Help a Writer Out.

Catherynne M. Valente is a writer; among other things, her most recently published novel, Palimpsest has been met with much critical and fan acclaim. But... the economy has hit her and her husband hard. He lost his job, and they were comfortable in their savings, certain that he'd have something new inside a month.

It's been six.

They're trying to figure out how to actually pay their rent next month, let alone buy food, so she's undertaking a new project. In Palimpsest, a Young Adult book was referenced, and many fans have asked if it really exists. Until now, it has not. But to support herself, Ms. Valente has begun writing The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making. Every Monday, she's posting a chapter on her site, free to read. If you think it's worthy and if you have it handy, there is a donation button to pay as much or as little as you see fit.

The first chapter went up today, and I am GOBSMACKED at how good it is, and waiting eagerly for the next one. The money that I got from my own publication a few weeks ago, which I was going to use as fun-money for fibers, I'm going to be shooting her way, because her work just puts mine right in the shade.
