Ya know what I've noticed about Reach? It's not Halo 3.5 o.o It's like they made the game entirely from the ground up... there's no recycled character models, animations, effects, it's all new, and it only just clicked today. Theres no reason for them to do that, they could have just carried over all of Halo 3's assets and added some new graphical details but no, they went all out and scrapped everything, made everything new. The end result is just stunning!
The Elite's look beefy and imposing, (As they should!) the Sniper Jackal's slink about like light footed little panther's, (as they should!) any gun bigger then a standard rifle is doesn't just look scary, the damage is insane, (as it should be!) I've lost count of the amount of times I tried to storm, say, a turret position only to have a torrent of plasma shred through me and take me off my feet, and go "Gee, that looked a lot more intense then I remember..."
I remember I tried this crossing a bridge with concrete cover, where Grunts and a few Elites duked with Marines and a turret at the end would just chew apart anything human that got too close. Arrived to the scene in a Warthog with a missile launcher on the back, and immediately tried to ram through, jamming the car between the cinderblocks and immediately getting stuck at the bonnet. I hopped out before it blew, and was dead as I hit the ground from a hail of turret fire.
Skidded the car at the back of the bridge, got out and tried to fight through, with the Marine on the gun blanketing the area with explosives. Cinderblocks were giving them just as much cover from the rockets as I was getting from the turret, so there was really no improvement, and once a kamikaze Grunt blasted my shields off, an Elite hopped out of cover, squared his shoulders, roared at me and punched me clear off the bridge.
Skidded the Warthog on a small rise at the canyons edge, next to the bridge. Got out, engaged the Covenant on the bridge, and suddenly an unending storm of missiles slammed right into them, bypassing the cover all together and scattering them, while me and my Marines stormed. The two pronged attack made quick work of them. The Grunt in the turret even tried to run but was sent flipping before he clambered out when it was blown to pieces.
This. Is. Awesome.
