ^_^

"For  St.  John  did  not  give  a  number  that  could  be worked  out  in  Greek,  which  is  what  a  Roman  official  scanning Revelation   for   subversive   content   would   expect.   The   unex- pected  element  in  the  computation  was  that  it  had  to  be  worked out in  Hebrew,  a  language  that  at  least  some  members  of  the churches  would  know.  His  readers  would  have  guessed  by  now that  he  was  speaking  of  Nero,  and  those  who  understood Hebrew  probably  grasped  it  instantly.  The  numerical  values  of the Hebrew letters in  Neron  Kesar (Nero Caesar) are:

As  I  mentioned  earlier,  the  point  is  not  that  Nero’s  name  is the  primary  identification  of  666.  The  point  is,  instead,  what  the number   meant   to   the   churches.   St.   John’s   Biblically   informed readers  will  have  already  recognized  many  clear  indications  of the   Beast’s   identity   as   Rome   (indeed,   they   already   knew   this from  reading  the  Book  of  Daniel).  Now  Nero  has  arrived  on  the scene  as  the  first  great  persecutor  of  the  Church,  the  embodi- ment  of  the  “666-ness”  of  the  Empire,  and  –  Lo  and  behold!  – his  very  name  spells  out   666.37"

We've, The Table, have been waiting for this for a long time. Just to see what was going to happen. I would have say The Omen today but the Best-Friends won't come with. The "06" thing is definately a worthy mention, maybe 6-6-6 was the start of...or maybe the birthday of...I don't know. Just another Y2K scare.

Yea gods, it wasn't 666, but 6/6/06. Or if you want to get more specific, 06/06/06 or 06/06/2006. And that's in the Gregorian calander only. Not in the other calander systems used by other nationnalities or cultures. The year 666 passed a very long time ago and it's a long time until 2666, so just relax.

Uh, yeah, since it is the tenth now, I think everyone is pretty relaxed, thank you. Don't think anyone was that worried to begin with, we are all pretty sensible people here.

Beyond Hunter's post above, 6 is important in that it reflects the idea of imperfection in Hebrew myth.  666 - three flaws.

Nero had a few, I think.  Maybe not quite three...

Well we could all view this in a majority of ways. You have the skeptics saying it 6/6/06 and trying to disprove it etc.

But what if its the only halfway point.

Everyone thought the world was gonna end with Y2K it didn't but maybe we were just off with the y2k prediction, and it was only the begining of the decent into hell. Look what has happened so far, 9/11, Katrina, the Tsunami in Asia, the bird flew, the war on terrorism, the bombings in london, the riots in paris, one can go on. yes things have been happening that are bad for years but these atrocities are getting worse.

Now there is the famed death date. Dec 21 2012, and 6/6/06 happens to be around the halfway mark to this date starting in 2000. This date is the famed Mayan Death date and it is also found in the skeptical Bible "codes" which are evry interesting. The Bible codes however say there is a possibiltiy for this date to happen and then theres a possibilty for this to be overcome.

Just my two cents....
