Putting out a call for a few ladies (or players of ladies) who apreciate the long tease of a game--not so difrent from a normal adventure story--where the leaders of the evil forces pursue you for, as Gilbert and Sulivan would say, "matrimonial purposes."

I could run the story with the people i already have, and do in fact still have three rolls open for charecters who are not signed up for the 'long, non-con tease'.  I also have 4 openings for those who are, and was wondering if any one would enjoy the rolls?

In 1170, Emperor Totori III and his imediate family where assasinated, whiping out the last of his blood line.  Celestial forces interceded to stop a new series of clan wars, sending a dragon to coil around the imperial pallace and declaring that he would allow none to enter the throne room save the winner of the invitational tournament to be held in 1174.  'Til then, he would watch every person of samurai blood in all of Rokugan, seeing every great deed.  The 777 who did the greatest deeds would be invited to participate in a tournament, and to the winner would go the mandate of heaven to take the throne.

Miya Rumiko, most beautiful maiden of the Miya family, daughter of the most beautful Dragon family Samurai-ko of her generation, put aside her courtier's finery to don her mother's armor and katana.  She left the court with three rivals, two human supporters, a Nezumi, and a Naga.  They devoted themselves for the next four years to earning their way to the tournament by rooting out the taint of Jinkugo that was rotting it's way into the heart of Rokugan.  May songs be sung of their deeds when their bones have splintered to ash.

In 1174 Rumiko bested two rivals, Miyazawa of the Crane Clan and Akito of the Lion Clan, and her third, Tatsuya of the Spider Clan, fought her with all he had, proved the better, but rather than draw her blood in victory surendered with the words, "Curious.  Four years, I've fought to best you in this moment.  Now I know my true ambition is nothing more than to spend the rest of my life the way I have these past four years."

In the last fight, Rumiko faced a samurai whom she knew to be tainted by Jingoku and poised to bring an army of oni into the capitol.  Seeing on his belt the red gold flute that could unleash a hundred demons on the city with a single trill, she foresook her ambitions and cut him down in the tournament.  In the shocked hush that followed, she offered the tainted object to the dragon, informed him of it's use, and then offered her sipoku for the crime of violating the strictures of the tourment.

The dragon smiled, "And so, as all you have done in pursuit of your ambitions has been an act of purification, so are you too in this moment washed clean of your ambitions.  For your crime, I take from you the name of the person you once were, and impose upon you the geas of heaven with your new name, and with it the mandate of heeaven.  Rise, Empress Jade, and purify the land that you rule."

Her eyes have been the collor of Jade ever since.

*   *   *

That was six months ago.

Rokugan now scrambles to recover from the chaos that lead up to the tournament as the Empress works to solidify her position and excercise her mandate.  Though the Crab Clan are among her fiercest supporters, they must as always devote the vast majority of their forces to the Wall that keeps the Shadowlands from spreading it's taint across the world.

Across the mountains from the wall, in crab lands proper, word has spread that two provinces have faced peasent uprisings so extensive that the only possible response was slaughter.

Letters go out now, to dirctly to current veteran emerald magistraits, but also the Daimyo of the clans ordering specific samurai by name drafted into the Emerald Magistraits to travel to the city of Kyuden Kitsune in Mantis lands where they will recieve their instructions from the monk Guseppi.

Hi Muse

Would this be an L5R system game or freeform?

Offline kckolbe

He is running system, and thus far there are some really interesting characters.

Hi Muse

Would this be an L5R system game or freeform?

*bows*  how do you do, Haibane?

This is a system game, but i'm trying to be acomadating to people who have problems with systems.

Offline Loquacia

I haven't played since first edition, and of course I'd be playing cross-gender if you're only looking for female players, but if that's acceptable I'd be interested.

Offline TheWriter

I'd only wrapped up an L5R campaign not too long ago, but while it's the sort of thing I eat up, I'm still not too au-fait with the mythos.  I'm definitely interested in playing one of your teasees.

So clearly we need to roll all these PMs into one big one.  ^_^

Offline Haibane

Oh, I'm sorry, I don't play system games, only freeform. It strikes me that the L5R universe is so good that you can easily use it as a general background to a freeform story.

My main gripe with forum-based system games is they are much too slow, so even if I had a character who didn't interface with the system wouldn't help, since its the system itself which slows things down.

Mostly system games aren't too bad. The biggest problem is when you hit fights, since that's where most of the dice get rolled.

Offline Haibane

Yep! Thats what I was saying. In the places where no system is in use they zoom along just fine - as fast as the players wish to post, but the fight scenes drag on far too long for my taste and this kills the flow of the game.

If anyone were to do a game using the L5R setting but without any system I'd be very interested.

Unfortunately there's not a whole lot you can do about that, short of maybe having the GM do all the dice rolling in a combat round and post up the results.

Still interested, I understand you seek a Togashi. If we're using the system for roleplay I'll need to know which edition.

Offline kckolbe

3rd Edition Revised.  Currently taking a Togashi bright star, Unicorn bright star, any Nezumi, or a Togashi tattooed monk.

Togashi?

Is that short hand for Togashi Tatoed Monk or the Bright Star of Togashi's Blood?

Offline kckolbe

Edited to clear that up a bit.

Offline TheWriter

PMed character to Muse.

Offline Loquacia

Has character creation changed a lot from edition to edition? I don't have a copy of 3rd ed. to roll a character from. I was thinking of the Togashi bright star, though the detachment of a monk would also suit me well. If one spot is claimed I could take the other.

Offline kckolbe

You could be a Togashi bright star who is also a monk.  The two are not exclusive, unless the lore has changed.

True enough. The real question is: Daisho or Irezumi? I think a samurai-ko with some lovely but non-magical skinwork might fit the bill.

If you mean between 2nd and 3rd, yeah, a bit. If you don't have a copy of the rules, the best idea would be to give the GM a detailed overview of how you'd envision the character, and work something up chatting over IM maybe.
