Elvi, I think subversive condemnation is a bit much. He enjoys what he's doing, so I think it'd be best to leave him be, non? This place is about finding a writing niche you enjoy, and when he feels explorative, i'm sure he'll branch out.

I noticed that mostly you're talking about research inside what is effectively a lab, but what about outside in the world in some way? Lab testing vs field testing instead. Try a little twist to the idea, put it on a spaceship perhaps or in a near-future world where there's enough automation and robotics around that a super-computer AI could be running the tests by controlling al these things (even elevators and cleaning & maintenance robots). The test subjects could have tiny nanotech and microchips and an implanted erotic stimulant drug-releasing device, as well as some kind of mind-control conditioning...these things would allow the research to proceed with the interaction of other people being around (making the test-subject more embarrassed by what's happening as well). There's probably lots of ways of doing this for the same effect.

A supposedly normal mental hospital known around the country for it's fine work in psychiatry, it has a dark secret that it's managed to keep from the world for some time. Down in the basement of this beautiful hospital, patients are subjected to torturous experiments in sexuality.
Some are kept in isolation for months, only to be released to a room of women to ravage. Some are kept in the company of others at all times and not allowed to touch them. Some are strapped to electrodes and made to watch porn, receiving a shock every time they become stimulated. Some are given special drugs that increases their appetites then denied all satisfaction. Some are brought near orgasm again and again only to be left alone at the last moment, struggling to be released. Some are kept in an almost constant state of orgasm, to the point of exhaustion.
