Core rules, page 111. 'Cloud' is one of the subtypes of Area. And I have no objection to complexity; I want
to push the system and understand what it can do better, so that I can come to grasp the system as a whole faster.
And there's not a specific effect I'm going for, so much as an aesthetic of the battle aura. Like with Raoh in Hokuto no Ken, as mentioned, where just being in his presence can be enough to kick someone's ass without his lifting a finger, or Yamamoto in Bleach, who can bring people to their knees just by standing there. This is a purely spiritual technique derived from immense focus, training, and force of will rather than any sort of volley of blows. It's an offensive ability, rather than any sort of buff.
Though perhaps a standard action area effect could work, with a standard action to maintain. It could be like...
Strike 2 (Mighty, Area: Cloud, Progression: Area x2, Subtle). Assuming 18 strength, that'd be 2+6+2+1=11 points for a 25' diameter cloud centered around my martial artist for a single round, so anyone trying to rush her would be buffeted by her battle aura, which seems perfect. For the aesthetic, she'd be standing there calmly meditating, seemingly doing nothing, the enemies would charge her, and then her invisible battle aura would hit them as they rushed in. Perhaps I could toss in Alternate Save to take the area from a reflex save to a will save.
Pair that with some homing punches and a forcefield and the battle aura should be covered in its entirety.
