Misheard Lyrics
« on: July 17, 2009, 08:31:15 PM »
We've all heard them...or even sung them ourselves.  For example, when I was a little girl, I would listen to Bad Moon on the Rise, by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Original Lyrics: There's a bad moon on the rise...

Misheard as: There's a bathroom on the right...

lets hear yours now...

Blinded By The Light by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. It's almost like a classically misheard song.

Original lyrics: Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

Misheard lyrics: wrapped up like a douche, another Roman in the night

(plus it's nonsense, so easily misheard)

This one compliments of my little brother...

From the song Ticket to Ride, by the Beatles

Original Lyrics: She's got a ticket to ride. She's got a ticket to ri-i-ide.  She's got a ticket to ride, and she don't care.

Misheard Lyrics: She's got a chicken to ride.  She's got a chicken to ri-i-ide. She's got a chicken to ride, its in my hair!

I always hear "hold me close and tie me down sir" instead of "hold me closer tiny dancer" by Elton John. Im sure I have more. I have the worst ear for lyrics.

*laughs* I hear it wrong too.

Original lyrics: Hold me close, my tiny dancer

Misheard lyrics: Hold me close, I'm tired of dancing.

This one may just be me, but everytime I hear it, I can't help but giggle.

"The Other Side" by The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Original Lyric:  Take it on the other side

Misheard Lyric:  Take it in the other side

That one letter sure changes a lot.  When I first heard it, I thought he was talking about something ENTIRELY different.

Actually, the term 'deuce' refers to a 'deuce coupe' - a type of hot car at the time, so it's not exactly nonsense.

Although I was hearing the first part of your version for the longest time.

Mine is another famous one:

Real lyrics:  'Scuse me, while I kiss the sky.
Heard as:  'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy.

(Jimi Hendrix, song of the same name.)

Pardon the language but when I was a kid a friend of mine told me the Clash song Rock the Casbah was f--k the cashbox. And yes... I used to sing that for a long time until learning otherwise.

Lady Gaga: Poker face.

Puh-puh-puh-poker face puh-puh-poker face....

The second repeat of this line sounds like the metaphor she makes it out to be whenever I hear the song.

Oh good lord, I'm horrible with these..

For a long time, I thought the Red Hot Chili Peppers' song "Roller Coaster of Love" was "Rolling Toaster of Love".

I made the same "wrapped up like a douche" mistake as y'all.

And there was an old Judas Priest (whose lead singer was gay) song called Living After Midnight. For years, I thought one lyric said

"I set my sights on nine whole men; the joint starts flying when I begin"

Turns out it was "I set my sights and then home in". Oops!

My two favorites come from my siblings.  My baby sister:

From Lucille, by Kenny Rogers
Original Lyrics: You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille. With four hungry children and a crop in the field...
Misheard Lyrics: You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille. With four hundred children and a crock in the till...

((I think I'd be leaving right along with Lucille))

Original Lyrics: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves. We will come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Misheard Lyrics: Bringing in the sheets. Bringing in the sheets. We will go to Joyce's bringing in the sheets.

Israelite, by Desmond Decker. There's a whole raft of potential misunderstandings in that one.

RL: Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir
BL: Get up in the morning, baked beans for breakfast

RL: Poooor meeee, the Israelite
BL: Whooaaa, me ears are alight

Some one recorded that as a song Dirty Deeds Done With Sheep  .
I don't know the artist but it was a crazy song

My friend used to sing the song You're My Home by Bill Joel The lyrics was Home could be The Pensilvana turnpike
Misheard or miss sung Home can be your pants around your drain pipe.  Billy couldn't have written better

Beck - Loser

I know the chorus goes "I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me." But I still think he's singing "I'm a lizard baby, so why don't you kill me." Sounds like lizard to me.
